Simpsons Arcade on XBLA this Friday
50
PlayStation Plus users are getting Konami's 1991 classic, The Simpsons Arcade Game, for free, while XBLA users get it a few days early on February 3, according to Game Informer. The side-scrolling beat-em-up will set you back a cool 800 Microsoft Points ($9.99) and will also include new modes, the (rumored) Japanese version of the game, as well as four-player online co-op and bonus promotional material from the game's original release.
The last time we played this game, it was in the back of a Circle K next to the ICEE machine and a Street Fighter 2 cabinet. We'll be trying our best to recreate that experience by covering every surface of the office with a thin, sticky film. Mmmm, nostalgia.

Last time I played this was in Atlantic City about 20 years ago (daaaaaaaamn).
Parents gave me a roll of quarters and dumped me at the then-decent arcade room. I guess it was better than dumping in the halls of the gambling facilities until the wee hours alone while they gambled away food money. Oh...they did that too.
Yeah, I had found memories of this game.

I always loved this game... too bad Acclaim (who owned the Simpsons console rights) wouldn't allow Konami to make a console version of it.
If you didn't know the Simpsons Arcade Game was by Konami, you've clearly never played the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade games, which are very similar to The Simpsons Arcade Game.

One of the best arcade games I played as a kid. So stoked to be a PS Plus member for this game alone!

Wow, I don't think I've played this game in about 15 years at Chuck E Cheese. Definitely will be grabbing this one.

I wonder why Joystiq didn't post anything about the PSN version. So, I guess that I'm going to have too.
Look, when you pay $60/yr for Xbox Live Arcade, you're paying to use Microsoft's services. So you're suddenly able to play demo's the day they're out, use ESPN (that jacked the price of XBLA up $10) and its the only way you can use Netflix.
Alright guys seriously. And they say that XBLA is better than PlayStation Network? Seriously? I have had a less stable gaming experience online with XBLA and a flawless gaming experience on PSN. (Not dropped games.) When you live without the the party system, you actually find out how blessed you truly are to realize what a cell phone was developed for and how I don't have to wait a half-hour to get into a game.
Now, Sony gives you demo's day 1 for free. You're not paying Sony to use Netflix, Hulu Plus or any other service really, other than Unlimited, but that's because its Sony's service. No additional fee's.
Now, if you have PlayStation Plus, not only are there thousands of other games you're getting for free (I'm seriously just about out of HDD space on my 500GB HDD in my PS3), this is a game that you LITTERALLY get for FREE on PSN. XBLA uh... I don't know anymore. Microsoft doesn't shell out stuff for free with their paid service. Sony actually does.

Oh, hey, look, I found this article from yesterday about the PSN version:
http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/31/the-simpsons-arcade-is-free-in-february-for-ps-plusers-feel-the/
All you had to do was click on "The Simpsons Arcade Game" link in the article and it would have shown you the other posts Joystiq has run about it.

@neoXmahi You may have got downvoted but, apart from the thing about Joystiq not covering the PSN version, I completely agree with you. I always found it annoying how Microsoft charges you to use crappy versions of free services, and charges you to use your own Internet connection to play online. And yet people still buy Xbox LIVE. I dunno, I've never felt that party chat was such a big deal.
Anyway, on topic, this is another example of where waiting a few days really didn't seem to matter. I'm getting it for free. I don't care if all those people on Xbox LIVE have it three days before me.
I'd be more kind to Xbox LIVE if you didn't have to pay to use almost everything. That, and if you live in New Zealand, you're screwed. If you're under the age of 18, you can't download ANYTHING. Microsoft's solution? Stop us from putting MS points on child accounts. Ugh.

Except it isn't free on psplus. You paid 50 dollars for it. PS plus is the video game equivalent of a bowling alley claw game. Maybe you get a lobster harmonica. Maybe you get crap.
Either way, you have to keep paying or you lose all the stuff. You still don't get the quality of online service you get with live, you can't install every game, you don't have cross game or party chat, there is no rewards system (especially not one that gives you money back.).
and even if you get a succession of deals on stuff you WANT and DON"T HAVE ALREADY, you need to buy 100 dollars worth of content at 50% off to break even.
XBL does all that stuff and has sales.

So what's all the bitchin? Play your PS3 then. Is someone twisting your arm or forcing you pay for Live Gold or play an Xbox at all? I don't give 2 flying f*** about what you like or don't like, whys it matter so much to you that some people like crap that you don't?
To the people it matters the most and who care, they are ALREADY PLAYING THEIR PLAYSTATIONS making all that useless PS fanboy shite nothing but a waste of space. STFU and GTFO and go play a PS3 game already. Christ, you bitch about Xbox, I hope you never ever learn about PC gaming and how much it costs to play something like Star Wars The Old Republic... you'll be writing whole blogs complaining to no one.

The trifecta is complete. First TMNT the arcade game, then X-Men the arcade game, and now The Simpsons.

You are funny. If you are really using a cell phone to talk to your friends while playing online then you either have a high bill, your parents pay your bills, or you have the ability to talk to several people on one phone call. Either way LIVE has got better download speeds, better customer support, and a better overall service than PSN. Check with your service provider if you are having trouble with LIVE because I don't know anyone who has has a problem with it. Mean while with PSN I personally cringe when I need to download something because a file that takes maybe a minute on LIVE takes double that on PSN. Plus you have to then manually install the damn thing for some reason.

Ads don't impede the experience Idk why people are so pissy about them. I'm saying the quality of the service is better than PSN. Quality has nothing to do with giving things away for free. Downloads are faster, Netflix on LIVE has a far superior UI to the PSN (not to mention I never have an issue with sound and video being a second or so off from each other on xbox like I do when I watched it on my playstation), the service rarely goes down and when it does it isn't longer than a few hours usually, and I can actually talk to my friends even if they are in another game or app while completely blocking out the children. You can have your free games, I'm happier with better quality for my money. Btw the game is only free if you paid for PSN+. Speaking of better quality that's why I made a gaming PC, to cut out all the console BS

This is a fun game but 800 points is a ripoff for a 20 year old port that's hasn't had an HD overhaul. Should be 400 max.
...and yeah Playstation Plus is a ripoff for the sole reason that you lose access to the content as soon as you stop paying. You're essentially renting access to the content that Sony chooses for you, where on Xbox you just buy and keep what you want.
