Future Publishing US eliminated 19 jobs today as part of overall changes taking place at the company. None of its brands, which include Nintendo Power, PlayStation: The Official Magazine, OXM and @Gamer, will be discontinued.
"Future US is currently working to reposition itself in the marketplace to transform the company from an old school publisher to a hybrid publisher," Future COO Rachelle Considine told Joystiq. "While many 'old school' publishing companies and outlets have folded completely, Future US is in process of retooling and reshaping the organization to succeed, and thrive in the digital era."
Future announced late last year that it was merging its US and UK operation, following the resignations of its CEO and CFO.

@Hoffer
It's very sad. I would like to think they had no idea this was coming when they hired him and uprooted his life. He was really psyched for that job and he just got married too. It seems to contradict their strategy that they would let a video editor/producer go when they're going digital. Hopefully, he'll find something soon.

Many publishers with hands in print are laying off some of its force while hiring new people with more of a concentrated digital/online skills set. It's happening with a lot of newspapers, and it sounds like what may be happening here as well.

It would help if US magazines didn't suck.
I gladly pay $200 a year for UK subs but US magazines are barely worth the paper they are printed on. You're lucky if you can buy a Future magazine that's over 100 pages and 50% of that is advertising.
The rest of the magazines are usually filler with links saying "for the full review and more photos visit our Web site."

Maybe if they stopped making 85% of the damned magazines nothing but advertisements then maybe more people will buy. I've seen lots of magazines go on sale lately for almost 80% of thier original price because they think people aren't buying because it's expensive.
Is it me, or corporate bigheads are really stupid?
Do they look at their magazines and legitimately think people want more ads?

Stand sales and subscriptions just aren't enough to even cover the expense of publishing their mags all over the country. If they didn't have that many ads (and getting people to even buy the ad space is getting more and more challenging) they couldn't stay in business.
Don't know anything about the euro mags though. Are they selling any better? Logistically, I guess shipping is easier because it's so much smaller.
