For the most part I liked Resistance Fall of Man and Resistance 2. They weren't great, but the one thing they had over most shooters was the weapons. They gave me a Perfect Dark vibe, with every weapon having a secondary mode.

They were certainly flawed, I feel the story of the second kinda retconed what was put out in the first, unless there were "Project Abraham" hints in the first game.

I'm not a fan of generalizations, but everyone here who says Resistance wasn't a good franchise did not play Resistance 3. One of the best FPSes of 2011 -- in my personal opinion, the very best, and a wonderful alternative to the insulting single-player crap from MW3, BF3, Homefront and every other hand-holdy piece of crap where having to think for yourself while playing is discouraged.

@Ayepecks I kinda pointed out the irony all by myself though, didn't I? Like when someone says, "I hate vegetables, BUT you gotta try this fried carrot!" The whole reason I said I don't like generalizations is because I was acknowledging, in advance, a fallacy in my argument. Obviously some who played R3 wouldn't like it. But most who bag on Resistance in general very clearly did not play it.

Now you two hug it out. DO IIIIIT.

@Ayepecks It's anecdotal, based on the number of people who talk about R3 like it's R2-2 and not a radically different step in the right direction. But ok -- let me go make a pie chart supporting my argument. (Probably not gonna do that.)

Bad news if you ask me. Resistance 3's co op was amazing. I really thought they stepped their game up. The ending however was terrible and cut short. I will now associate resistance with that half assed ending. SHAME.

Let me preface by stating I've never played this series, so what I'm saying is going off of what I hear or see on the internet.

There are way too many shooters out there to continue to span sequels to a mediocre franchise. The first two weren't that great? Why expect a huge increase in sales for a third one when we already have a lot of well established shooters.

Online shooters have become an investment for gamers. We only have so much time and money to play these, why invest more money and time in a different game when you'll get a similar result (ie online deathmatch, ranking up and prestiging a la gears and cod, even halo to some extent) from the 3-4 that you already have.

Who really wants to invest in 3 - 5 shooters, trying to rank them up to level 100 or the max level, when it takes the majority of players months to rank up to said level.

From personal experience, I have two shooters I play, Gears 3 and Halo, and I haven't touched Halo since Anniversary came out. But those two games satisfy my desire for online deathmatch/shooters. Granted, I rent shooters from Gamefly - COD, Battlefield; but I don't want to invest a lot of time increasing rank.

Could it be a sign of the first person shooter genre bubble popping?

@2Slick No it just mean you're not a game connoisseur, there is no way I could ever limit myself to just 2 games or hell even to FPSes, especially not Halo and Gears.

If what you care about is ranking up then again that points out that you are not a connoisseur, that's not a bad thing but a real lover of games plays them for their stories not rankings. You don't hear fill critics claim they only watch one or two types of films, why? They would get laughed at since there they would have no frame of reference as to what is out there.

No, I mean to fill my online shooter/fps desire.

I play plenty of other games. Skyrim, WWE12, Batman Arkham City, Saints Row, NBA 2K12, Assassins Creed are my recent favorite games I've played (or are still playing if we're talking about Skyrim, NBA, and WWE)

About the only genre's I really don't play much of are fighting and racing games.

Mashing HALO, C.O.D.2 and others does not make the game stand out. It wasn't hot. On top of that, as an exclusive, it was not Hot.
As I own all three consoles, I can voice what I think. You think by Bashing HALO I'm gonna lose Sleep? HAHAHAHAHA!! Like you're upset about my comments?? HAHA!! Don't agree with my comment, then fade it away, But check this:

As someone who thought R1 was merely okay, and R2 a pile of #*^$, R3 was truly a GREAT game.

That said, I'm not saddened the franchise is over. Insomniac can move on to bigger and better things.

I enjoyed Resistance 1 initially, it being a PS3 launch game helped my enjoyment of it since I had nothing else to play, being an FPS fan.

Resistance 2 was great. A lot of fun, especially the coop mode and boss battles.

Resistance 3, I hated. The new health system sucked and I sometimes had to much health packs, or not enough. Weapons were recycled and felt old at this point. Bosses were less interesting and boring/weird to play at times. I had to force myself through the game, the other previous two I enjoyed passing, this, I felt I was being punished.

Either way, a new Resistance game will come out at one point. If Sony is planning to make another full Syphon Filter, then Resistance is definitely not dead.

Resistance 3 was easily my least favorite in the series but still a good game. i just wish we had more of a better ending make things more dramatic i think they could have changed a few things for the ending of the game, but Resistance 1 was by far my favorite of the bunch and tho alot of heat and hatred got thrown at it i liked the 2nd game as well.

I think Insomniac should do ( or get another company to do ) release Resistance PSP title into HD so i can comfortable play it on my PS3 ( i can't really get use to the controls of that game on PSP )

R3 had a horrible multiplayer. The co-op was nothing more than playing the campaign w/ someone else. Then, they add a cheap survival that had to be paid for.

I guess I will be in the minority. The first Resistance (FoM) was a decent FPS game. I like the narrative which helped in the story dev. My understanding was that the game was rushed so the narrative replaced cut scenes due to time. But it still worked. It was a good mix of World War 2 meets Alien like creatures. Better than the zombie nazi's all the time.... well a little.

R2 had some good elements. Tension and combat but for me it fell off at the end and the end was melodramatic for me.

