The announce of Resident Evil 6 stole the spotlight yesterday afternoon during Capcom's big 15th anniversary event in Japan, and the company delivered even more info on the game than the surprisingly lengthy trailer could offer. It turns out that Leon will be joined by a brand new, highly alliterative security worker named Helena Harper, while Chris Redfield's partner remains unknown.
In non-human characters, the snarling beast seen in the trailer repeatedly (and above) is named "Javo," and is said to have an "even greater impact than the zombies." He gives us a Nemesis vibe, which is to say, "He looks and sounds terrifying," even though his name makes him sound like a barista. The third main protagonist also hasn't been named, and has only been referred to thus far as "the man who's told to save the world." From what we gleaned in the trailer, he'll only do so for a price.
According to Andriasang's report of the Japanese event where the title was announced, Capcom also went into detail on Resident Evil Chronicles HD, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Resident Evil Revelations, and spoke about upcoming merchandise based on the series. Also, there are, like, a lot of Resident Evil games in production right now, in case that wasn't clear.

A) Is the Gold Edition fundamentally different from the regular one, (i.e. Batman Arkham Asylum and B:AA GOTY have different achievements, saves don't carry over) or is it the same game as 5 with the DLC included?
B) What platform?
I ask because I really want to go through it again after replaying 4 back in Sept.

@bargaingamer If you're on PS3, add me. I'll help you on your playthrough. I've beaten the game twice and I could make it easier for you. The names same as screen name.

Here's hoping for single player instead of co-op.

Yeah, more like here's hoping the single player doesn't force you to work with frustrating AI partners and inventory swapping, and that the co-op adds a new dimension of gameplay to the campaign. THAT would be very nice indeed. :-)

@fadeoutagain2784 A thousand times agreed; that was the biggest thing that killed RE5 for me. Co-op was fine and worked well despite taking a lot of the RE "fright factor" out of the equation, but having to deal with Sheva's AI was just outright annoying.

considering there they are showing partners for each character I'm starting to pick up a co-op vibe... which I would still prefer over escort missions... nothing like having a NPC that's only purpose is to die.

Resident Evil started to go downhill with RE3 in terms of sales... and even though Code Veronica was well recieved... RE4 was a runaway success so Capcom is just going with the formula that will sell the most games. I personally enjoy both the old and new style RE games and I'm just glad they're finally fixing the clunky controls and adding some more mobility to the characters.

i may be one of the only people who likes RE but never finished 4, so i can't speak on that. all i know is that the chainsaw guy in the beginning of the game scared the hooly bejesus out of me. as far as the story goes, i did notice a change from straight up zombies (like you see in the earlier games) to these weird mutated monster things that look like something out of the anime / manga Akira.
the story in RE5 is ridiculous. it has something to do with the super-villain Wesker wanting to start up the 4th Reich and have the master Arian race rule the galaxy under a mutated fist of rage...and something about complete global saturation. all i know is that it wasn't scary at all. even the chainsaw guys were weaksauce. it was a good looking game, though.

Chris' partner is Beards Nevence from the manga. They'll probably change his name since this is a fan translation.
Here is a page from the manga.

@alpha defekt My guess would be its either Hunk or Alex Wesker. Both Wesker children.

Ah, for a brief moment I read that as "the man who sold the world." Now I'm convinced that David Bowie is an obvious choice for an RE protagonist.

The animations were amazing in RE4 but that was a long time ago. I mean they've already changed the series to an action game, ditch the clunky controls and stiff character movement and start fresh.
Not being a hater, played them all, love them, will still play this.

Ball is in your court Capcom. Make this a Wii U launch or close-to-launch title and i'll buy it day-1. You have the opportunity to make what could be described as the best-looking console game to date by pushing the Wii U hardware, and with console lauches being low on games anyway the sales would be awesome. Put in the same Wii controls as RE4 but also introduce a tablet control option :). Insta-buy for me.

the Wii IS kids stuff, though. i thought this generation had all but confirmed that. sometimes i go to the store thinking that maybe this will be the day i decide to invest in a Wii, but then i take a look at the games section and see way too much shovelware...way, way too much. quality game to shit game ratio must be something like 1:50. it doesn't help that most of the "core" games (No More Heroes, HOTD, Dead Space Extraction) on the Wii have been ported to the PS3 with better graphics. still, i do want to play the Mario & Zelda games someday...

Ive been a hardcore gamer for 26 years and this gen it was an easy choice. Gaming PC/Wii. I get almost every single game the HD consoles get, with better graphics, running smoothly and actually running in 1080p, while i get the Wii and all its excellent A+ games. Yes they're outnumbered 50:1, but using that as an argument just means your too lazy too look for the good games. I have 28 Wii games and 35 downloaded titles, and only Wii Sports and the Guitar Hero games would even be remotely considered casual. Xenoblade is pretty much the best game on the console, Monster Hunter Tri is amazing, both Zeldas are great, and even remakes like RE4 and both Pikmin games are dramatically improved both graphically and control-wise. The core audience shunning this amazing console is a tragedy.
