That was awesome, I've been aching for a Strider game for so long. :(

Why is Capcom so shitty? Why don't they just understand there's still money to be had with older, non-fighting/"survival" genres?

Oh, man. That sucks. I was never that in love with Strider, but a new Streets of Rage game could have been awesome. Granted it also could have turned out like Final Fight: Streetwise, but I choose to be optimistic, especially since it looks like it's never gonna happen now.

A man can dream...

I feel conflicted. These are some of the most loved games from the Genesis days, but after GRIN ruined Bionic Commando, I have little faith that these could be good.

No need to feel conflicted. They're long gone and these games will never see the light of day.

Pretty much what I was thinking too. Couple that with Sega's notorious inability to properly resurrect their Genesis franchises (i.e. Golden Axe, Shinobi, Phantasy Star) and I think maybe the past should stay in the past.

@baby sea tuna What? I think Shinobi and Phantasy Star do pretty well for themselves. They're not prevalent these days but that's not to say that recent iterations of each haven't been good.

Grin also made the awesome Bionic Commando Rearmed. ...about the only good console name to their name.

I don't think they did/do very well commercially, or critically. Especially not compared to previous generation versions, which would explain why SEGA doesn't want to drop the cash to develop them for current platforms. Well, unless you count Shinobi on 3DS, which I assume is significantly cheaper to make than, say, a PS3 version.

Still one of the most tragic studio closures of the last few years. They had a lot of talent and even if they didn't make a lot of blockbusters they had a track record of consistent production value in their games. Still sad about GRIN and Bizarre.

Wow, really? I'd disagree, but GRIN should count their lucky stars that anyone mentioned them in the same breath as a top tier studio like Bizarre.

@baby sea tuna Bionic Commando Rearmed and the PC versions of the GRAW games showed that GRIN was more than capable of making good titles. Whether they should have been entrusted with making high-profile AAA titles is a different matter. They were still pretty young and had a lot to prove, and it's a shame they got shut down before they had a chance to really do much. I blame the fact that they were delegated to basically making licensed titles by the end of their lifespan.

@baby sea tuna Bizarre was a one-trick pony, at least Grin knew had to handle variety. They weren't the best games but you can't say they weren't an ambitious bunch. Good riddance to Bizarre, wasting our shelf space with mediocre "SO FAST" racing games.

@Fadakar

What about Geometry Wars? Or 007: Blood Stone? Or the underrated The Club? Even without those, PGR was a sick enough franchise to float their rep for far longer than it did.

I loved the version of Strider 2 back in 1999. The speed runs were so much fun. I hope Capcom releases a game like that... could fit onto PSN and Xbox Live very easily... 2D gaming FTW

Wasn't there a Strider game that was released under a totally different name?

I never quite understood how GRIN was gaming's golden child all of the sudden. First the news they were going to do a Final Fantasy game, now Strider and Streets of Rage. What did they do earn such respect? Their games ranged from just okay to total crap.

I just want a 2D (even 16-bit retro), sidescrolling, platforming Vectorman 3. Nothing like the cancelled Vectorman game that looked dreadful.

I enjoyed the hell out of Bionic Commando, the "crappy" one. Poop story, great music, great action and a swing system I actually enjoyed mastering. I would have loved to see their take on Strider and Streets of Rage.

I liked it too. Great action, movement, and fantastic epic music. My only beef was the "final boss fight" ending clearly signified "OH NOES WE RAN OUT OF $$$!"

Good thing they aren't working on them any more. I'd hate to see other modern-day revivals of classic games from them after Bionic Commando.

Based on the teaser, I like the thought of a new, updated Strider.

I'd rather see Griptonite or Wayforward give Strider a proper 2D revival.

That teaser for an updated Strider just looks awesome. Hopefully, the final game would have added a stealth element to the game.

It probably would have been very weird though and invisible walls would have killed you.

I thought Capcom didn't want to make a Strider game because they have to pay Studio Motomiya Kikaku if they did?
