@BPMOmega XBL PSN Steam

All Nintendo needs to do is implement a "friend request" system. You type in a friend code, and the recipient receives a Notification message like this:

"You have received a Friend Request from [username]"

The message would have a picture of their Mii with their friend code, and all you do is select "Accept" or "Decline".

Simple as that.

I wonder if the 3DS will be updated to support the username system, and if that means we'll be getting an actual messenger.

@Maxx the Slasher

Doubtful, unless they can find a way to get older games built with friend codes to be updated for usernames.

They can, but it'd be issued with the patch and would be a pain to do.

Why not just connect the friend code to the account name for older games?

@mrantimatter Selling my digital console games to a friend sounds pretty good to me, for starters.

More than one account per console? At least that's better than the PS Vita.
Not that it matters for me anyway, since I'm the only person in my household that play video games.

I hope Nintendo succeeds in finally developing a comparable to Xbox Live online service. I also hope that this means that they are adding an Ethernet port on the Wii U as well, I haven't seen one on it yet.

I believe a picture of Fry with the words "shut up and take my money" is appropriate now.

@monkey man

Try a "Welcome to 2001" party. The original Xbox had all those features.

Better late than never. If the Wii U didn't have a solid online system I think many hardcore gamers would've passed on it. This is the first piece of news for the Wii Uvthat has got me excited. Keep it up Nintendo!

I keep hearing people mention xbox live as the bench mark. I use it to play the occasional fps online just like my friends use the psn to play the occasional online fps. Im not seeing the difference in quality. What am I missing?

@TwEE

I hear ya. I own all three systems, have a PS+ and XBLG membership and I've never understood the hype around XBL. Even the game discounts I get as a gold member have never really appealed to me.

Not sure why anyone is excited by this. It still means you have to purchase a Wii U to get on the network. You guys aren't seriously considering buying one, are you? Really? Wow.

I've said this Before and i'm gonna say this Again. The Only way im buying a WiiU is if Nintendo makes a Console Pokemon Game just like the Portable Gameboy/DS Pokemon Games. Where you can walk around catch pokemon, Train them, battle Gym Leaders, and the Pokemon Leugue and the Ability to Custimize our Character because Pokemon is an RPG and all RPG's have to have Customization. But on a Console and with Updated 3D Graphics kind of like the GameCube Gale of Darkness, and Colossium games. The WiiU being more powerful than the Xbox 360, and the PS3. They can do it, pluss with The WiiU Online Multiplayer we can battle with other people online like just go to a Pokemon Center and Go Online and find matches an Battle other Trainers around the World. A Full Fledged Console Pokemon Game with Exploration, and stuff like that or it could be a Console/PC MMORPG or something. And then and ONLY THEN will Nintendo Have My Money once again.

What's always been unfortunate about the Wii was it's inability to patch things online, with the exception of a few games (COD, Zelda, etc.). I'm glad that will finally be remedied here. (Yes yes Welcome to the year 20xx Nintendo... I get it..)

I don't so much mind DLC. But I hope some see the lack of DLC on the Wii system as a good thing. Imagine if the Hero Quest in Skyward Sword was DLC, or the mini-epilogue mission in Other M, or the green star run through in Galaxy 2. Nintendo, hypothetically, could have charged us these quests as add-on or DLC, but they didn't. As they stated, Nintendo releases complete games, and I do believe the DLC that they do end up releasing will be meaningful. Just don't get greedy Nintendo!

@Ultima After reading through the source article on the Nintendo website, it sounds like they are specifically taking the mindset of "sell a complete, finished game first, add DLC later if it seems like a good idea". None of this Disc-Locked-Content crap that we keep seeing from companies like Capcom this generation.

Here's a direct quote from Iwata for you: "Please note that Nintendo, as a software maker, does not plan to deploy businesses where our consumers cannot know in advance which item will appear as the result of their payment and they have to repeat the payments and, before they know it, they end up spending a huge amount of money in order to obtain the items they originally wanted to purchase. As a software maker, Nintendo believes that its packaged software should be sold to our consumers in a form so that the consumers will know in advance that they can enjoy playing the software they purchased just as it is. We believe that our consumers will be able to feel more secure if we offer our add-on content as an additional structure in which those who love the game will be able to enjoy it in a deeper way for a prolonged play time."

Reading that alone made me happy that Nintendo seems to understand how DLC is supposed to work, which is more than I can say for Capcom.

I don't care if they are 7, 11 or 2000 years later. Nintendo is surely making the right decisions now, and that's a good sign for what is about to come.

It's sad that Nintendo is so far behind that this is the best Nintendo news I feel like there's been for a really long time...

But I'm going to look on the bright side! This is the best Nintendo news I've heard in a LONG time! Now if we get achievements I'll be a happy panda. :D

I for one never understood the big thing about achievements Derp. Back when i played super mario land an the SNES, when i completed a level, the little red circle would turn to yellow.. or something similar. Then a path that was previously blocked would magically open up with some nice music and an accompanying feeling of... ...er acheivement. It does not need to be called a special name, and the 'lack' of achievements in non xbox games or whatever just makes me confused. when you beat a portion of the game, you progress, and by definition, you have achieved something (however useless in real life terms). Sadly though, this 'Achievement' things seems to be becoming standard. I remember beating the times in goldeneye to get the cheats activated. those were certainly some very difficult 'achievements'.
