LittleBigPlanet 2
How fitting that for my last contribution to Joystiq's Game of the Year list, I should learn the bitter sting of having my number one choice not breach the Top 10. LittleBigPlanet 2 improved upon the original -- already one of my favorite games of all time -- in every conceivable way, offering one of the most user-friendly, charming UGC systems in gaming history. There is nothing I've thought of that LBP2 wasn't able to create, and that includes a level about interstellar poultry abduction.
Continue reading Best of the Rest: Griffin's picks of 2011

Best of the Rest: Griffin's picks of 2011 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 04 Jan 2012 19:00:00 EST.

It's a crying shame that, for the uninitiated masses, Dark Souls will primarily be remembered for its considerable difficulty. It's an absolutely true shame, of course. To my recollection, no other game's punishment caused my brother to literally break a controller in a fit of rage, delete his save and write a chart-topping tribute song before his hatred could subside.

It's not all death and discouragement, however. Though every twist and turn of Dark Souls' menacing and lovely locales plays host to a preset lineup of fiends (many of whom can kill you with a sideways glance), there is a strange progress to the proceedings. It may come after hours of un-progress, but it comes -- and when it does, it comes correct.

Self-improvement in games typically comes in forms that are mechanical (you level up and gain five magic points!) or educational (now you know where the spike traps are). Dark Souls' core tenet of repetitious short-burst failure paired with a wildly open-ended RPG character progression system blends both methods perfectly. What's more, it offers an intensely terrifying risk/reward system for ever-precious Souls; fortunately, your Brains are never jeopardized.
Continue reading Joystiq Top 10 of 2011: Dark Souls

Joystiq Top 10 of 2011: Dark Souls originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 02 Jan 2012 01:30:00 EST. Nintendo, Electronic Arts and Sony Electronics have apparently followed the example of Microsoft and the Business Software Alliance, and have removed their corporate monikers from the list of supporters for the increasingly unpopular Stop Online Piracy Act. None of the three companies have commented on why they reversed their position on the controversial bill, but we imagine its because endorsing it makes the internet pretty angry with you. When asked, EA corporate told Joystiq this afternoon, "EA never expressed a position for or against SOPA." Sony and Nintendo had yet to respond as of publishing.

Note that not all of Sony's miscellaneous branches have rescinded their support, as Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Music Nashville still appear on the list. Also, the Entertainment Software Association is still shown as a supporter -- an organization which the aforementioned publishers (among others) belong to. Whether the group will remain on an endorsement list which exactly zero of its members appear on remains to be seen.
Nintendo, EA and Sony also rescind SOPA support originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 30 Dec 2011 18:40:00 EST. If you're a stone-cold psychopath whose masochistic gaming tendencies push you away from ... well, normal-people games and into the cold embrace of impossible games, then the unavailability of an English port for Takeshi's Challenge has probably been a sore point for you. We probably shouldn't encourage your self-destruction, but you should know that a few kind souls have translated the bizarre NES title for your localized enjoyment.

The localization comes from ROM modder KingMike (via Tiny Cartridge). Before looking into acquiring the game, though, we'd suggest you also find an English language strategy guide to help you, because this game was made by the Devil.
One of the hardest NES games ever translated to English originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 29 Dec 2011 03:15:00 EST. During a recent Nippon Ichi press conference, CEO Sohei Shinkawa announced a handful of projects the company is working on for the immediate future. The first likely won't require all that much actual work -- it's Cave Story 3D, which the company is publishing in Japan. He added that two other projects are in the pipeline: A new adventure game scheduled for a Japanese Summer 2012 launch, and a dungeon-centric RPG from the Disgaea team due out sometime in 2012.

