Great game. One of the best racers of last year, IMO - amazing fun and very pretty graphics, some good music. Lots of modes, including Gymkhana which was brilliant. The only negative points from me where the lack of vehicle customisation, you could pick sponsor liveries but that was it. Then again, not every game can be Forza 4.

they ruined the game with DLC - making your progress in career depend on it for getting the 100%.

hopefully they discount the dlc by a lot too.

this shows how dlc is killing games, why buy a game when it first comes out and then spend all the money on dlc if in the end they are just going to put out a much cheaper complete/Game of the year edition? So basically youre spending a whole lot of money to be "first"

You are very correct and I think that people are slowly catching on to the way that this works. Over the last 2 years I have bought maybe a total of 4 games brand new or pre order. I have actually purchased somewhere around 75-100 games if you include all of the indie bundles I've bought. All the games I buy are on sale, I wait till they are DiRT cheap, like $5-$15 cheap. Even games that I really want, I'll wait. For example, I waited a year for DXHR and got it for $16 on sale, one of the best games that I've ever played. Did I miss out on any game play experiencing by not buying it when it was $60? Absolutely not.

On the one hand, it's not exactly supporting the publishers and development houses that I love. On the other hand, they need to stop with the customer unfriendly business practices and BS DLC packs that are nowhere near worth what they are asking for.

yep thats exactly why i still havent purchased arkham city and several other games. i either wait for a price drop, which ALWAYS happens within a month or 2 or just wait for the complete addtion which gets released a year or 2 later for lower than the original price.

I wonder if they are going to release a version of the game that actually works this time. I had an issue with Dirt 3 freezing and not saving progress after every race. According to the users in their forums I wasn't alone either. I don't think Codemasters ever addressed the issue though. I ended up returning it seeing as it was defective. It was a shame because I really wanted to play it too. I don't know that I'll trust another one of their products. It's one thing to release something that doesn't work right but it's just unacceptable to not even try and resolve the issue for their paying customers.

Downvoted for saying RIP to someone after commenting on the article itself? Wow, that says a lot.

Im aware what the site name is. Saying RIP to someone is not meaningless, no matter the site. But I didnt expect anything less from some commenters on here. Ignorance is always the squeaky wheel.

The fact that they are calling it a "Complete Edition" is slightly insulting. They should repackage the original edition as "Incomplete Edition"

changing the name doesn't change what it actually is. sadly that's the state of DLC in games today, release half of a game and then sell the rest of it as a bonus of some sort.

I enjoyed this when I got it last year although I did feel it went a bit over the top with the Gymkhana events where there is a lot of emphasis on them. I'd rather go and watch a load of Ken Block videos on YouTube than that. And the "banter" between your manager, sponsor and mechanic was not necessary. Just race. Perhaps I'm a bit old for this and I do have fond memories of Colin McCrae Rally so perhaps this generation has passed me over. That said, for 40 bones, you can't go wrong with this. Just hope you don't see this one and the arcade style version they are planning on releasing soon, all lumped together for the same price in 6 months.

I personally thought D2 was better. When I realized that they wanted you to "buy" cars,, it really turned me off of the game. DL cars is BS

just my opinion

@Papaspud Agreed. I have Dirt 2 and 3 and while I played and loved Dirt 2, I just couldn't get into 3. I recall them trumping up the "return of rally racing" in dirt 3, but for as long as I played it, it looked to be exactly like Dirt 2's rally racing (single leg runs instead of full, multi-leg runs where you had to keep your nose clean if you wanted to stay fast for the entire thing). After seeing all the reviews and praise it was getting, I thought maybe I was alone!

why can't they just split into two games already, rally in one and everything else in another?

it's like they're try to date two girls at once, which will inevitably blow up in your face and leave you with neither.

p.s. -

dear game developers,

a reverse circuit does not equal two tracks. neither do shortcuts or blocking make for additional tracks.

I agree I didn't buy Fallout New Vegas for this reason and now having waited so long. I'm just going to wait till the GOTY version is on sale, before I pick it up.
The shift to heavy DLC just means I buy less games on their day of release.
