Activision working on update for Modern Warfare 3 DLC profile restriction

Yesterday, Call of Duty Elite users learned the new MW3 DLC was locked to a single profile, despite the terms allowing multiple users on the same console. Activision is aware of the issue and will correct it, according to a statement sent to Joystiq by Infinity Ward spokesperson Robert Bowling.

"We understand that ELITE Premium Members on Xbox Live who purchased the latest DLC Content Drop for Modern Warfare 3 are unable to access that content while signed into other profiles on the same console that originally downloaded the content," Bowling said. "This is unintentional and we will work to get an update out as soon as possible that corrects this issue and allows you to continue to enjoy the new maps." Until then, when your kids want to play Modern Warfare 3, remind them that it's rated M for Mature.

I agree. I think they're trying to see how far they can push before people resist. Given the complaints so far, this is their best PR strategy at this point: "admit to a mistake" and say they're working on a patch.

Its actually MW1.

I don't recognize that map. Is it one of the DLC maps, or is it one of those ones with the stupid restriction of not being in FFA? As FFA is all I play I may not have seen it.

@covertpetersen That is one of the new maps, called Liberation.

Luckily I'm not insane enough(yet) to buy a £35 subscription on top of a £45 game, so this doesn't really apply to me.

Of course it was some sort of glitch. When Xbox owners went to download it, it told them right on the screen that it could be used on all accounts on that system.

Or maybe the glitch was that it said that and it was actually supposed to be on one account but then they changed their minds because of all the tears?

Other than a $10 savings what do you really get with that Elite subscription? A 6 week head start on finding all the bitchin camping spots? The ability to make stupid videos for YouTube and facebook? I'll just buy the maps as they're released. Old school style.

What 10 dollar savings? You realize that elite is above and beyond the cost of the game. You get all dlc "for free" and earlier as well as other perks like recording and some better stat tracking I think. Really its the dlc that makes it worthwhile.

More then $10 savings I would think.. didn't blackops have $75 of DLC?

I wonder if they'll just give up with CoD Elite once the next CoD comes out. It seems like it's been riddled with problems since before it ever came out.

But of course, by then they'll probably have most of the problems ironed out and it'll just be another thing to milk the customers with. Meh, I don't care either way.

Wouldn't be surprising if we found out they did that on purpose just to see what would happen. Lack of complaints means the "problem" doesn't need fixing, but now that it's gathered attention...

I am surprised this us an issue in the first place, I mean how many over 18's share a ps3????

It works just fine for me and my wife. we both have a elite account set up on the xbox. mine is the paid account and hers is free. weve been playing on the new maps since the day they came out.