During a later Q&A, Shinkawa revealed that the company would like to release at least one Vita title next year, but did not confirm whether either of the newly announced projects would be that title. Shinkawa also revealed all this information while wearing a Prinny-shaped hat, so we're not sure we can believe a single thing he said.
Disgaea team crafting a dungeon RPG for 2012, Nippon Ichi announces more originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 28 Dec 2011 11:30:00 EST. We're rarely brought to tears by displays of holiday-themed lighting strewn across the face of a residential building. Then again, most holiday lights aren't synchronized to the totally radical theme to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Fortunately, some are -- like the one seen in the video above.
Synchronized Skyrim light show knows the reason for the season originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 27 Dec 2011 15:45:00 EST. You UK residents are such a lucky lot. Not only do you get all the episodes of Doctor Who way, way earlier than us Americans, you'll also get a chance to play the PS Vita before us, too. Check out the full list of PS Vita Room events after the jump, as well as all the games featured therein.
Continue reading PSA: Here's where UK residents can play the Vita early

PSA: Here's where UK residents can play the Vita early originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 26 Dec 2011 20:00:00 EST. According to a recent Nikkei report, Nintendo will introduce paid downloadable content to its games for the first time in recorded human history next March, with the release of Fire Emblem for the 3DS. The price of this expansion will apparently be "several hundred yen," and that it -- and other DLC on the company's platforms -- won't make it any easier for players to make their way through Nintendo's games, which probably weren't very difficult to begin with.

Nikkei also reported that the Wii U will also play home to downloadable add-ons, but said nothing about the still-to-come library of the Wii, which -- well, in order to release expansions for something, you first need something to expand upon.
Nikkei: Paid DLC coming to 3DS starting with new Fire Emblem originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 26 Dec 2011 15:30:00 EST. Is there a Martha Stewart Living for Nerds monthly periodical we never knew about? We're all about games and interior decorations, but we don't know how one learns to combine those two with such grace and ease as this, the greatest Christmas tree ever, and perhaps the greatest tree ever. Behold: The Portal Christmas tree, the full glory of which can be seen after the jump.

We're typically ones to pull down (and mulch) our arboreal holiday decor on December the 26th, but we don't know that we'd ever be able to part with a tree this magical. We'd leave it up, explaining to visitors that, oh, this is our Valentine's Day tree, and also our Easter tree, and Flag Day tree, and so on.
Continue reading Portal Christmas tree doubles our holiday cheer

Portal Christmas tree doubles our holiday cheer originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 26 Dec 2011 14:00:00 EST. We were starting to think we'd make it through the rest of the year without once again worrying about having our social security numbers stolen, Tweeted and written in the sky. How foolish of us! Trion Worlds has announced on its blog it "recently discovered that unauthorized intruders gained access to a Trion Worlds account database," a list which included "user names, encrypted passwords, dates of birth, email addresses, billing addresses, and the first and last four digits and expiration dates of customer credit cards."

Trion added there's no evidence that credit card info was taken, and that the company has "taken further action to strengthen our systems, even as we, with external security experts, continue to research the extent of the unauthorized access." In the meantime, Trion game users will want to change their password, which they'll be prompted to do the next time they try to log in to the company's site, or one of its titles.

We'd also suggest that Trion change its logo, because that open-door-looking letter "I" is starting to seem a tad prophetic.

Trion Worlds database hacked, 'no evidence' of credit card info stolen originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 23 Dec 2011 20:45:00 EST. When a game publisher closes a door, they always open a window -- unless, of course, they're cancelling the game, in which case they always burn the whole house down. This idiom now applies directly to the release of Namco's Ridge Racer for the PS Vita which, according to the recently revealed PlayStation Blog line-up, has been pushed from the list of "launch day" releases to the list of "launch window" releases.

What's that mean for the fate of the title? Well, it could still mean that it's coming to the states alongside the console on February 22, but that Namco Bandai is playing it safe with the new terminology. In all likelihood, however, it means the game's been delayed beyond the console's due date. We've contacted the publisher for a clarification.
Ridge Racer Vita moved from launch day to 'launch window' originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 23 Dec 2011 05:45:00 EST. A recently posted Kickstarter campaign for an iPad adventure game titled The Last Sleeper is just chock-full of surprises. For instance, this game we've never heard of looks absolutely gorgeous: It's a lovingly illustrated sci-fi game which "relies on the seamless integration of sound, image, and touch." We were pretty sure that same logic applies to all smartphone-based games -- but hey, who are we to judge when the pictures look this pretty?

Another surprise comes from the development team's roster, a list which includes Gears of War 3 composer Steve Jablonsky, Lord of the Rings sound designer Ethan Van Der Ryn and, perhaps most surprising, Halo 4 producer and designer Kendall Davis.

