I didn't have time for a mediocre shooter when games like Gears 3 and Uncharted 3 were keeping me busy. Insomniac is better than that.

@ItsameMatt03 well said, shame on people for downvoting him, the guy is speaking the truth, i never really cared about the resistance games, they were boring and mediocre and just another call of duty war clone that really didn't bring anything to the table good riddance i say.

@ItsameMatt03 thats the thing...its not medicore at all....if you would actually play through the whole game you will fit it right in with Gears and Uncharted. If you are just thinking about Multiplayer then you are looking at games the wrong way. Single Player is what a video game is about. not just MP. when you have a chance play the game...and you will say "yea wtf why didnt people buy this??" trust me.

@(Unverified) Actually, Resistance was around long before COD got big. And the first RFoM was incredible. There has not been an online shooter quite like that since.

Kids these days. They think COD started everything.

You are telling the truth. I tried all the R games and I gave up half way into all of them. Unless they magically improve in those later halves I can see why the series is being shelved.

Insomniac is better than R.

Do we need to play the first two to enjoy the single player aspect of the 3rd? Also, is it markedly different than the first 2? I got bored with each of the first 2 pretty quickly and didn't make it that far, but I've heard much better things about the 3rd one and want to give it a shot.

Here's the thing guys: Resistance 3 DID take a huge leap. To everyone saying "The first two were bad, so unless this one is miraculously different and better..." you are exactly RIGHT. It was a huge improvement over R2. It had some of the most fun to use weapons I've ever used in a FPS, and the campaign was actually very well done. They managed to fit a very touching story into the game, and that combined with the awesome weapons, and the beautiful art direction, made this game the best FPS of 2011, in my opinion.

tl;dr: this game is way better than the other two. go pick it up for cheap right now.

i've always liked the Resistance series, strictly due to the fact that it has a cool and unique story. in my opinion, if Sony should scrap support for any FPS, it should be Killzone. there's a game that even mind blowing graphics cannot help lift out of the gutter. of course this is my opinion, and some people may find the dudebro ramblings of Rico to be deep on some level. i cannot help but feel like Resistance should have been given more support all along, and Killzone left on the wayside. why was Sony trying to push two FPS exclusives at the same time, again?

@ItsameMatt03 Sad you got down-voted. It's true. Saying R3 is the best in the series isn't really saying much since the series is mediocre at best.

And before someone says anything about CoD, no I don't even play CoD

I played the first couple of hours of Fall of Man when I first got my PS3 and it was nothing special to me, and I am a pretty big FPS fan. The reviews on R3's single player were all average. Also, I mostly play FPSs for the single player campaign. The only one I really play a lot of multi on is Halo. On a side note, I don't like the dualshock for FPSs. The sticks' alignment and the concave triggers are less than ideal for the genre.

What @unagi meant was that the success of the CoD franchise as it is known and expected nowadays didn't become such until CoD4/ Modern Warfare. While there had been 2 CoD's by the time the PS3 launched, and they had sold well, they were not attempts to copy mechanics from the series so blatantly like we have seen since then.

Even R1 launched just days after CoD 3, so it can't be said that the Resistance franchise was copying CoD.

You do realize that CoD3 was actually like the 6th call of duty don't you?

I'm not saying it copied it or ripped it off. the only similarity is that they are both shooters.

I'm just saying that CoD has been pretty big since the very first one that was like 8 or 9 years ago wasn't it?

I'm just gonna chime in here. I played the first Resistance when I got my PS3 in 2007, I loved it, but of course, it was a launch title. It obviously doesn't hold up to nowadays standards. I played Resistance 2 when it came out, I quit after about a half hour in. The controls just didn't really sit well with me. I didn't have super high hopes for Resistance 3, it pulled me in within the first 5 minutes. It's seriously that good. The controls, the atmosphere, the art direction, the story, the weapons, everything.

I kind of agree with what Liquidfingers said, Killzone should go before Resistance. (Obviously it's not gonna happen with the amount of sales Killzone gets). I loved Killzone 2. But Killzone 3 was the exact same game, just a little more Call of Duty-ized. Personally, I wouldn't want to see either one die off. But I would prefer Resistance over Killzone for sure.

Comparing a first person shooter with a third person shooter is the same as comparing a racing game and a role playing game?

No surprise at all. The series basically got a free pass from being a launch title and being bundled later. However it didn't capitalise on it at all. The second game sold just over half what the first game managed. While the third game is looking like it will sell even less than the second.

They had a chance to get the hooks into players and draw them into the franchise but they missed it.

Ah but here's the problem, its not the game itself that was the problem, but the setting of it.

Look at it from an industry perspective. All the popular/successful FPS games are modern (to some extent) and realistic.

Sci-Fi shooters aren't that popular, except for Halo but that has had a cult following for over a decade now. There are some exceptions like Gears of War but its a TOUGH sell to get people really hooked on Sci-Fi shooters.

Such a shame, if Insomniac can't do it, no one else would.

@8bitartist There's plenty of fat chicks to have sex with, doesn't mean I want them. The exclusives Sony and Nintendo have don't appeal to everyone and in Sony's case the proof is in the sales. I have heard tools talk about their exclusives for years(before release) and they don't pan out to be like previous titles on PS2 so they flop.

Ahhhh no RFOM was the best,

Everything after it was abysmal, Honestly I dont think Insomniac had any love for the franchise at all.

It was always, just get it done type attitude, rushing into, And I get that vibe from developer diaries (And they normally make things sound better than they actually are)

Now who should take over it............
And please make it a survival horror,
They almost had a good story, it was told fairly well but zero atmosphere.

wow... i always forever respected Insomniac since they developed Spyro which were a great part of my childhood but now....

seriously if you start something you should finish it and Resistance 3's ending was by no means in hell a closure to the series. It was a high note in terms of it's gameplay, but on the story? uhm no.

Here's hoping Retribution comes out okay, and another developer comes and finishes what they started.

This is for the best. While the first game was great and offered a unique setting the second and third game weren't great in my opinion, especially 2. They still nailed the awesome weapons but the story and experiences were subpar. Two was boring and felt incomplete and three had broken scripting.

I dont know, i can see its a decent FPS series though.

Call me a hater if you want, but Resistance just wasn't a good franchise. It had a lot of potential with its concept, but the gameplay mechanics were highly dated. It didn't keep up with the current generation of shooters in almost any way.

Plus when the Playstation 3 has a superb FPS title like Killzone 2 (IMO, the best console-exclusive FPS of this generation), you're not going to settle for a merely decent FPS like Resistance.

I, for one, played the first Risistance.I believed it was poo; mediocre, just like others say.

Not to mention, there's really no point in bringing up childishness when people are downranking and attempting to disprove opinion..
