It's not really a followup to the Neo Geo Pocket, but it is a portable device with a bunch of Neo Geo games on it. Currently known only as "Neo Geo Portable Device" (not the product's final name), the handheld is a bit bigger than an iPhone and comes packing two gigs of storage, plenty of buttons, a 4.3 inch screen, SD card slot, headphone jack and an A/V out jack, according to Japanese site Famicom Plaza.
And, thanks to official SNK licensing, it comes pre-loaded with 20 Neo Geo titles -- North American versions, no less -- including classics like Metal Slug, Fatal Fury Special, Sengoku, King of the Monsters, Magician Lord and more. Famicom Plaza provided no details as to when or where the device will be released.
That's assuming the product is real at all, of course. The select button above is labeled "menu" in a different picture, for example, which seems a bit odd. We've contacted SNK to confirm the device's existence.

I used to own a NGP color and it was just awesome. Loved my gamboy but the dpad/stick was just amazing on that thing. Sonic Pocket adventure and Match of the millenium where fantastic games.
This thing looks pretty cool. Now if only I could make calls from it....

it feels off that a 2D gaming company would not include a D-pad...

SNK already sell games on the PSP do they not?
Posted: Jan 25th 2012 3:46PM kenjetsu said
@VampireEater Yes neo geo games are on psp but have you ever wonder why thoes same games are 8 bucks a POP on Wii and cheeper on the other consoles. Because the Wii has a more accurate versions of thoes games. So it would be better playing them on an offical neo geo product.

Aren't there already like ten different versions of SNK collections out there over various gaming platforms? Not sure why we'd need dedicated hardware.

I would love that! Even if they only re-release old SNK games. I mean these still rock. Just worried how you would actually get these games onto the device. I see an SD slot and a mini USB port, but I assume these are for obligatory media player functionality..?

If true, this is like coming late to an early 90s party in 2010. That hair, acid wash tight jeans and awesome tude' isn't going to work out very well.
Sure, people will look at you, talk to you for the novelty but many couldn't help but think you'd be cooler if you came to the party on time in the first place...

Reminds me of the Dingoo and Wiz "consoles."
Posted: Jan 25th 2012 5:01PM Churrotastic said
@Xiegfried Same for me. I saw this and thought "Huh, looks like a Dingoo with a joystick." I already have one, and the latest model, the a380, emulates Neo Geo games pretty well (as well as other old gen consoles and handhelds) and it's only like a little over $100. The only catch is you gotta order it from China if you buy it from the official site, but even then...not a big deal.

Also why is Joystiq trying to contact SNK when their sister site engadget already confermed that it was a real product.

Make it cheap with digital distribution and I'm sold. :O

Look at the engadget pictures of the device. If it was photo shopped would they go through all the trouble to put air bubbles in the plastic that you peel off the matchine when you buy it.