Together, they form Black Gold Studio. The team appears in the resume of freelance artist Rasmus Berggreen, whose curriculum vitae seems to suggest that the title will be published by Bungie Aerospace. Of course, given that the team is seeking funds from Kickstarter, it's possible that said partnership is over or still in the works. Check out the game's Kickstarter page for a full list of its esteemed creators, as well as some background info on its heady plot.
Former Halo 4 producer working on artsy iPad adventure 'The Last Sleeper' originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 22 Dec 2011 19:00:00 EST. Well, we're all screwed. The annual Steam holiday deals have gone live, discounting ... let's just say "all the games" to be efficient, okay? All the games are discounted, as are a bunch of humongous packs which similarly include all the games, and, if that weren't enough, Steam is giving away free games to folks who play other games. Congratulations! We all get more games than any of us could ever hope to play in our lifetimes.

Those free games are earned by completing a series of in-game objectives which cycle everyday until January 1. Completing them either gets you a freebie off the "Great Gift Pile" or a lump of coal, seven of which can also be traded in for an actual gift. Alternatively, you could save your lumps up -- each counts as an entry into a Steam sweepstakes, the grand prize for which is every game on Steam ever. Seriously, that's not hyperbole. The prize is every game.
Steam's Holiday Sale discounts everything ever, gives gifts, games and coal originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 19 Dec 2011 15:30:00 EST. Aside from the usual inscrutable plot points and familiar Disney characters with unfamiliar Japanese voices, the Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance trailer above has a lot going for it. Namely, eight whole minutes of keyblades and keyblade-based combat.
Get your keyblade fix with this 8 minute long Kingdom Hearts 3D trailer originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 19 Dec 2011 14:00:00 EST. You know who we'd like to see featured in the hit television program Dirty Jobs? The guy who's responsible for making this Left 4 Dead Boomer action figure. Just think: Some poor soul at NECA not only had to mold this fully articulated, pustule-covered monster -- they had to paint on his every blemish, scab and scar. There is no amount of money high enough to merit such attention to nastiness.

We won't be able to get our hands on this figure (and others from the zombie-centric hit) until next Spring, but you can be sure that when we do, our hands will be safely enveloped by gloves. Check him out in all his oozing glory after the jump.
Continue reading Left 4 Dead's Boomer action figure is pretty gnarly

Left 4 Dead's Boomer action figure is pretty gnarly originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 16 Dec 2011 18:20:00 EST. Can't make it out to the Sundance film festival to check out the world premiere of the crowdsource-funded documentary Indie Game: The Movie? There's no need to worry, assuming you can score passes to SXSW instead; the film will have a showing at the SXSW ScreenBurn Arcade (March 9 - 11) and SXSW Film (March 9 - 17) next year (clap, clap, clap, clap) deep in the heart of Austin, Texas.

The conference will also host a panel presented by IG:TM creators James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot, along with Phil Fish, the creator of Fez, one of the titular indie games. The whole thing is so full-circular, we might just faint.
Indie Game: The Movie showing at SXSW, creators hosting panel originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 16 Dec 2011 16:20:00 EST. Much like the stalwart scientist behind the informative BlendTec "Will it Blend" video series, the I am Alive trailer above has a number of helpful, healthful tips for you to follow if you want to survive in a ruined city. The Little Big Bunch, a Humble Indie Bundle-esque collection of games from UK-based developers, is available right this hot second. The collection includes Explodemon, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, Frozen Synapse, Serious Sam Double D and New Star Soccer 5 -- all five of which are yours at a price point of your choosing.

Much like the Humble series, shoppers can choose which portion of their donation goes to the developers, and what part goes to GamesAid, which then gives the funds to a number of charitable organizations. It's a great cause supporting great games, which we think is just great.
PSA: UK indie games bundle 'Little Big Bunch' out now originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 15 Dec 2011 23:00:00 EST. You probably don't think of seals of being particularly forceful, unless of course you're speaking about the raw, unimaginable power of the human-being Seal's "Kiss from a Rose." That's probably because you haven't been introduced to Seal Force, a line-drawing iOS and Android title from the makers of Pigs in Trees.

