Resident Evil: Revelations was announced to have a $50 price tag last year, mostly because of its 4GB cartridge, which is 2GB larger than most 3DS games'. After "weeks of effort," Capcom has dropped that price to $40 -- standard for the 3DS -- without infringing on the cart size, Capcom's Brett Elston announced.
Elston said he thinks the title is still worth $50, which is why it's so great that Nintendo's Circle Pad Pro, which we feel is necessary to properly enjoy Revelations, will be an extra $20.

I was willing to pay 50 for RE:R.
If the content is there to justify the price, I don't see the problem.
Uncharted is doing it for the vita, which interests me.
Considering they could just about call that Uncharted 4 if they wanted to.
It'll be interesting to see how the vita goes, especially considering it closes the gap between console and portable closer than we've ever seen yet.

Because no one sells game by content. If they did, skyrim would be "worth" at least $120 because I spent twice as much time in it than I normally do with "long" games and I still haven't touched every side quest.
$50 and getting away with it would be annoying on the 3DS, because I'm not going to pay $40 for a so-so game just because some "premium" games are at $50. Which is what would happen if people still bought it at $50.
I'd like to see them called on their bullshit, though, if anyone else tries to sell a game for $50 on the 3DS claiming larger cart size as a reason. Great, when "Nintendo Network" is up put the title up there for $10 less to prove your point.

The idea that a game cant be worth 40 bucks just because it's a portable game is a bit ridiculous. If the amount of work that goes into it is evident it should be worth the same price, the lowered prices we experienced in the days of the GBA were the result of the smaller resources required for portable games. Thats why you can buy a ipod game for 2 bucks because they usually have no overhead but also no voice acting or intensive 3D and if they do they cost a lot more than 2 bucks. These days though on portable systems that have high polygon counts and deeply designed play mechanics as well as voice acting and a possibly 15 hours storyline to say it's not worth 40 is just misguided.
Knowing Capcom and their horrible track record with consumer approval this generation, I think the only reason for the price drop was that they got some kind of kickback from the slide pad sales

It boggled my mind when I read about that. How does something like that happen? At the same, time though, I kind of want one of those boxes with the misspelled title.

$60? Nah, I'll just wait for the inevitable 3DS Lite with the right circle pad built in. By then Revelations will likely be less as well.

Why was this downvoted? I'm in the same boat. I'm waiting for a revised 3DS. I'd even love a much cheaper 3DS without the 3D. I know it's not going to happen, but a guy can dream.
Before you downvote me too, I've tried the 3D and it feels like it's forcing my eyes crosseyed. I get a headache within like 5 minutes.

Just like the motion plus is required to play skyward sword, I see this second circle pad being required in the future which sucks. It already barely fits in my pocket and with the circle pad it won't fit at all.

I can see paying $40 for a Vita game, but a DS game? Basically I look at it by resolution. If a console game is $60 at 720p and Vita games are $40 at 540p 3DS games should be around $18 at 240p. Although the 3ds has 2 displays so you could technically double that price.

I already pre-ordered it and paid for it in full because the game looks that damn good to me. Do I get my $10 back or is it trapped in Revelaitons-Limbo?

I wonder what weeks of effort to lower a retail price point looks like.

Finally, a triple A game with a developer who understands the market.

It isn't really a 'normal' 3DS game. Its got more production values than pretty much anything else out there. Still, at $40 it should be much more appealing despite being worth $50.

Sure took them a while to understand that a playstation game with 4 CDs back in 1999 was the same price as a game with one CD. That whole "bigger game card= higher price" was just what it was- BS.

You don't jack up the price because it's using the MT engine or it's size is bigger than any other 3ds game. They realized their flawed logic and have corrected it.

That's great. I liked the demo, and I thought it played fine as is, so I wonder what the Circle Pad Pro will do for it.

@BPMOmega XBL PSN Steam I assume it would do away with the tank controls. Which actually worked perfectly fine in the demo, they got the job done.

I'm getting that hideous CPP cause the 3DS hurts my hands when playing Revelations. Pressing R + something and L + something really hurts, even using the analog control hurts.
Note: I'm not used to DS, I have the DS Lite just for Professor Layton and other puzzle games. I got the 3DS for RE Revelations, so I'm just not used to tiny controls and apparently the CPP is more comfortable for bigger hands.

People on here are talking about how much work a developer has put into a game, but realistically the pricing is an issue of standardization. $50 dollars for a 3DS game is retail suicide, it would be like selling any console game (standard edition of course) at $70. A game's worth to the player can't really hold weight next to consumer expectations.
