And all went to be rocked, every one into his own iTunes account. And Chris Grant also went up unto the city to be taxed with Ludwig Kietzmann, his espoused co-host, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there he should be delivered. And he brought forth their firstborn podcast, and wrapped it in swaddling jokes, and laid it in a Zune; because there was no room for them in the iPod. And there were in the same country gamers abiding in the field, keeping watch over their ... games by night. And, lo, the angel who was named Justin McElroy came upon them, and the glory of video games shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day a savior, which is the Joystiq Podcast."</itunes:summary><itunes:category text="Games & Hobbies"><itunes:category text="Video Games" /></itunes:category>

Joystiq Podcast 117 - Call of Warfare edition

We've finally ditched the game talk in an effort to accommodate our beloved host. This week, it's just carpentry talk, with all the drill bit and sandpaper news you crave.

If you're more interested in DJ Hero, Assassin's Creed 2 and Modern Warfare 2 chat, we might be able to squeeze in a few minutes for that too. Maybe. And thanks to Evan Hodgins for helping us to celebrate Movember, which we would otherwise be genetically unable to do.

It's our angriest podcast yet as we argue about the merits of this console generation, Brutal Legend, Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed II (barely) and the films of Gary Ross. Plus, as a special bonus, we mention having giveaway bags of Blueberry Muffin Tops cereal but completely forget to give them away. So, we'll do it right here.

Comment below with your thoughts on the podcast and you could win a Brush With Fame and some of the greatest cereal on the face of the earth. Oh, and thanks to Alan Black for his eco-friendly photoshop.

After weeks of separation and bad connections, the three regulars are together once again. We, of course, decided to mark the occasion by talking about our favorite hobbies, beloved candy bars and the swine flu.

Video games are also (briefly) mentioned, but -- whenever possible -- only in the context of our other three topics. It's a great episode. We're also giving away a copy of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and a secret bonus game. Thanks to our horrifyingly talented photoshopper Alan Black.

Chris is out with a flu of curiously porcine proportions and Justin is in a country with even worse internet connectivity than Ludwig's. Of course, that leaves only Ludwig ... lucky for you, he's bolstered the show with the contributions of Griffin McElroy and the omnipresent Tom Chick, video game freelancer extraordinaire. Mr Chick is perhaps best known for his cameo on Joystiq Podcast 113, where he (inadvertently) played the role of "Games Reviewer We Disagreed With Regarding Uncharted 2." Tune in for the thrilling confrontation!

The fall onslaught is fully upon us, and we've got some big discussions for all the big games. So, if you've had a hankering for our take on Brütal Legend, Uncharted 2 or Axel and Pixel, you should already be downloading. Also, we've got the first fake Visceral games and they are a-mazing.

Thanks to Alan Black for following our photoshopping protocol.

A true trans-global podcast this week, as we record from two separate Third World countries to bring you the latest in gaming news. What better place could there be? We're talking about Wet, Jump! and other games that don't sound dirty when you put them next to each other.

Oh, and thanks to your friend and ours Tyler Miller for the socially diverse photoshop.
Things are a little different this week: Justin's on his way to Honduras (true story!) and Ludwig is at a South African gaming expo (no, seriously) so Chris is joined by Joystiq's own Griffin McElroy and Dave Hinkle for what's sure to be remembered as the Most Important Joystiq Podcast Ever. Why? Because we talk about major flaws affecting every major gaming platform, Billy Ocean, Blast Corps, and getting served.

Big thanks to podcast art perennial Alan Black for this week's pic. We've bridged 13 time zones to bring you this particular edition of the Joystiq Podcast, with our own Ludwig Kietzmann reporting direct from the Tokyo Game Show. That means he's played and seen a ton of things you haven't (like Assassin's Creed 2 and Halo Legends) and can't wait to talk about them.

Plus, we've got Halo 3: ODST discussion and we're giving away Need For Speed: Shift on the 360 (but you have to take a signed copy of Puffins: Island Adventure with it). Listen in to find out how you can win! Oh, and thanks to Mike Santos for the historically accurate photoshop. [Update: Congrats to our winner, @jeffbergkamp!]
We know we're always saying that we've got a good Joystiq Podcast for you, but this week we can actually say it with a straight face. With the team reunited after a two-week break, we've plenty to talk about from a visit from not-Courtney Love to a truly magical Tip of the Week filled with love and loss.

We're talking about games too, including The Beatles: Rock Band, Champions Online and some Section 8. You knew they'd be back, right? Chris Grant, Big Kev, Dick Mitchell and Little Ditto huddle once more around the m-i-c to bring you all the comings and goings from the PAX show floor as well as impressions of Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain and Brink and many others.

P.S. Against our better judgment, we auto-tuned the intro. Again.
Sure, there's more Batman: Arkham Asylum, you have to expect that. But there's also price drop talk, a first-hand account of GamesCom madness from our own Alexander Sliwinski, some sad news for Maxis and, of course, your emails and voicemails.

And sorry to disappoint, but we skip the Megan Fox story. All apologies. On a happier note, you have the amazing Zachary Tuttle to thank for this week's podcast art, the larger version of which you can find right here.
The most shocking thing about the episode is not the introduction of the Joystiq emergency hotline or our on-site report from BlizzCon. No, the most shocking thing is that we somehow avoid talking about how much we love Batman: Arkham Asylum for the full two hours. Spoiler alert: Very much.

Also, shaving is discussed in detail.

Get the podcast:
[iTunes] Subscribe to the Joystiq Podcast in iTunes
[Zune] Subscribe to the Joystiq Podcast directly in the Zune Marketplace
[RSS] Add the Joystiq Podcast feed to your RSS aggregator
[MP3] Download the MP3 directly

Hosts: Christopher Grant, Justin McElroy and Ludwig Kietzmann

Music: "Gravity (Don't Let Me Go)" by Jon Black, "Red Eye" by Ben Kweller

For fans: Joystiq Podcast Facebook group

The Do It Line!: 1-(877)-JOYSTIQ

See all of this week's links (and what games we played) after the jump.
Continue reading Joystiq Podcast 106 - Crackpot or crockpot edition

Joystiq Podcast 106 - Crackpot or crockpot edition originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 21 Aug 2009 17:15:00 EST. We're back with another podcast, and a surprisingly full one for the middle of summer. We've got impressions of The Beatles: Rock Band, Trials HD and as much Shadow Complex as we can talk about and Justin does a really bad job of explaining Spider. Then, towards the end, a brief visit from a special guest.

Oh, and a fairly drunk voice mail or two. Naturally. And, of course, thanks to the amazing Alan Black for the upsetting photoshop.

[Update: If you've had trouble downloading the podcast, you should try again. Well, it's not live, but this new episode of the Joystiq Podcast is definitely worth your time. We've got discussion of Batman: Arkham Asylum and the Scribblenauts debacle, a special guest, a code for a free copy of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and the greatest email in the history of emails, so you won't want to miss that. Also, now that girls play games, we have one of those too.

So, what are you waiting for? Go feed your ear holes. Oh, and thanks to Alan Black for the totally illegal photochopping.

Continue reading Joystiq Podcast 104 - PG edition

Joystiq Podcast 104 - PG edition originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 07 Aug 2009 15:14:00 EST.
