This is sad news, indeed. But the way they said they wanted to use what they learned with Uncharted makes me think they would've gone away from open-world.

Yes and no. The Last of Us looks to be delivering on my hopes and expectations thanks to ND's expertise.

But then I just sit here, pondering the glorious possibilities that could have come from a Jak and Daxter PS3 game. Maybe they'll change their minds and try one more time after the HD rerelease.

And here's another thought: I'm fairly sure that after all of these years, Nintendo encountered the same problems, encountered them much more than Naughty Dog ever has. I trust ND's judgement, but Nintendo found little a few tricks to allow for PLENTY of refreshing experiences, all the while still meeting the longing of old time fans.

I don't find NIntendo franchises to be fresh. I find them to be more of the same with a small tweak. Sometimes it works but often it doesn't Nintendo still wins out because most people crave the familiarity. Personally, I prefer new franchises like the Last of Us

i couldnt disagree with you anymore. i cant remember how many different ways i could play the old super mario bros game. i mean seriously, level 1-1 has been remade a ridiculous amount of times.

I love how people are downvoting you.

HYPOCRITES!

We want new IPs but when we get them, we complain about not having an old one?

Seriously people?

We all know that Jak will be back. Most likely when they need more guaranteed money. What the hell is wrong with a little break before then filled with other attempts at great games? They're not explicitly saying they're not going to do another Jak game.

Would you rather them ruin it and beat it into the ground?

Seriously...

It doesn't seem as though you're fully aware of what intellectual property is. The Last of Us, as a brand, title, story, universe, etc., is intellectual property. The concept of zombies is commonplace in horror fiction, so it is no one's property - and definitely no one's intellectual property.

It drives me crazy when people conflate IP with game design. My mind is boggled by all of these people who see the post-apocalypse and zombies as "new" ideas.

The Fallout IP didn't stop Bethesda from making an FPS/RPG. We're a long way past the point where IP and design walked hand in hand.

@Warshade It's not a zombie game, it's based on a mutated Cordyceps fungus which is a real thing. It looks to have more in common with I Am Legend and The Road then Dawn of the Dead.

@Kyle4 It's a zombie game. You can come up with all sorts of explanations to differentiate it from Romero zombies, but it's still zombies.

@Icculus If you find and read the latest game informer cover article online, ND says that the fungus-zombies will not be the main focus of the game. Similar to "I Am Alive" the main focus will be interacting with and fighting other non-infected humans. Scans in the link below. Inform yourselves!

Jak and Daxter has yet to appear in a new PS3 game over 5 years into the console's life, but they felt we needed another post-apocalyptic shooter modeled after Left 4 Dead. Don't get me wrong, The Last of Us look decent and Nuaghty Dog is a great team, but they should have gone the other route.

they need to go into jak and his eventual days of becoming Mar - shuld be good
but other than that last of us looks really good and promising, and u can't go too wrong with uncharted so far, can you?

Me too. I'm sure The Last of Us will whoop ass, but J&D could use a revisit. And why worry about Uncharted influence? IMO, we haven't had nearly enough good platformers this generation.

Why don't you just go ahead and say, huh? You're not going to make another Jak game. Using innuendo and ambiguity to toy with people's feelings ain't cool anymore. Valve treats us better than this - at least we know it's coming. I wouldn't mind if Ready At Dawn took over the franchise or Insomniac for that matter. Excuse me...

Yeah, I was always more of a Ratchet and Clank guy myself, but after seeing how Sony has done their best to grind that series into the ground (4 PS2 games, 3.25 PS3 games, and 2 PSP games in 10 years) maybe it's better to just let Jak and Daxter chill for a generation or so.

You know, I'm kind of surprised that Sony's not yet tried to spin-off one of their IPs like Jak or Ratchet into an animated film.

Innuendo
1. An indirect or subtle, usually derogatory implication in expression; an insinuation.
2. Law
a. A plaintiff's interpretation in a libel suit of allegedly libelous or slanderous material.
b. A parenthetic explanation of a word or charge in a legal document.

Even the use as a slang term does not match up...

I think it does not mean what you think it means