Not played R3. Will do when I can afford to binge on games again. Assassins Creed series has me bogged down.

Overall, what I have played is a decent enough. Enjoyable. Comparing it to Gears of War series is bad. I played Gears with friends off and on and found it bland and repetitive to my taste. Boring story. Point is, to each their own. Having a variety is what matters, so all of us Gamers have something to play. :) And yes, I am a Halo fan but stopped because the focus in most FPS games now is Multiplayer at the sarcrifice of a decent story. Come on Half Life 3... WE'RE WAITING.

Sorry to see Insomniac drop it but it would seem they game it a try with Sony and Sony had more success with KZ. Good they have parted ways and hopefully excel with their new project.

This is sad.R3 finally found the footing for the series and it ended a great experience. With R3 Insomniac tried to "Uncharted" the series (storytelling- wise) to great effect. It even has a terrific train scene somewhat reminiscent of U2.

The story is terrific (we get characters more fleshed out this time around), and the twist and turns make it the most interesting narrative of all of the PS3 games.

The gameplay remains, of course, just as smooth as always, but with enhancement and addition to the weaponry it is better than ever. The graphics, thanks to an enhanced art style this time around, are better than ever to top it off.

While is sad that the original developer of the series is no longer going to work on it, this is a Sony property which any other studio can pick up (as they have already with Retribution and Falling Skies). Sony's studios have certainly proven they can take a franchise from a different developer and keep it running just as well, if not better. If an when Sony decides to make another Resistance game there will be one.

As much as I loved R3, I think it's a good idea to try something new. Maybe put out one last R&C game for a while and have both teams come up with a crazy PS4 launch title or something.

New is better. Don't trap yourselves in to doing sequels forever.

It's too bad, all three Resistance games were really good in their own way. R3 was a really good game, it should've gotten more recognition, even if just for the story which was surprisingly touching for a game centered around murdering aliens.

The problem was that the series is schizophrenic; each game is quite different from the one before it. The first one had an interesting alternate history set-up with a neat semi-regenerating health system; it had great atmosphere and interesting weapons, but it's pacing was a bit off. Even though it was pretty good, they stumbled with the second one when they abandoned the set up of RFOM to be a Halo/CoD clone. As much as I enjoyed R2 (the coop was awesome), R3 is really the game that should have followed RFOM. R2 really doesn't fit in and I think it turned a lot of people off of the Resistance series as it was clearly just a Halo/CoD clone.

If Insomniac had focused on the strengths of the first game and improved on it, instead of throwing it all out trying to clone other games, they would've had more success. Look at Uncharted; the first one was similar to RFOM in that it had good ideas but also some flaws (repetition, endless waves of pirates, repetition). It was good, but not great. Rather than throwing out what they built up in the first game, Naughty Dog addressed the issues and made an amazing follow-up. That's what R3 was, but 2-3 years too late.

Well, the brand lives on with Sony so we'll probably still see Resistance games, just not from Insomniac. Who knows, a good reboot could change peoples minds about the brand.

R3? Best in series? Meh. Felt more like a spin-off than it did a trilogy ending sequel... Fall of Man remains the best, in my opinion, for its brilliant narrative and well done world. And, to be one of the first games to have a pre-WWII vs. alien invasion motif, which was cool.

At any rate, R3 had horrible pacing, bland multiplayer, took away the cool co-op of R2 and dropped Hale like a bad habit, replacing him with a boring character. All in all... not best in series.

It is sad that they threw in the towel on the resistance series. The last one had a terrible story. It briefly touched on quite a few things that left a number of questions which will never be answered. It reminds me of GoW3 ending. At least they can make a pseudo-sequel/spin-off that can develop it further.

Loved Resistance Fall of Man and Resistance 2, thought Resistance 3 was kinda rushed outta the gate and felt like a return to the roots of the original game. I just didn't like the ending that much, it was a total letdown compared to Killzone 3. I think the Killzone franchise at least with Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 is a much better franchise and sold better than Resistance 3 and it's probably gonna be their main FPS flagship title when Killzone 4 comes out. Now I will say I am glad Insomniac is done with Resistance series, if you looked at the Spyro franchise they only released three games and then moved on to another franchise. I think if Sony gave the series to Guerrilla Games they could take over it and make it on par with Killzone 3. What I loved about Killzone 3 is that they fixed all of the problems in Killzone 2 like the controls for one which made it more feel like I was playing COD 4 and the story was better. Now Insomniac could've done the same with Resistance 3 had a better story as at times I felt it was trying to be a survival horror game when you get to the latter stages where the grimes come out. I would've loved for Hale to be the villain in Resistance 3 and ran with that idea, Capeii against Hale. I do wish Isomniac the best of luck with Overstrike with EA.

Not gonna lie Resistance 3 was lack luster gameplay wise and the story was boring. I loved the first two but the third one wasn't even in my top ten of last year. Kinda sucks that they aren't making anymore Resistance games but how much story can you drag out after your main conceptual character dies at the end of two? I'm not surprised that there was a third game but I was pretty sure after that, that would be it. Well, maybe they can focus more on Ratchet and Clank and not make another "All 4 One" bullshit and we can see how Overstrike does. They had too many projects if they kept Resistance around and if any of the three had to be cut it wasn't gonna be Ratchet and Clank that's for shit sure.
