Fresh Far Cry 3 details may cause dizziness, temporary insanity
20
Far Cry 3 will emphasize tactical freedom, but isn't skimping on scripted moments, details from Edge magazine (as spotted by Gaming Everything) reveal. The first glimpse lists the strategic improvisation possibilities, such as tying C4 to a jeep and driving it into an enemy camp, or hang-gliding over entire areas.
The mission Edge played saw the protagonist, Jason Brody, hallucinating while trying to take out enemies. He was still able to stab two guards then throw the knife at another -- something we doubt we could do while (almost) perfectly lucid.
The main antagonist, Vaas, is "a sociopath, and very nearly a psychopath," Edge says, and the Ubisoft development team wants the game to be "emotional and raw" while still remaining a shooter first. There will be no weapon degredation, Gaming Everything adds. Check out the entire run-down of Jason Brody's descent into mushroom madness right here.

I'm liking the way this game is shaping up. Heck, even if it's merely a revamped FC2 with improved graphics and AI I'm game.

Personally I found Farcry 2 to be a huge letdown and didnt apprear to be even related to the original. The only thing that made the game a "Farcry game" was the label. Glad to hear that they are taking it back to the jungle and that the gameplay looks similar to that of the original.

Or, what Battefield fans have been doing since 2005.

I really enjoyed Far Cry 2 despite its frustrations, I hope they recognize how much FC2 did well and are refining it instead of panicking and changing everything...

Ahh Far Cry 2 was fantastic. The feeling of total immersion was the best of any game to date I think. Metro 2033 was pretty good with that too.
Anyway, I just hope FC3 has a realistic bullet damage mode or something close, like hardcore mode in Battlefield. The most frustrating part of that game was unloading an entire clip into a dude with no shirt on and he's still standing. Or burning them in a field and the fire dissipates but he's still coming at ya.
Oh and how the enemies ALWAYS knew where you are no matter how late at night it was or how well you hide.
But still, the game has more pros then cons. The immesion, malaria flare ups, gun jams and blow backs. And the fire looked amazing! Toatlly worth a playthrough.

Please, no malaria flare ups. That was just downright annoying

Level editor please.
I just downloaded Far Cry 2 on PSN (free for PS+ users), and I'm loving how feature rich the level editor is.

I didn't mind the degrading guns, that made sense to have if they were going for realistic. What didn't make sense and what was so frustrating to me that it ultimately led me to get my FPS fix elsewhere was the 5 minute cycle of respawning enemies across the entire map. Either go for a gritty realistic feel with guns that jam, limited ammo and tough AI, but with enemies that stay dead in an area when I spend 10 minutes clearing them out - OR - go for tons of enemies that respawn very frequently, but are easy to mow down. It was definitely a balance issue and it made it super unrewarding to even bother clearing out areas.

I agree. The enemy spawing ruined the game. Far too gamey.
I really don't like the way FPS are heading now where everything is dumbed down to concentrate on arcade head-popping. The weapon degradation in FC2 was too accelerated but weapon jamming and malfunctions due to overuse was a good idea to give the combat more depth and risk.
It also meant finding a shiny new weapon was actually exciting. Otherwise it just becomes like any other game with bad guys dropping identical weapons everywhere.
I miss STALKER, where daily activities had a point and eating and fixing weapons was all part of being a character in the game and good loot was rare and cool to find.

So long as they add a better Save Option for the Console versions Unlike Far Cry 2 I'll give it a go.

I loved Far Cry 2 except for the cheap enemy respawns, I don't like them getting rid of weapon jamming though.

If driving and fighting respawning enemies is as boring as it was in Far Cry 2, I think I'll probably just try shrooms instead of playing this one.

Everytime I see a post like this it makes me feel so bad for giving up on it. That feeling of total immersion is what I want in every game, but I just couldn't get to the nougaty center of Far Cry 2. I really, really wanted to but all the stuff you listed just made it like, unbearable. All that awesome immersion stuff just totally shattered for me any time I had to actually fight anybody. And the driving! Ugh, the driving.

how on earth does one come to hallucinate so heavily? even the few times in my life that i dropped acid, i wasn't seeing skeletons rise up out of the floor and wasn't being chased by cartoon characters or any of that shit. i've read somewhere before that moments before your brain senses death knocking, your body evacuates its supply of DMT (secreted from the penial gland in the brain). DMT is supposedly the strongest hallucinogen known to man, so maybe that's what is causing such vivid hallucinations, but i'm thinking the game designers just wanted to throw in some trippy visuals like every other game that features hallucinations. see: Prey, the recent Batman games, Uncharted 3, etc. etc.
it would be nice if there were a little explanation is all i'm saying. i honestly don't think that, even if you're loony as shit, you're going to hallucinate all the time.
