@nerdydesi1 Ya, but there's a difference between not liking a name (Vita) and having a ridiculously silly name (Wii and even moreso Wii U). Not to mention that just adding a U on the end is going to confuse mothers to no end.

It would be cool if they called it the N7, but that would mean admitting Virtual Boy was a legit console.

No offense, but I don't think a system's name should dictate wether you should buy It or not.

It does actually. The Wii-U is targeting casuals as well as hardcore users. Casuals will be confused as F@%K over it

To them it looks virtually the same and sounds the same. It's branding and marketing 101. They're begging to lose money on the sucker as it stands.

Then again, they could give a real cool name and it'll be their Dreamcast...

Wii was a good name. It is easily recognizable, simple to pronounce and doesn't alienate anyone.
3DS was a terrible name, though. There are still many, many people who think that it's just a normal DS with a 3D screen.

Well going by the recent rumors, it's 6X more powerful than the 360, so i think they'll be more than pleased.

6x stronger then 6 year old tech on it's way out isn't a bragging right, really, it's a basic expectation.

1.5x the 360, or 2x most recently, or 20% less than the next Xbox. Have yet to see Wii U called 6x the Xbox 360.

I saw the next Xbox is going to be 6x the 360, but not the Wii U.

Didn't you just prove yourself right? If the 720 is 6x more powerful than the 360, and the WiiU is 20% less than that, doesn't that make the WiiU 5x more powerful than the 360?

Much more than 1.5x or 2x

Not at all I think. I'd say IGN's rumor wasn't very credible, especially this early in the development of the console. The Wii U was announced E3 2011 and since they've still been finalizing various aspects of the hardware. Most comments and rumors have pegged it around the 1.5-2x mark.

I guess you could fault me for citing IGN without connecting the dots that their rumor implies it'd be around 5x or so, but I haven't take their rumor too seriously, so I never really thought about it much. So far they're the only ones saying the Wii U would have such a vast difference over the PS3/360.

@Shadowbender I don't see why, it would have been 6 years since the launch of the last consoles, its high enough time! Eg. PS2 launched in 2000, PS3 launched in 2006.

@Shadowbender Ya... it's hard to think of this as "next gen" though. This is a system with graphics that have been updated to the current generation. My personal opinion is that they should have just waited and released a real next gen console. Time will tell if this was a smart move.

I don't understand where all this "Has been updated to current generation graphics" stuff has coming from. Any reports I've seen about WiiU graphics is that it will be close to next gen graphics and that it'll be capable of better graphics than both 360 and PS3

Might be the fact that Iwata and Miyamoto themselves claimed that the Wii U's wouldn't be as powerful as other Next Gen systems.

Nintendo is not usually first to release a console...I somehow don't feel very optimistic that it'll be popular with parents--especially if the touchscreen controller needs to be replaced after a kid busts the screen.

Well obviously the controller will need replaced if its broken, thats true of any system. The question is if it will happen easily, and I doubt it will.

Oh, and a price at $300 or under.

This might be the first Nintendo console I don't buy at launch, in a long, long time.

The whole focus in innovating control schemes has gotten a little wearing. I was fine with the Wii, but then they pull out this huge controller that only one can be used with the system, and everyone else has to use Wii remotes? Innovating controls are fine, but I want to use a regular controller sometimes, you know? If the hardware is up to task of demanding games, then the developers will have to implement some kind of control that actually makes sense, and with most developers, when doing multiplatform games, they will just slap some half-assed control scheme on it and call it a day.

That, and Nintendo's glacially slow adoption of online gaming. Ever since the SNES, we were promised online gaming in one form or another. And today we have ridiculously awkward system/friends codes while other systems have full-fledged networks. All in the name of protecting kids from stangers online, which is important, but it gimps every other player when you can't even tell if someone in a multiplayer game is a human or a bot because there's no distinguishing in some games unless you used friend codes.

The WiiU is supposed to fix some of these, but I will wait and see.

After trying very hard to get the Wii as soon as possible, and getting the 3DS 6 months after release, I really doubt i'd get the WiiU at launch. It took 6 months for the 3DS to start getting a decent library of games.

Me being a huge Nintendo fan, Skyward Sword is the only game worth playing for me. Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Metroid Prime 3, and Mario Galaxy have all been pretty MEH to me.

They're gonna need some awesome Pikmin, another great Zelda game, and a new original IP to get me to buy this WiiU. (really I'm gonna wait for all the next gen consoles now)

@Rauland I haven't bought a Nintendo console, for my self, since the SNES. That was the last console that they were clearly the best console on the market. The N64 was limited by cartridge based memory. The GC was limited by lack of online play. The Wii was limited by SD graphics and I'm really turned off by the Wii U's tablet controller.

People are reacting too quickly. We don't even have a final design, much less specific features besides the controller.

I don't know why people worry so much. Wii is a disaster in many terms, and sold excellently. And I don't care Wii is much more limited in graphics power, or online features, or multimedia reproduction. I love my Wii because it has many tremendous games, and I know Nintendo will continue to deliver more magical games in their new machine.

It's all about the games at the end :)
