<em>DmC </em>and <em>Enslaved</em> developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ninja-theory">Ninja Theory</a> revealed its latest project this morning, an iOS and Android free-to-play brawler called <em>Fightback</em>. The game is being published by EA subsidiary Chillingo, which says it has a "a striking 80s action movie vibe."<br />
<br />
Going by this screenshot, <em>Fightback</em> is a skils-orientated, side-scrolling beat-em-up. The meter at the bottom indicates a three-star score based on points accumulated by skill moves like 'Skull Splitter' - think <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/bulletstorm"><em>Bulletstorm</em></a>, perhaps, but with more punches and kicks, and maybe a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/far-cry-3-blood-dragon"><em>Blood Dragon</em></a> vibe. It looks like you can use guns too, though. Also, is that a Japanese love hotel?<br />
<br />
"Mobile and tablet gaming is a phenomenon that we just couldn't ignore as a studio and we're very proud to be working with one of the industry's heavy-weights on bringing <em>Fightback</em> to market," said Ninja Theory Product Manager Dominic Matthews. "Ninja Theory has always strived for the highest production values and that absolutely remains the case in this exciting new space."<br />
<br />
Chillingo is showing off <em>Fightback</em> at E3 next month, and expects to launch it this summer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/24/ninja-theory-teams-up-with-chillingo-on-ios-android-f2p-brawler/">Ninja Theory teams up with Chillingo on iOS, Android F2P brawler Fightback</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 May 2013 11:15:00 EST. A new PS4 ad in Europe provides further indication the continent can expect the console to arrive there this year. While Sony <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/20/playstation-4/">announced</a> the PS4 was due "Holiday 2013" back at February's reveal event, the company <a href="http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/interviews/a460945/ps4-interview-sony-uk-boss-talks-streaming-hardware-and-uk-launch.htmlhttp://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/interviews/a460945/ps4-interview-sony-uk-boss-talks-streaming-hardware-and-uk-launch.html">declined to commit</a> to which regions that window applied to. However, a new PS4 ad, first <a href="http://ncloud.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/uk-metro-newspaper-ps4-coming-2013.html">spotted</a> in today's Metro newspaper in the UK, then later <a href="https://twitter.com/PlayStationEU/status/337908409984749568">tweeted</a> by PlayStation Europe, says the PS4 is "Coming 2013."<br />
<br />
Europeans have good reason to be cautious about a tentative window. The PS3 reached the continent in March 2007, having arrived in North America and Japan some four months prior - and that was via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/06/european-launch-of-playstation-3-delayed-until-march-2007/">a last-minute delay</a>, too.<br />
<br />
When asked if this confirmed the PS4 is coming to Europe this year, a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe representative told us, "We announced at the PlayStation Meeting event on February 20 that [the] PS4 would be coming in 2013... the adverts are simply re-stating that message."<br />
<br />
"More information about [the] PS4 and all PlayStation platforms will be announced at E3," he added.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/24/playstation-europe-ps4-ad-says-coming-2013/">PlayStation Europe PS4 ad says 'Coming 2013'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 May 2013 09:30:00 EST. The biggest eyebrow-raiser with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/gran-turismo-6-officially-announced/">last week's <em>Gran Turismo 6</em> reveal</a> was that it's launching on the PS3, and not the PS4. Doesn't Sony want to drive PS4 launch sales with one of its biggest franchises?<br />
<br />
In an interview on the <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/05/23/gran-turismo-6-kazunori-yamauchi-and-jim-ryan-on-15-years-of-gt/">PlayStation Blog</a>, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan explained why the latest Gran Turismo isn't debuting on the soon-to-be latest PlayStation, arguing that <em>GT6</em> can still deliver a significant difference from <em>GT5</em>, despite being on the same platform.<br />
<br />
"You had <em>GT1</em> and <em>GT2</em> on PS one," Ryan said, "<em>GT3</em> and <em>GT4</em> on PS2, then there's <em>GT5</em> on PS3 and a space next to it. The difference between <em>Gran Turismo</em> and <em>GT2</em> is unbelievable, but they're both on the same platform. The difference between <em>GT3</em> and <em>GT4</em> is huge. We're absolutely confident when GT6 comes, you'll see a big step change up from <em>GT5</em> too. There's still a lot of potential on PS3 that a developer like Polyphony can really exploit."<br />
<br />
The other, obvious factor is the install base. Gran Turismo has traditionally been a big seller, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/07/gran-turismo-now-cruising-at-67-8-million-series-sales-gt5-over/">three entries shifting over 10 million units</a>. To do that, Ryan indicates, you need to have the install base.<br />
<br />
"And the other factor is that on PS3 we have an install base of 70 million units," Ryan added. "On PS4 on launch day we'll have an install base of zero units. There'll be plenty of games to help drive PS4 - not least <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/driveclub"><em>Driveclub</em></a> in the racing genre from Evolution Studios, a studio with a fantastic pedigree."<br />
<br />
