As we predicted, the introduction of Square Enix titles on Good Old Games has led to another Eidos classic appearing on the service. Here we are, only a week since the publisher's induction and Thief Gold, an expanded version of the original Thief: The Dark Project, has been added to the GOG catalogue. You can sneak up on the granddaddy of modern stealth games for a mere $10.
*The above headline is a joke. Please don't steal Thief, even though it's DRM-free.

Wonder what else they've got up their sleeves. I hope Final Fantasy 7 shows up this release cycle.

That's probably the last title I'd be excited to see on GOG.

Hands down one of my most memorable gaming experiences. Not that this is usually noteworthy, but I also loved its cutscenes on their own merit. Note: If the game seems to slow down on the 4th or 5th mission in, hang in there, the lull is short and followed by greatness.

The graphics may not have aged well but the audio and gameplay sure as hell have. I can't wait to play this again. One of my top 5 fav games ever. Here's to hoping Square doesn't put this into a modern day setting and ruin Thief 4.

To be fair, they handled the Deus Ex sequel/prequel beautifully, by most accounts. It's possible the Thief sequel will be similarly competent.

That was Thief 3, IIRC. Thief 1 has never been on Steam.
It has been on another digital content-delivery service, but I can't say as I recall which one. Regardless, that was Thief: The Dark Age, and this is Thief Gold, which is the same, but with more levels, and, true to GOG form, no DRM.

I wonder if it will run on modern PCs. I was never been able to run Thief on windows XP and above with a dual core processor.

I picked up Thief: Deadly Shadows with the Square Enix pack a couple years ago, but haven't played it and in fact, have never played a Thief game. Is this the one to get?

if you want to start from the first then yes, this is the one to get. like someone mentioned above, the graphics haven't aged well, but all the gameplay mechanics, the story and the audio are still quite nice.
