Final Fantasy XIII-2 purchases on Amazon net $20 gift card
30
Looking to do some time travel on the cheap? Amazon's not quite able to bend time just yet, but it can offer you a $20 credit on a brand new copy of the just-released Final Fantasy XIII-2, not to mention a digitized "mini strategy guide." We're hopeful that the strategies are bigger than the guide itself.
Should you choose to go with Amazon's deal, you could always put the $20 credit towards a flux capacitor or something that might actually facilitate time travel. Maybe hallucinogens? We're not sure if Amazon's in that racket yet, but that's another potential avenue for seeking your desire to float across the pond of time. Maybe a Doors album is a better way to go?

@mlg rules you cant trust reviews nothing beats actual hands on time with it i'm over 10 hrs in and its amazing
the majority of the reviews are judging this game based on the individual reviewrs expectations and not the game itself
case in pont check out the Kotaku review of it .
and some reviewers are are still taking out their frustration over 13 on this game and not judging it on its own

A lot of the reviews I've seen are more positive though, Joystiq's is one of the lowest.

It's a FF game, of course there's going to be expectations! The same expectations we all have.when it comes to this dying series.
It's not like FFXIII was hard to improve upon in the first place.

@teknobeavr It's a direct sequel to a previous game which was a serious letdown. I don't know how expectations wouldn't play into it.

I wonder if the game wasn't called Final Fantasy 13-2, and 13 was a completely new JRPG IP from square, how the critical reception would be. Better? Worse? Each FF game (or game series such as this) can basically stand on their own and thus should be judged as such. When professionally reviewing the game you should throw your personal opinion and expectations out the window.

Even as a standalone game 13 would still be a bad game.

The game is getting mostly 80's from the reputable reviewers. For me a game needs to be better than 80 to spend $60, I stopped buying average games when developers chose to start charging more, they expect me to pay more then I expect them to make better games.
That said $40 is a good price for an 80 quality game but only having 2 characters (and stupid characters at that) is a deal breaker, theyd have to be interesting like Balthier and Fran from XII if theres just 2, but they are just two stereotypical japanese metro sexuals with no originality.

Unless you buy the CE, then you get no credit. At least as fast as I know. Amazon has never given credits for any CEs I've purchased.

Feels strange that Lighting is seen in the game's logo, was the main character of the last game, seems pretty important in this one, and is only accessible via DLC.
I too think that I'll wait on this a bit, at least till all the dlc is out and is included in one package.

Keep in mind that Amazon's credits that they offer are only good on things sold AND shipped by Amazon itself, which in the case of videogames is usually considerably more expensive than other sellers on there (talking brand new, not used items).
Also, the credit usually has to be usedin 30 days from the time it's issued, so the fact that your'e getting a $20 credit on something that'll run you another $5-$10 in shipping unless you buy something else to get you above that $25 free "slow as frozen molasses" shipping rate makes it more trouble than it's worth.
I'm not cynical, it's just that I dealt with this problem back in December and won't do it again.

@(Unverified) Every credit I've gotten from amazon in the past two years has expired in 1 year rounded up to the nearest month (so if it shipped on 10/15/2011, the credit expires 10/31/2012). They also have credits on most new games that at least match the competition, so I've had no problem using the credit in time since I tend to buy one or two new games each quarter, it's just that it's admittedly kind of an endless cycle. :)

@Jason B Maybe mine was just a crappy deal then? Mine was seriously good for 30 days and that's it.

Have enough people stopped playing Skyrim to put out another RPG?

I pre ordered the collector's edition, and that is not elligible for this deal? Thats complete BS. Its like I paid 40$ extra instead of 20.

I still have the last release brand new and sealed. lol Insane backlog. I was an idiot for buying it release date two years ago as I can get the same game now for like 10 bucks. This one will price drop so fast. so $40 bucks isn't a great deal.
Mass Effect 3 will be the only game that gets my full $60 bucks this year.
