It looks like Twisted Metal may include a PSN Pass after all, despite the hopes of director David Jaffe. According to The Gamers Hub, QA lead Justin Trease responded with a succinct "yes" during CES when asked about the inclusion of a pass. No other details as to what the pass will entail were mentioned, though typically the online pass model is used to restrict online content -- multiplayer, etc. -- to those who purchase new copies of a given title.
We've contacted Sony for confirmation. The publisher has more or less stated that all of its titles going forward will implement PSN Pass.
[Thanks, Cian.]

Fine by me. I'll just buy it when they go on sale at Gamefly and get it with the code at a used price.

I hear you man. It's hard for me to justify a $60 purchase for a twisted metal game. I totally want it, but I think I want it for $24, and no pass. Old twisted metals were amazing, and it only had local co-op. I think I'd rather keep it that way

I think you can buy the Online Pass for $10, so really online pass just screws people who buy it new (if they have plans to trade it in) Because if you pre-order the game, then find out it sucks day 1, it's worth 10 bucks less..
In other words, you pay 65 dollars for a 55 dollar game with a trade in value of 15 to 25 dollars.
But hey, Sony exclusives will make 10 dollars eh?

@Dayvido Not to mention you can use a keyboard on your Playstation so you can type in the code easily unlike the Xbox. Although you can redeem a code for Xbox via Xbox.com, I'd rather just do it through the console and get it done with.
Nonetheless, this game has been preordered since last year, I'm looking forward to it, Twisted Metal Black being included was just icing on the cake.

Umm what? You've always been able to plug in a USB keyboard to type with on a 360. Not to mention the chat pad addon that plugs into the headset slot of a controller.

I think Sony can fix this by making a new re-auth system that uses the original code from the game and generates another code for use with the game that you've lent to your friend; kinda like a virtual credit card. Thing is, your pass would be rendered inactive as long as your friend's code is active. In order to reactivate your pass, he would have to enter his generated pass code to deactivate it. If you were to generate another pass for him, it wouldn't be the same as the first.
How does something like that sound? I'll put it in lesser words: A system that lets you generate another psn pass for a temporary use at the price of temporary deactivation of yours. You don't have the game, your friends does.

what the hell is the point of that? Why would they need to temporarily disable the original owner's copy? THE DISK IS REQUIRED TO PLAY is it not? The other person already can't play if he loaned it out to a friend. This isn't like PC where people can install the game files, get a no-cd fix or a virtual cd, then hand the disk over for someone else to do the same and never need the disk to run the game again.
They don't care about you or your friends, they care about making profit off of used game sales and complicating what used to be a simple put in the disk and play console experience and the more people accept it the worse it's going to get.

Read carefully. I didn't say the owners copy of the game, I talked about the owners online pass. This process is loaning to pass to the person you've loaned the disk to. Need more detail? Read my doc on it: http://pastebin.com/SpUFAZZa

I think they want you to buy games used. They reduce their costs by creating less discs, since it is a given that a significant number of purchases will be used copies, anyway. So really, they get $15 without adding an extra person to the serverload. It's FREE MONEY!
Does it suck that Jaffe and his company don't get a cut from sale of used games? Totally! But really they are sticking it to US, and so are the brick and mortars. When this game gets returned by someone a week or two after it's bought (why, idk, but it will happen at least once). It's used price will be $55. 2-3 months later it'll drop to $35, just like virtually every game. But when you pay that price you only buy half the game. The online passes cost is not reflected in the used price.
I don't like it, and the only way to fight it is to not buy the game at all. So I won't.
Poor developers! Eff them, they are just a money hungry as anyone else. You defend them like they care about you, but they don't. They care about your wallet and that's it. So choosing how to spend your money is the only way you can make a difference. If you ask me, you are all a bunch suckers for buying into it all.

I guess us family gamer's will be forced to make a 'Family' account to share for online games, I am not going to line pockets of these greedy bastards for screwing us over, just because I can. It's only going to get worse, because people these day's have no self control.
The real issue here is that most families have more than 1 console in their home, compared to previous generations who had just one. Game Stop is an excuse, video gaming through piracy, used sales, rentals ect have grown to what it is today.
I've never had as much games, as I have now for Ps3, most systems I had a handful of games, most I got used, traded or rented, same goes for my friends.
So really, lack of sales a problem, or missing out screwing games for the sake of greed a problem?

