I finally picked up Skylanders this morning for my 3 year old son. It's great! I was already back out at the store buying more characters.

I think you need to add air quotes to the 'for my three year old son' part of that comment in the interests of full disclosure.

Being a parent is awesome though for that very reason. Now if I could just get my sever-year-old daughter to like Bakugan...

@BlakeofT $70, the MSRP of the starter pack. Unless you mean every single side area in the game, in which case it's more around $110, which covers all elements.

@BlakeofT

You CAN beat the game with just the 3 they give you without missing much, so really just $70.

@DaRabidDuckie

I hate Activision as much as the next person, but I'd rather support a game thats fun and creative any day then something thats bland and overused(Cough cough COD).

yeah I got Cynder about a 4 days ago. That, and these things usually sell out in a day at most stores anyway, so I guess the announcement is good for people that really want it. Just call on the days most stores get their shipments.

A couple of things from this.

1) It should have been an online dungeon crawler. Couch co-op is fun, but still.
2) This should show that games like this will work, and I wouldnt be surprised to see a "more mature" crawler come out using the technology.
3) this game is still awesome. I love that you can take the figures to any system and play. It sucks that the distribution is lacking so severe.
4) it also sucks that Toys R Us and a few other places realize how much of a money grabber this is, and has raised the damn prices on these figures by a lot. 3 packs are $24.99 and singles are $9.99. Thats up from $19.99 and $7.99 respectfully.

Huh interesting that her model wasn't badly butchered like Spyro's. Hmm I'm starting to get interested on this but only for a few statues.

I don't quite get this so someone please explain. Essentially these real world figures act like extremely expensive DLC of new characters? That's what it looks like to an outsider, but am I missing something?

@Milf Biggenson

Yes, please explain why anyone would be buying these toys. Its not like they're a must have franchise or anything, but you HAVE to buy the toys to get game content, wtf?

Man, I'm seriously amazed at how fast these things sell. Usually by the same day that I unpack one of the individual figure sets at work, they're gone.

I mean from what i understand, the game is pretty fun. But, still, it seems like a major money sink.

It's funny because when we first got the starter packs and figures in back in November, they barely sold. Then after christmas time, when people finally opened up their presents, they were flying off the shelf.

RIP-OFFS, I got my 2 boys the set and now every day they want a new one....but they're all sold out at the stores and there's like 32 of them...at $8.00 a pop, that's $256.00 and that's not including the little expansion packs....Screw that I have my own expensive gaming habit already...

Can't find any of the character single or three packs ANYWHERE! All I want is Wrecking Ball.

Hell went into three stores today and here are the responces...
Walmart - We wont have any for another month.
Future Shop - We got a whole box in yesterday but it sold out in 30 minutes.
Best Buy - I don't think we're ordering them anymore.

Damn you Activision for artificially keeping demand high!

@GooberMagoo

Go to target or toys r us like right after open on a friday, saturday or sunday.

Toys r us seems to get shiments of them on saturday mornings. They did jack up their prices on them though which is shitty. Went in the late afternoon last saturday and all they had were about 10 of the Ice land expasion packs.

Target hasn't jacked their prices up and they gets shipments everyday but they never know when they will actually get Skylanders on them. Went there last sunday @ like 8:30 before I picked up breakfast and they had just received a shipment. Got the only Whirlwind/DoubleTrouble/DrillSargent 3 pack they got I was pretty pumped.

I don't think its Activision trying to keep the demand high. It looks to me like the production can't keep up with the demand. It almost looks like each figure is hand painted since I've noticed some sloppy paint jobs on the new production runs.

They are probably working those poor little Chines kids to death trying to keep up with demand!!! The more I think about it I should probably stop buying them.

I don't get why everyone thinks these are so exspensive. For 8 bucks you get a new charater to play and a pretty cool little figure. I buy a couple here and there its not so bad. Sure if you add it all up it sounds like a lot but you can do that with anything.

I bet most of you saying they are exspensive spend more than 8 bucks a week on fast food or coffee or something stupid. You buy a lunch or coffee or whatever everyday @ 6 bucks a pop, thats 30 bucks a week. Over the last 12 weeks (roughly the same amount of time skylanders has been out) thats $360. See what I did there.

It's a cool idea that's well executed with good character design and a quality product (both the game and the figures). I will gladly pack a lunch every day to buy this crap for myself..er I mean my 6 month old son.
