When it comes to Mario Kart, you can always count on two things. The first: an overabundance of "Nintendo Fairness," wherein race-leaders endure firestorms of powerful item attacks, while lagging competitors are showered with said items -- and brandish them with reckless abandon. This inexorably results in an embattled first-place spot, and guarantees even the least-competent players a decent shot at claiming a last-second lead.<br />
<br />
The 3D-powered Mario Kart 7 thankfully dials this down a bit from the artificial-fairness excess last seen in Mario Kart Wii, but damn, is it ever annoying. I've learned to live with this, though.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-kart-7-10-6-11/">Mario Kart 7 (10/6/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-kart-7-10-6-11/#4507130"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/i31108_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-kart-7-10-6-11/#4507137"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/i31109_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-kart-7-10-6-11/#4507142"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/i31110_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-kart-7-10-6-11/#4507147"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/i31111_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-kart-7-10-6-11/#4507152"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/i31112_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/15/mario-kart-7s-impressive-commitment-to-community/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mario Kart 7's impressive commitment to community</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/15/mario-kart-7s-impressive-commitment-to-community/">Mario Kart 7's impressive commitment to community</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Nov 2011 19:00:00 EST. I'm not the world's biggest Marvel vs. Capcom fan -- I prefer Street Fighter's comparatively slow-and-steady pace to what I often describe as "a bunch of insane stuff flying all over the screen for the entire match" -- but one particular addition to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's roster has me excited. The character in question: None other than ace attorney Phoenix Wright, who's made the jump from his own niche Nintendo DS courtroom adventure series to one of Capcom's biggest fighting game franchises.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/">Ulimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (10/31/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/#4571157"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/gamersdayscreen01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/#4571158"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/gamersdayscreen02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/#4571159"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/gamersdayscreen03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/#4571160"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/gamersdayscreen04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ulimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-10-31-11/#4571161"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/gamersdayscreen05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/02/cross-examining-phoenix-wright-in-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cross-examining Phoenix Wright in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/02/cross-examining-phoenix-wright-in-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3/">Cross-examining Phoenix Wright in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Nov 2011 09:00:00 EST. Capcom's upcoming fantasy role-playing game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dragons-dogma"><em>Dragon's Dogma</em></a> isn't interesting at all. It might not even be good.<br />
<br />
Writers in the gaming press have a tendency to go easy on in-development games. Readers love jumping to conspiracy-theory conclusions about our positivity but, the truth is, we want games to be good and interesting just as much as you do. And so we give them the benefit of the doubt when we write our previews. So what's different with <em>Dragon's Dogma</em>?<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-10-31-2011/">Dragon's Dogma 10/31/2011</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-10-31-2011/#4570379"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/untitled-4.avi000042050_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-10-31-2011/#4570380"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/untitled-4.avi000042050p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-10-31-2011/#4570381"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/untitled-4.avi000044233_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-10-31-2011/#4570382"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/untitled-4.avi000044233p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-10-31-2011/#4570383"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/untitled-4.avi000102833p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/31/breaking-down-capcoms-dragons-dogma-press-demo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Breaking down Capcom's Dragon's Dogma press demo</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/31/breaking-down-capcoms-dragons-dogma-press-demo/">Breaking down Capcom's Dragon's Dogma press demo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 31 Oct 2011 11:20:00 EST.
