MechAssault dev Day 1 Studios teases new mech game

Way back in the early days of Xbox Live, there was no online Halo, no Modern Warfare, no Battlefield. No, what you played back then was Day 1 Studios' MechAssault, which came bundled with Xbox Live, and it was glorious. Day 1 has concentrated mainly on the FEAR series for the last few years, but a new trailer teases a return to its mech roots.

Quite literally, actually. Dare we hope for a new MechAssault? An HD re-release? It's anyone's guess at this point but, at the very least, the inclusion of robots seems to be a shoo-in. Whatever the project is, it's slated for 2012.

The sound effects are straight from MechAssault so my money is on another one or at least a remake. :)

@neojames82 What trailer are you watching? There was nothing in this video that had any relationship to Mechassault.

My god did I ever love Mech Assault 2!

*sigh* oOo how i dream of a Mech Assault game using the Frostbite 2 engine. =P Such beautiful destruction would fit perfectly.

Wasn't really a huge fan of mechassault, it felt more like a traditional third person shooter with mech skins instead of a true mech simulator like Mechwarrior

Confirmed. This is why I'm not as excited about hawken as when I first heard of it as well. Mechassault basically put the nail in the coffin for years, only recently has it been stirring.

You hit the nail on the head. However, I know for myself being a Mech fan I still latched on Mechassualt because in the situation I felt beggars can't be choosers.

Hopefully the Mech genre can see a resurrection in the near future.

Why MSFT didnt bring this back sooner is beyond me. Halo 2 did put it on the back burner for most though.

Mechwarrior = Awesome.
Mechassault = Meh.

Never played it online, but I played the single player to death! Looking forward to this.

I'm really ok with this.

I just hope it's closer to the 1st MechAssault game than the 2nd.
Allow a bit more fine control for weapon selection and make it closer to the 4th succession war in terms of tech. Maybe even make the battle persistent in some kind of BF mode.

Then have a Solaris Mode where people can watch battles from 3rd person cameras.

Mechassault was so fun, please don't compare this to MechWarrior. Mechassault was designed to be fast and arcade like, and it was a blast to play online.

Would be awesome if they could Crimson Skies while they're at it.

This cannot be mechassault because they don't own the license.

This is also the closest thing to mechwarrior on console you are going to get because everything else is on PC.

Well for anyone wanting more of a simulator CRISIS WARS Mod Mechwarrior Living legends is still live and kicking, they just released a big patch recently.

No, MechAssault wasn't MechWarrior, but that works both ways. I can't imagine that anyone who actually played both would make the mistake of comparing them. It's like comparing Burnout with Forza. Yes, both are games featuring cars, but the style is so completely different as to render comparison meaningless.

Riverdancing the Catapult after flattening the terrain......Jumping in to sweep a purple or red and unleash on the mech running for it.....Creeping up on someone engaged in battle at the helm of a Loki......
