NMA TV's breakdown of Nintendo's financial situation is as zany as you'd expect
54
Nintendo is coming off of a pretty rough fiscal year, posting an anticipated loss of ¥65 billion ($839M) despite strong sales for Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. They're optimistic for the future, naturally, with the 3DS performing well since the price drop and the Wii U right around the corner, but that enthusiasm hasn't been enough to repair the company's trading value.
It's a serious situation with meaningful implications both for stockholders and the industry as a whole, so who better to provide a comprehensive breakdown of the situation than the incomprehensibly bizarre and often disturbing creative powerhouse that is NMA TV. If you've seen any of their other videos, you've got a good idea of what to expect in the media briefing above. If not, you'd better sit down.

Lot's of tussles in here about who's right or wrong. All I know is the Wii was severely lacking in a large quality library outside of the tried and true series that are almost binary in their fan situation: You either cannot get enough or you are burnt out. So burnt out that a new Zelda or Mario is like "Oh, another one of those, that's neat".
My DS library is almost completely third party. Picross and Picross 3D are my main Nintendo titles. I can think of only one Wii game I'd like to play, that being the RPG Xenoblade that it took fans of the "company that cares about video games" months upon months of campaigning to get a release.
Nintendo is just backwards and behind the times in all of their design. I do not speak of graphics or power, but services. There was not a good reason to fight so long to get access to storage on the Wii or DSi models. No good reason exists not to have full DS titles on the DSiware or e-Shop stores. A lot of great titles are selling for $50+ (cart only!) when they could be on the network for $10 and still making money for Nintendo and the Pubs/Devs.
Friend codes, shops, media support. A lot of it contrary to what I expect from a digital age of Steam, PSN, and XBL.
That's my complaint. I guess I am pampered with my PSP in having full fledged titles directly on my memory stick (legit, too!). No artificial scarcity.
That's my beef with, Nintendo. They pander to the hardcore fans, catered towards the every-man, and left everything lukewarm overall. I don't wish them ill, to go out of business, and all that nonsense. I would like there to be four strong platforms rather than the three now.

Where exactly have you been shopping? I haven't seen a single DS game for $50 and only a very small portion of them have been $40 new. None of the cartridge only 3DS games have passed $40 either.

Thats your own fault, the DS is home to tons of great first party games many of which aren't mario or zelda.

With the Wii U, they'll have the high-end console for at least a couple years. That means cross-platform releases may end up running at 1080p, 60fps on the Wii-U, with a downgraded experience on 360/PS3. It'll be immediately refreshing to have a Nintendo console that joins the modern world, after milking the Gamecube/Wii platform for 10+ years.