The conceit is simple, using a team of seals (the animal, that is), players must charge through crowds of multicolored krill, preventing them from slipping through their amphibious ranks. Speaking of "ranks," players will also be able to level up and earn upgrades for each seal as they complete Jetpack Joyride-esque challenges. The game is free, but if you're still not sold on it the Saturday morning cartoon trailer above might just tug on the correct series of your heartstrings.
Seal Force (as in the semi-aquatic mammals) free on iOS/Android today originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 15 Dec 2011 19:30:00 EST. This news will surely delight fans of the surprisingly swell Naruto Shippuden series, the whole Naruto franchise, fans of the month of March and fans of ostentatiously long video game monikers.

The title will not only feature the same over-the-top combat of its predecessors, but also some sort of collectible trading card game mechanics woven into the core campaign. Personally, we love the juxtaposition of furious punching and kicking, followed by the thoughtful tapping of ancient martial arts mana cards.
Continue reading Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations coming in March

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations coming in March originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 15 Dec 2011 18:00:00 EST. Amazon's got an enticing offer going for new adopters of the $399 Xbox 360 Kinect bundle: For a limited time, anyone who grabs the package will also grab a complimentary $75 Amazon credit. That's more than enough for a new game, and then ... something else that costs $15.
Continue reading Amazon passing out $75 credit with $399 Kinect bundle

Amazon passing out $75 credit with $399 Kinect bundle originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 15 Dec 2011 14:30:00 EST. As promised, Rockstar's mobile version of its seminal open-world crime sim, Grand Theft Auto 3: 10 Year Anniversary Edition, has arrived on iOS and select Android platforms. It's awfully difficult to tell a pirate to be on time for anything, let alone the release of a video game in which they're the featured players. Case in point: When we heard the original 2012 launch window of Piranha Bytes' buccaneering RPG Risen 2: Dark Waters, we asked very politely that it show up in the first month of the aforementioned year. It is not so, according to a recent press release from publisher Deep Silver, which dates the game for April 24 in the U.S., and April 27 in Europe.

That gives us four whole months to come up with clever, piratical puns to make in our review of the title. So far, all we've got is "Yo-Ho-Ho and a Bottle of Fun," but that's going to be entirely dependent on the game actually being a bottle of fun.
Continue reading Risen 2: Dark Waters launching cannons in late April

Risen 2: Dark Waters launching cannons in late April originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 15 Dec 2011 07:15:00 EST. The multiplayer component of Max Payne 3 is shaping up to be absolutely insane, provided the oodles of ambition outlined in this recent IGN preview is fully realized. The competitive branch of the game will focus on "Gang War" mode, an objective-based team mode which sees player's goals change dynamically based on the events of the previous round. For instance, the player with the most kills in the last round may have a bounty on their head in the following match, while a certain territory your team stole in the previous game will have to be fended off in future encounters.

Players will customize their loadouts using Bursts -- usable perks which become more powerful the longer the player goes without using them. These include intriguing abilities like Paranoia, which makes the opposing team see their teammates as enemies, simultaneously enabling friendly fire. There's also the series' trademark Bullet Time, which works by slowing down foes caught in the user's line of sight. Check out IGN for more info about how Multi-Max's abilities break down.
Max Payne 3 multiplayer to have 'Gang War' narrative, Bullet Time originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 14 Dec 2011 16:45:00 EST. Admit it: Your flair for fashion, design and symmetry has prevented you from fully appreciating the gold-colored Wii Remote Plus that came bundled with special edition versions of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Hey, we're not judging! Take one look at our wardrobe and you'll know our meticulous approach to color coordination. We're here to tell you there's a solution to your dilemma -- Japanese Club Nintendo members can now spend their hard-earned credits on an equally golden Wii Nunchuck.

The faux-metallic peripheral will run you 600 Points, while the other new addition to the rewards catalog -- a 3DS game case which holds up to 18 titles -- will cost you 150 Points. You can check out the new Nunchuck in the image posted above; just try not to let the shameful color mismatching get to you. We've contacted Nintendo to see if these new products are coming stateside.
Get a golden nunchuck to go with your golden Wiimote from Japan's Club Nintendo originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 14 Dec 2011 14:45:00 EST. The full transcript of Wired's interview with Shigeru Miyamoto -- in which the industry legend triggered some panic over his future -- has been posted. Surprisingly, that pseudo-retirement news isn't even the juiciest angle; Miyamoto also discussed the company's troubled recent past, as well as its potentially Miyamoto-less future.

