@monkey man

This must be your first transition between console generations. Well what happens is the console makers put out new hardware every 5 or so years and temp people to buy their new hardware with new games. They also temp people who already own current gen consoles to upgrade to new gen versions.

was never that intrigued by the wii and the arrival of motion controls on ps3 and 360 really convinced me to not change anything up, but the wii u sounds extremely promising and looks like it could cater to the hardcore gamer.

@CraszyAsce are you kidding me? It will just be a porting console. Third party devs will go for 360 and ps3 first since that's where the install base is then port to the wii u. What can it offer hardcore gamers that we aren't already getting? HD mario and zelda? I love those first party games from my childhood as much as anyonne but come on....

Got quite a bit of entertainment out of my original Wii. Sure, the system had quite a few duds and all, but there were always enough good games to keep me going during the entire lifespan overall.
Will be looking forward to this, and getting on day one.

You seem to think this is next gen. Its no more next gen than adding kinect was. Don't fool yourself, this is a port machine. For example, the next final fantasy will be a PS game and ported to Wii and xbox. It will not be a Wii game first. This means Wii U versions will always be inferior. Could the original Wii play something like Final Fantasy 13 or MGS4? No. Will the Wii U be able to play Xbox 3 and PS4 games? No. its fine if you consider it next gen but its only going to be a machine that ports current gen software so I won't consider ir next gen. I predict a $250 launch price since the 'tablet' has no processor and simply streams from the Wii U. Also, the 'tablet' uses resistive and not capacitive touch so it will be cheap. Lastly, it looks uncomfortable to use as a controller.

Care to share the exact specs for the Wii U, Xbox Whatever and PS4?

How is a major upgrade in processing power, well beyond anything available, not next gen?

@KaBob799 Sure, I know just as much as you do. You can tell me it's going to be a god machine and I'll tell you it's going to be more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox 2 but not NEARLY as powerful as the Xbox 3 and PS4. Who will be right? Only time will tell (me). It will run current gen games that are ported to it and not run next gen games. People that buy this for hardcore games are going to get stuck with this thing to play a bunch of minigames with again except this time it will be worse because most of the "expanded audience" that they created won't want to buy a new one of these when they already have one. I predict this will not be a great deal for gamers, it's going to be something of a Gamecube type of failure (while still profitable for Nintendo).

As for the processor, I can tell you with certainty that the "tablet" is not going to have a real graphics processor. It's going to be a dumb terminal for the Wii U. There's just no chance in the world that they're going to create a REAL tablet that competes with the likes of the Ipad or Android AND bundle it with a new console and be able to charge anywhere near the price range games expect. It won't be usable away from the Wii U, it won't have Wifi, it won't have a web browser, it won't have apps. It won't do anything a real tablet does. It's got controls on it and if you look at the pictures of it, it looks very uncomfortable to hold.

Just because the WiiU won't get a final fantasy game first means it will be inferior? Lolno. There are tons of PC games that were released after their console counterparts and are way better

>Who will be right? Only time will tell (me).
Being a complete douchebag will not help get your point around. Infact, it will do just the opposite.

>I'll tell you it's going to be more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox 2 but not NEARLY as powerful as the Xbox 3 and PS4

I hate to break it to your little fanboy mind, but the Xbox 3 is only 20% more powerful than the WiiU which isn't a whole lot considering its launching a full year ahead of the WiiU.

> It won't be usable away from the Wii U, it won't have Wifi, it won't have a web browser, it won't have apps.

Funny thing is, it WILL have all these things.

> It's got controls on it and if you look at the pictures of it, it looks very uncomfortable to hold.

How about I ignore that fact that you have been obviously biased up to this point and the fact that looking at pictures isn't enough to deem whether or not its comfortable and proceed to state that NEARLY EVERY person who actually held damn thing (Which is ,by the way, more reliable than just looking at pictures) has said that the controller is very comfortable to hold.

I want to see one person defend the name "Wii U". "Wii" was a terrible name to start with and now they are making it sound like a goddamn siren.

According to CVG, Nintendo might rename the system due to "negative" feedback from the press and fans.

I doubt it though. The Wii U is already trademarked, and they even made a logo for it.

The "Revolution" was just a codename for the Wii, it was never trademarked.

If the Wii U Shop has the same quality releases as the 3DS eShop, in addition to regular Virtual Console releases (come on GameCube, Dreamcast, and Saturn!), then I think Nintendo will be fine next gen.

Gameplay beats high tech graphics any day, in my opinion. There's a reason why so many old games are still enjoyable to this day, because they were built with a strong gameplay foundation, first and foremost.

Shigeru Miyamoto always starts with gameplay first, and graphics second. I agree that graphics DO make a lasting impression, but without solid gameplay and tight controls, the whole game falls apart. What good is a video game if it has gorgeous graphics, but bad gameplay?

/rant over

I'm buying a Wii U day one. And if the recent Xbox 3 / 720 rumors are true, then the two consoles will be very close in terms of power. Microsoft is planning on releasing the next Xbox in 2013, giving Nintendo a year-long head start. No one knows what Sony will do, perhaps they haven't decided on the PS4's specs yet?

I'm tired of people acting like it's impossible to design good games first and foremost and also give them good graphics. Look at the Uncharted series. Great graphics and great games and overall gameplay. Even the Halo series makes great use of art style in it's games.

Graphics are about more than just being realistic too. In the past graphics were a huge limitation on personal expression, but also fostered creativity as people had to find ways around the limitations. These days there aren't as many limitations, but there's still just as much creativity.

I think games can always look better, no matter how good they may already look. You can take any Wii game, run it in Dolphin, adjust it to 1080p, add some AA, and it will almost always look better. Some of the HD (via Dolphin emulator) screens of the Op-Rainfall games were nearly breathtaking.

i always loved the slot loading optical.... tray seems pretty redundant what with like..platis for the tray, and the motor for it and everthing. and needing more space in front of the machine. it is an elegant solution
