@CaptainProtonX As the designs "evolve" ... Nightmare already looks like a winged, painted bikini-clad thing... or whatever it's supposed to be.

Nah, I'd rather get these little DLC items through redeeming a code on the next bottle of SC5 endorsed Mountain Dew.

This type of DLC is always so tedious and I can't help grumbling that it's the sort of thing that should just be included with a retail purchase. Whole new characters with new moves is one thing, but enough with the careful doling out of costume pieces and other fragmenting of what should be the standard experience for paying customers. I know, "if you don't like it, don't buy it," but the problem is that I do want this stuff, just in the $50+ disc I may be buying next week.

@Ebok007 This. So much, this. The character creator is largely one of the reasons I'm considering getting SCV so stuff like this should be available from the get-go. At the very least, it should have just been unlockable in-game, like all of the CaS parts in SCIII.

For the total lack of content SCV seems to have overall (Story Mode, Arcade, Online, Training, Character Creation... and that's it? WTF!), this content (soundtracks included) should have been there to begin with. The game just isn't worth $60 as is, especially when it's compared to all of the content that SCII and SCIII had built-in.

Story Mode just can't hold up to the length of Weapon Master Mode or Chronicles of the Sword and being able to play Online shouldn't account for that lack of length. Look at King of Fighters XII; it was bare-bones and ended up poorly received.

I hate all of this microtransaction DLC BS. Why can't we go back to the days when DLC was basically just Expansion Packs?! -_-

Nickel-and-Diming the customer is the new wave in the gaming industry. It's almost the messing of two worlds: premium purchase with freemium microtransactioning.

The big story is when a game is released with NO DLC plan, and the content on disc is considered "complete".

And what about an online pass (another WAVE OF THE FUTURE)? Will this game incorporate that? Let's just call it a "Soul Pass" if so.

There were a few. The Shivering Isles for Oblivion is a pretty good example (and funny considering the horse armor thing).

@Vic Fontaine I was moreso meaning just a return to a larger content release that was, you know, actually worth paying for instead of this microtransaction crap. From the top of my head, a couple of the DLC packs for Oblivion/Fallout 3/Fallout: NV/Valkyria Chronicles would be the closest to what I'm meaning, I guess.

It's just extremely annoying that companies (ESPECIALLY Namco and Capcom) seem to fancy quick cash-grab DLC (most of which should be unlockable in-game; it's a shame that DLC has basically taken away one of the best features of older games) instead of taking the time to actually produce a quality product that isn't released right away and is slightly higher priced. Since DLC basically evolved from PC expansion packs, it pains me every time I see terrible DLC like this when I'm used to how high the standard used to be many years ago on the PC.

@CaptainProtonX Maybe that's why all of the analysts and such have been professing the downfall of the industry. Companies are too focused on maximizing their profits by keeping costs high (and further increasing them via several $2.99 DLC pack that adds two costumes, etc.) or only green-lighting rehash titles that re guaranteed to sell 1m+ units (though, the blame for that lies with the consumers more).

Maybe if companies would shift more towards the approach of freemium titles (maybe $40 for a new copy + reasonably-priced microtransaction DLC?), consumers wouldn't have as much of an issue with being nickle-and-dimed like this.

"The big story is when a game is released with NO DLC plan, and the content on disc is considered "complete"."
Lord, I wish this would be the rule these days instead of the exception.

As for the Online Pass (or the rumored reports about what the NextBox will do), there's not much the consumer can do about it beyond talking with their wallets. At least until every game has it and sales dramatically plunge across the board or until GameStop/etc. comes up with a brilliant way around it to keep the Used market useful. I'm all for buying new and supporting developers, but the publishers and companies need to realize that, while this is a business, it's also a hobby for many of their primary customers.

The reason Used sales are so large (beyond the time-honored tradition of people believing that they should own their physical property and be able to do whatever they want with it, including selling it at a yard sale - this whole "you only are licensed the software" thing is completely BS) is because consumers want to minimize their expenses, especially in this economy. Again, if the companies didn't want to rake in record profits with each big 1m+ selling title and had a lower entry fee, perhaps the used market wouldn't be such a big deal.

I agree. It's ok for a Free to Play game. Purchasing $20 or even $50 worth of items is ok because you got a free game. But buying a $50 game to just immediately spend another $10 for DLC is stupid.

I hope these aren't just unlock codes for on disc content like they were for SCIV. There's something really annoying about that, especially so soon after release.

The more and more I hear about it, SCV seems like it's just a pure money grab disguised as a fighting game...

c'est le vie; let's hope I don't regret plopping down for the Collector's Edition...

Clearly you should create the fattest female character, put her in a bikini, slap one of the animal heads on her, and then take her online, and then proceed to wonder why everyone stops playing with you.

And this is the reason I don't plunk down money for these games when they're released. Getting nickel-and-dimed for content that's probably on the damn disc in the first place pretty much guarantees that I'll pass and wait for the later Collector's Ultimate Platinum Mega Remix Edition.

Time to dig out the Dreamcast and play Soul Calibur again. You can't improve on perfection after all.

This has to be one of the worst excuses for dlc I have seen in awhile. These are all things that should have been included for free with the purchase of the game. For $60 you would think devs would be doing everything they could to make people feel theybare getting a great value. Then this crap just degrades the value.

Actually I take that back saints row did something similar with costume packs right at launch. Ugh....gaming industry! You're letting us all down.

OMG am I the only one who is getting sick of the whiners?!

EVERY time there is any mention of DLC people go off on annoying rants about how it's not a complete game, and how they are getting ripped off, or they are going to wait for the complete edition, or whatever BS.

Companies should just say they aren't going to ever add anything to their games. Would that stop the whining?! Once upon a time people would die for any little thing to be added to their game. Not devs take the time to add silly little things. And yes they expect to be paid for their work.

Come on, a single buck, whatever. Don't buy if you don't want it, or if you don't think it's worth a buck. But obviously there are enough people who do think it's work it to keep companies making these add-ons. But whiners want everything for free. You're getting a complete game for $60. You don't need the add-ons. Let it go if you feel ripped off.

Also there are plenty of companies that give you a lot of bang for your buck. Look at the Shivering Isles expansion as someone pointed out. Well worth it.

Stop whining all the time, people. Clearly you whine here and go home and buy the DLC anyway.

Once upon a time things like this were included with the game. Either as part of it, or as an unlockable.

You didn't have to pay to change your color in Street Fighter 3. You didn't have to pay to change your costume in Smash Bros. Melee. You didn't have to pay to unlock cars in a racing game. You didn't have to pay to use cheat codes.

When you're buying a game and having to buy individual levels, remember how you said these complaints were invalid.
