It just baffles me that so many fighting games are getting PC ports these days. I mean, I guess it makes sense if you're the type of person who'll set up a gaming PC in your home theater and buy gaming controllers for it, but the typical PC setup (on a desk with a fairly small monitor) just feels...wrong for a fighting game, especially with local multiplayer. I used to dabble in MUGEN, but I was never able to get over the weirdness of running a fighting game on my computer and quickly gave it up.

In fairness, I feel the same way about handheld ports. IMO fighters should be played one of two ways; on a console, sitting on your couch with friends, or in an arcade on a cabinet. Anything else just feels...wrong somehow. Similarly, I can't see myself playing strategy games or Diablo-esque RPGs on a console, so the bias cuts both ways.

@TheHyphenator More releases for PC is always good, and if you have an HDMI cable for your computer you can play on the couch with a big screen and better graphics.

@TheHyphenator

I'm not understanding why.

On the PC you can use an xbox 360 controller, or a PS3 controller, or a Wii mote, or any other number of pads, fight sticks, joy sticks, etc, etc.

Advantage - PC

On the PC fighting games run at 60+ FPS, better graphics, native 1080p or higher resolution.

Advantage - PC

What do the consoles have? The convenience of it being on a TV screen at 720p?

PC gaming can easily be done on large screens, from 30 inch monitors, to TV as monitor setups, to Home Theater PC's dedicated to TV entertainment, to you know, just hooking up your laptop to your TV and rollin' that way.

@TheHyphenator That's merely your opinion. I've played so many fighting games on the SNES and CPS-2 thanks to emulators that I prefer a keyboard over a controller for use! :)

@Kinthalis Also the advantage of mod support and able to play it on a desktop, HTPC or a laptop for on the go. Can you do that with a console? Nope. I'm all for the PC getting as many games and ports as possible.

My PC has a HDMI port I use when I don't want to sit at the keyboard. Why doesn't yours?

Because I only have a laptop. I can't justify the expense of keeping an up-to-date desktop computer AND a laptop, and I need the laptop a lot more.

Another reason I prefer consoles for most of my gaming; it's a lot easier and less expensive to keep up to date with them than it is with a PC.

@TheHyphenator That's changing though.

Thanks to APU's and cheaper PC hardware you can buy a small form factor case (as small as a fat xbox) that'll give you decent performance. Or a gaming laptop that isn't much bigger (if at all) than any other (non-razer thin) model.

And a kick-butt gaming rig can be had these days for ~$500.

Bottom line, I don't think anyone is saying that it's crazy to play games on a console, or that we don't understand them. Heck I love my Wii!

We're simply responding to the comment that it's somehow "wrong" to play them on PC.

Pretty sure there are plenty fo reasons to say "why the hell not?!"

;)

@TheHyphenator Its amazing how almost any topic, such as Mortal Kombat, can turn into a PC vs console debate. I have a desktop with slightly higher end components I use for most of my gaming. But I recently just bought a $600 laptop (because I needed a new one) that can also play any of today games, (it has an AMD APU and discrete graphics card combo) not at super high settings like my desktop, but at lower or medium settings, most games I can output @1080p via HDMI to my 47" HDTV. Even at lower settings I think the laptop is equal to or greater than a PS3 or Xbox360.

@TheHyphenator My 4 year old laptop has HDMI out. It still plays the latest games at roughly console detail (or better, depends on the game). Plus PC games are cheaper. Steam means they are frequently on ridiculous sales where you can buy tons of games for practically nothing. Plus mod suppot.

Your arguments don't stand up and are based on you not knowing what you're talking about rather than any fact.

I remember how bothered I was when I saw in the credits that Sub-zero and Scorpion were played by the same actor. You don't do that to a kid, man.

Because of that, I always wanted to mush both characters together into a psycho knife throwing ice ninja that eats human spines.

Admit it...it would be awesome.

You know what you get when you mix Van Damme, The Terminator, Big Trouble in Little China and a hot chick?

You get MORTAL KOMBAT!

PS: man, I really liked the photo graphics. They were cool and creepy at the same time

@MacUser1986 The reason is these are supposed to be very close to arcade perfect ports, which is not the case of any previous console release, including Trilogy.

It would be nice to have one big collection, shame and all, in one spot.

@BRiHoosier

If he owns the original version, it's not bad in my eyes. Emulating games you own or ones you can't own (arcade games) I don't really think is a problem. It's when people take brand new releases and pirate them that's the issue.

Still, I tend to buy my games that are re-releases like this from the developer. They usually tend to simply work better than through emulators anyway.

If you think this works better on the konsoles you obviously haven't tried it. Goro's music is nonexistant after a few seks and anytime you pause/unpause you kan't kontrol the game for a few sekonds, making looking up fatalities impossible and leaving you wide ass open to the kpu's impossibly effikient kombos.

If it's anything like the Kollection released for the consoles, enjoy ripping your hair out in frustration as you lose the next 100 matches in a row to the computer, on very easy.

Why do they keep pretending that Mortal Kombat Trilogy didn't exist?

My two favorite MK's are the ones that always get forgotten by the developer: MKTrilogy and MK4: Gold (Dreamcast).