He explained that Nintendo's goals this generation have focused on "the expanding of the gaming population," a task which would seemingly put them at odds with the ever-increasing smartphone market. Miyamoto posits that his company isn't "directly competing" with phones; rather, both might just have increased the size of the gaming market, and "expanded the definition of videogames" themselves.

In the more recent past (last week, in fact), Nintendo launched the Retro-developed Mario Kart 7 for 3DS, a project which Miyamoto said succeeded due to its multicultural development approach. "We were able to join forces in order to realize a variety of different courses, a variety of different tastes," he explained. "I think that's one reason how it worked out well between a Japanese development team and a Western development team."

It seems Retro has earned the games industry maven's trust, as Miyamoto added, "As you know, we have already collaborated with Retro for the Metroid Prime series in the past. And I think when we talk about any other franchise, Zelda might be a possible franchise for that collaboration." We think we speak for everyone when we shout in support of this idea while doing fist pumps into the air. Check out the full interview for more on the future of Zelda, the 3DS, the Wii U and the other pies Miyamoto's got his fingers in.
Miyamoto: Retro could handle a Zelda game, smartphones aren't competition originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 14 Dec 2011 12:15:00 EST. Are the instructional tunes included in Ubisoft's Rocksmith proving too easy for your Malmsteem-esque digits? Don't rub it in -- instead, download and subsequently be punished by the Megadeth tracks which will be released today on PlayStation Network and tomorrow on Xbox Live. Folks with the patience and superhuman dexterity required to do so can now learn to shred through "Hangar 18", "Public Enemy No. 1", and "Symphony of Destruction."
There's been a lot of talk lately about new and bold MMOs, ones which feature angel-people, Jedi and pandas. But what about games that feature real-ass gaming industry visionaries operating under a pseudonym? More specifically: What about Lord British? His reign may not have come to an end quite yet: In an interview with Eurogamer, Richard Garriott explained that he's currently talking to EA about publishing a new entry in the Ultima Online franchise.

"I would love to have access to the Ultima property," Garriott explained. "We've had discussions at very high levels with Electronic Arts about access to the property." He explained that "counter-forces" at the company have been hesitant about such an undertaking, adding, "So far we've not put a deal together, but of course, yeah, I would be very open to it." Check out the full interview for what Garriott has in mind besides medieval real estate and spaceships.

Update: EA head of corporate communications Jeff Brown recently contradicted Garriott's statements to IndustryGamers, explaining, "I'm not sure what Richard Garriott is referring to. But no one at EA is discussing partnership or licensing opportunities related to the Ultima Online franchise."

A spokesperson for Garriott further clarified, "Richard is not CURRENTLY having conversations at high levels with Electronic Arts regarding the Ultima franchise. He never said that he is. I can assure you, however, that those conversations have taken place in the past." This seemingly contradicts Garriott's sentiment that "We're in discussions with Electronic Arts even now about a possible marketing and distribution relationships and things of this nature," though we suppose he could have been talking about his Ultimate Collector project, the title of which does start with "Ultima."

Garriott talking with EA about Ultima Online 2 [update: apparently not] originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 13 Dec 2011 23:31:00 EST. As if you didn't already have enough fantastic games to play from this past year, the Humble Indie Bundle crew have made it their mission to completely overwhelm you with excellence. The fourth and latest package from the altruistic organization features an unparalleled lineup which includes Super Meat Boy, BIT.TRIP.RUNNER, Jamestown, Nightsky and Shank -- are and if you beat the average price with your choose-your-own-donation-level, you'll also grab Gratuitous Space Battles and Cave Story+. Note that all of these are PC, Mac and Linux compatible; a new feature for Jamestown and Shank.