Most multiplayer focused games have problems during launch, but will it be plagued by tons of glitches? Doubt it.
Only reason it will flop is probably cause I dont think car combat games are as big as they were - I know my interest in em is no longer there.

The next COD will probably be the biggest selling game of 2012 on the PS3 and since the past few CODs have each been breaking the record for best selling console game of all time, this will probably happen with the next COD too.
So basically, you're saying Twisted Metal will be the best selling console game of all time.
I think you are way off.
It probably won't even be top 30 or top 40 of best selling 2012 PS3 games.

@drunkingamebar Explain to me how it will bite me in the ass? I've been a fan of Twisted Metal since I was a kid. And when it came time for me to chose between a 360 or a PS3, this is how it went down. I could've chose the 360 because it was cheaper, but I thought about the future. "What if they made a new Twisted Metal? This is my favorite series and I would kill myself (not literally) if I were to miss out on it simply because I took the cheaper route."
The PSN pass is really not that big of a deal. To those complaining about "How are my kids suppose to play if it has a pass?" It's not a kids game! My parents were strict while I was growing up, and there were two things they were really strong on: explicit cds and M rated games. Back then I thought they were just being mean, but now I get it. That stuff isn't for children. Young minds can't really process the information, and if they do it isn't processed right.
So tell me which part will bite me in the ass? Buying the new entry to my favorite franchise? Or the PSN pass which doesn't matter because I have it pre-ordered anyway? Just sit down

Try being a fan, and having principles for starters. As a kid you never loaned friends games, or traded games? Hell I was an adult at work trading games with coworkers. Let me guess now that you're all grown up, f*ck every one else huh? Gotta love gamer's attitudes these days, thanks, for not caring, and ruining gaming for the future, I bet you support SOPA too. You buy into this sh*t hook line, and sinker! Google MW3 profit, and tell me that the gaming industry isn't screwing people over, thanks to morons like you who support them doing so just because you can.

@drunkingamebar Don't try and act like you know me douche bag. Yea I loaned games when I was little. Never traded any though. And no it's not "f*ck everybody else". I don't loan games anymore because all my friends took the cheaper route and got a 360. And no I don't support SOPA. 1) Why would I? 2) What the hell does that have to do with anything? And why would I Google anything on MW3? I don't play CoD. And it's pretty obvious they milk that franchise/rip the fans off. Because they sell a half assed games and put out 5 DLC's at like $15 a pop, so I don't need to Google what I already know. But in case you didn't know, David Jaffe is one of the most real and honest game creators in the business. You don't see him putting out a game every year. You see him releasing a game when he gets the inspiration to release a game. TM was never suppose to be a successful franchise. Many game company's looked down on him when he came up with the idea, and they wanted him to create a pizza delivery game. He basically said "f*ck you" released it anyway and look where that got him. You're trying to make this PSN pass more than what it needs to be. You automatically get one when you purchase the game. And it's not like you're spending $100 to purchase one if you buy it used or borrow it. Plus you don't HAVE to buy it right when it comes out. You can wait for it to drop to $20 and you'll still get the pass. Reply all you want after this but I'm not responding. You're one of those people who will never be satisfied with anything.

@drunkingamebar And I wasn't even planning on replying to you again. But Jaffe released a Vlog today and one thing he discussed was the online pass. And his response was that he didn't even want to do it with this game because he wanted to try and build the franchise's fanbase back up. But since Sony was funding the project he couldn't really make a call on the decision. So stop trying to make every game developer out to be some mean, terrible person who's just trying to rip you off and take all your money. And if that's really what you feel then quit gaming and take up a new hobby.

@drunkingamebar The whole reason this online pass crap was implemented in the first place is for security purposes. It's "kids these days" that are letting each other borrow their purchased merchandise and burn, copy, hack, etc... licensed products. You've made your bed, now sleep in it. As long as it comes with pass with every new purchase, doesn't bother me a bit. I'm not ok with paying 65 of my hard earned dollars while some asshole gets it for free.
