Sony's Eric Lempel said the company "wanted to show our appreciation" for users' patience after last month's PSN outage, which saw services like the Store and online multiplayer go AWOL. Both PSN and Microsoft's Xbox Live service went offline on Christmas Eve following distributed denial of service attacks.
Sony said it's automatically adding the five days of extra Plus (or plus-Plus) to all members who had an active subscription or free trial on Christmas Day. The extension isn't available yet, but once it's live Sony plans to have more details up on the PlayStation Blog.
As for the 10 percent off, it's good for a "one-time discount off a total cart purchase" in the PS Store. In other words, if you're itching for a new year PSN spending spree then just wait it out a little longer. Sony's making the code available for a limited time later this month.
