If you're a Silver subscriber on Xbox Live, downloading the Mass Effect 3 demo will allow you to cease being that one weirdo in your group who can't ever play with his friends online because he's a cheapskate. Well, in Mass Effect 3, anyway. Upon downloading the demo, all Silver members will be automatically bumped up to Gold level within the demo until Mass Effect 3 launches on March 6.
The demo will be available on February 14 not only for Xbox 360 users, but also PC and PS3. Players will get a taste of the multiplayer component and sample the Reaper attack on Earth that opens the game.

In other words, there won't be any good sales on Xbox Live between the time of the demo release and ME3 launch date.

@CaptainProtonX I just KNEW someone was going to complain about something in the first five comments. People just can't ever look at something good without making an ass of themselves.

Nah they will probably toss the people a bone or two, nothing spectacular but the whole push is obviously a marketing ploy to convince people they need to upgrade to gold.

In fairness he is right to view this with a fair amount of skepticism, again I say marketing ploy. They could have just as easily made the demo available on Silver but nope.avi
It does give them some good PR while avoiding some bad PR but its hardly some self-sacrificing/philanthropic move.

Of course it's a marketing ploy. Microsoft runs a business, not a charity. That is still no reason to complain about three weeks of free Gold service.

Making the demo available for silver uses wouldn't have the same effect as bumping up silver accounts to gold. The demo features some of the online co-operative multiplayer types which you wouldn't be able to play with a silver account.

They must be quite confident of the quality of the game's multiplayer mode then. Which is...good.

I'm confident enough I don't want to play the demo.....I mean I do but I want to wait until I actually have the game. No spoilers

Yeah I'm the same. The only demo's I play a games I'm unsure of, like this week: Twisted Metal and Syndicate. (both of which I discovered, in about 5 minutes, are not for me)

That's sort of the way I feel. ME2 was my GOTY and I've already got 3 preordered, so there's nothing this demo can do but disappoint me. Might as well just keep playing Skyrim and Rayman Origins until March 6th...

So am I reading that right? If you download the demo you get almost a month of gold features for free? If that's true that's a great deal for all those Silvers out there.
Also, anyone coming to slam on paying for Live, please turn around and leave. We don't wanna hear it

That was really nice of Bioware (and XBL). Maybe the Silver people will stop whining that they never get anything. Probably not. But look now there's a Gold whiner that expects something out of this deal too. Tool.

@InfernoShade ZOMG! I have to PAY to play XBL?! People paying for a service? What is this nonsense?!
I'm both a Live and PSN+ subscriber, and I don't see a problem with either. It's the same price as a game (even less if you're smart and buy them on discount). I just can't stand to hear PSN+ members complain about XBL's price. I mainly just use my PSN+ for the freebie games that if I were to cancel it wouldn't be playable anyway, but there's not a whole lot of pro's to having it, whereas XBL is required to play online.

I've been trying to get my gf to play for the longest time. Sadly, she got tired of all my friends and me talking about ME2 constantly, so she is hesitant to try it out of spite. Its too bad, I'm sure she'd love it since she's a pretty big Bioware fan otherwise.
Also, her birthday is March 6th, so I'm doubly-screwed.

People who realize that it's stupid to pay for a shitty online service. If the 360 were my only gaming device, I'd gladly pay for LIVE, but since I've also got every other platform available- there's no reason to throw money at Microsoft for a lousy service that I rarely used when I did subscribe to it (over 2 years ago).

@laser beams Opinions are opinions, but unless you're referring to PC (which I imagine you are), XBL is still the best gaming service. It just seems stupid to gripe about the price. I spend as much on one game that I'm skeptical about that turns out crappy.

@MarkezJM Gold is worth the price, if you have the time (or motive) to play games online. I rarely play games online, so PSN's pricetag fits a lot better. I'm not keen on the idea of paying for playing my games online when I might not even have the time to do it for months at a time.