As always, you can choose which portion of your donations go to the developers, to the charities (Child's Play and the Red Cross!) and to the Humble Indie Bundle platform itself. We think we speak for everyone when we say that this is an insane value that you'd be insane to pass up, you insane person.
[Update: Tim Ambrogi from Philly-based Jamestown-dev Final Form Games told us, "It's been our goal since launch to reach as many gamers as possible, so a Mac and Linux port were always our plan if we could afford the resources to develop them. It's time to put your regimented dragon-killing schedule on hold for a while, replacing it completely with an all new Jedi-killing routine -- early access for Star Wars: The Old Republic opens up today. If you pre-ordered the game through a traditional retailer or virtually through Origin, you'll be able to hop into the game today; assuming you're lucky enough to be a part of one of the waves of entrants BioWare is letting in, periodically, until the game's official December 20 launch.

The game can't allow everyone in all at once, probably because it would crush the servers like the windpipe of a Death Star insubordinate. Persistence should win you your prize, though. Well, persistence, and a pre-order code, and a monthly subscription.
Star Wars: The Old Republic early access starts today originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 13 Dec 2011 12:00:00 EST. Usually, we receive a bit of lead time when it comes to release date announcements. "Oh, that game you're looking forward to," it usually goes, "that one won't be out til Q3 2014." We all know that anything past next spring is practically forever away -- fortunately, Mojang has announced that the excellent-looking Cobalt is going to drop this coming Friday, God willing and the creek don't rise.

"We haven't told anyone [about the release date] yet because we're aiming for Friday, but we don't know if we can make it," managing director Carl Manneh told Edge Online in a recent interview, "but I think we can." We do too, Carl. We believe in you.
Mojang aiming to publish Oxeye's 'Cobalt' on Friday originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 13 Dec 2011 00:30:00 EST. The latest Indie Royale bundle has more than enough holiday cheer to warm the deepest, darkest cockles of your heart-meat. The "Xmas Bundle" nets its purchasers six games for the price of ... well, a street vendor hot dog -- there's the remastered Blackwell Trilogy (which is technically three games, right?), the Source-powered Dino D-Day, the topical sim The Oil Blue and the effortlessly delightful Eets.

The whole bundle's currently available (at the time of this writing) for $3.80 -- a price which will increase as time goes on, but decrease if purchasers pay more than the minimum amount. Act fast! Or, for our sakes, act charitable.
Indie Royale Xmas Bundle has Eets, Dino D-Day and more originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 12 Dec 2011 22:00:00 EST. Good news, soldiers: The multiplayer component of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has received its sixth title update since the game's launch; a patch which addresses lag and a number of glitches players have been exploiting for their own nefarious, personal gain. Gone are the days of melee-jumping, as well as clan tags which use the controller's symbols to spell dirty words. (Bal[LS] indeed, sir.)

A number of guns have also been tweaked (see: nerfed) as hotfixes introduced to the title. You can check out a full list of these readjusted armaments after the jump, and pray that your precious, precious firearm evaded the developers' all-seeing eye.
Continue reading Modern Warfare 3 update addresses lag, certain glitches

Modern Warfare 3 update addresses lag, certain glitches originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 12 Dec 2011 20:30:00 EST. If you are enthralled by the addictive world of high-stakes gambling and the even-more-addictive world of social games, Namco Bandai has a soul-crushingly-addictive announcement for you. According to Siliconera, the publisher's Tales series of role-playing games is making the jump to the free-to-play browser-based realm with Tales of the World: Dice Adventure.

The game, which will hit Japanese browsers next Spring, will let players team up with characters from the prolific Tales series, assumedly entering into games of chance using numbered cubes. (Or numbered Icosahedrons, if they go the Dungeons and Dragons route.) Little else is known about the title -- until Namco reveals more information, the whole thing is going to be a crapshoot.
Namco's Tales series going on a browser-based 'Dice Adventure' originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 12 Dec 2011 15:30:00 EST. Well, we just watched the last ten minutes of The Rundown, which means -- what else? -- we're watching Spike TV. That means two things: The VGAs are about to come on, and Sean William Scott just cut off a little piece of our soul, and devoured it wholesale.

Ladies and gentlemen: The Spike 2011 VGAs. Let's do this thing.
The broad, early 2012 launch window of the pretty little Half-Life 2 mod-turned-full Steam game Dear Esther has been narrowed down to a sleek, streamlined release date. The game's official website just announced the title will arrive on Steam February 14 -- that's Valentine's Day, lovers -- for a cool $10. Or a hot $10, or any other temperature bill you feel like forking over.