A PS4 version of <em>GT6</em> looks more than likely at some point down the line, and it's something that hasn't been shied away from. Speaking to <a href="http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/05/15/gran-turismo-6-in-mind-for-ps4">IGN</a>, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi said, "We actually do have a PlayStation 4 version in mind, but for this holiday season, we thought it would be best for users to release on PS3 for now."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/24/sony-explains-why-gran-turismo-6-is-launching-on-ps3-not-ps4/">Sony explains why Gran Turismo 6 is launching on PS3, not PS4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 May 2013 08:30:00 EST. Microsoft repre-soldier Major Nelson confirmed the box designs for Xbox One games by showing off how copies of the newly announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/microsoft-announces-forza-motorsport-5-coming-to-the-xbox-one/"><em>Forza Motorsport 5</em></a> will look. Much like how the Wii U went <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/07/amazon-reveals-potential-wii-u-software-box-designs/">bold with blue</a>, the Xbox One design is gallant in green.<br />
<br />
The <em>Forza 5</em> design also reveals the logo of BBC motorcar show <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/top-gear/">Top Gear</a></em>.<em> Forza 4</em> featured Top Gear content, and so will <em>Forza 5</em>, apparently. You can check out the full box art by speeding on past the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/24/xbox-one-official-game-box-design-unveiled/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Xbox One official game box design unveiled</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/24/xbox-one-official-game-box-design-unveiled/">Xbox One official game box design unveiled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 May 2013 08:00:00 EST. Joe Danger's latest daredevil stunt is to ride both his games, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/joe-danger"><em>Joe Danger</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/joe-danger-2-the-movie"><em>Joe Danger 2: The Movie</em></a>, onto PCs via Steam. UK indie studio Hello Games told us a number of tweaks are coming to the PC versions, including Big Picture Mode and Steamworks support. The latter is for the games' level editors. which on PC feature "all the secret controls" Hello Games used to build both tricksters.<br />
<br />
Both games will support gamepad, mouse and keyboard controls. Other tweaks and additions include ghost records of other players for <em>both</em> games, and new levels. Prices and release dates are still to come.<br />
<br />
"It's weird, PC is actually <em>Joe Danger</em>'s birthplace," Hello Games' Sean Murray told us. "We couldn't get hold of devkits when we started out, so I coded my first ever PC engine for the original <em>Joe Danger</em>, and we ended up developing the entire game on PC. I feel like the PC version has been brewing <em>forever</em> - but only played by four of us here in the office."<br />
<br />
We expect a few more people will be playing it when it comes to Steam. We gave the XBLA version of <em>Joe Danger 2: The Movie</em> a wheelie good four stars in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/14/joe-danger-2/">our review</a>, saying that it does the two things puzzle-racers should do: " tug at your need to beat them, and then tug at your need to beat them better."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/24/joe-danger-joe-danger-2-the-movie-somersaulting-onto-pc/">Joe Danger, Joe Danger 2: The Movie somersaulting onto PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 May 2013 07:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-warriors"><em>The Warriors</em></a>, Rockstar's 2005 game based on the 1979 cult movie, is <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/05/22/the-warriors-coming-next-week-to-psn/">coming to PSN next week</a>. As per typical PS Store updates, it arrives in North America on May 28 for $9.99, and then in Europe the day after for &pound;7.99/&euro;9.99.<br />
<br />
Rockstar Toronto reportedly worked on a spiritual successor to <em>The Warriors</em>,<em> </em>an Xbox 360 game called <em>We Are The Mods</em>. According to <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/297658/rockstars-secret-xbox-360-game-unmasked/">CVG</a>, it was similar in style to The Warriors' urban brawling, but set in mid-1960s England, during the Mods and Rockers era.<br />
<br />
Since that never came to fruition, the closest you're going to get to a current-gen Warriors game, outside of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/24/the-rogues-come-out-to-play-in-this-the-warriors-street-brawl-t/">CTXM's <em>The Warriors: Street Brawl</em></a>, is next week's re-release. Like all PS2 Classics on PSN, it's only playable on PS3.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/23/the-warriors-rages-onto-psn-next-week-as-ps2-classic/">The Warriors rages onto PSN next week as PS2 Classic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 May 2013 16:30:00 EST. <br />
You know Nintendo Direct - now meet Square Enix Presents. That's the name of the company's live-at-E3 video series, which it'll be broadcasting via YouTube.<br />
<br />
Square Enix Presents promises coverage on the company's E3 line-up, which is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/20/square-enix-developing-new-final-fantasy-for-ps4-first-taste-at/">expected</a> to include the new Final Fantasy for PS4. It'll also feature dev interviews, game demos, and presentations on upcoming content. And, apparently, lots of chocobo music.<br />
<br />
The shows will run across all three main days of the conference, which are June 11-13.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/23/square-enix-announces-live-e3-video-shows/">Square Enix announces 'live' E3 video shows</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 May 2013 14:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/epic-mickey-2"><em>Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two</em></a> charges onto Vita in a few weeks time. SCE America announced a release date of June 18 this morning. The Vita port of the co-op game is also confirmed for Europe, although that remains undated for now.<br />
<br />
SCE America says the Vita version, being handled by Blitz Game Studios, features ad hoc network support. Lots of the additions center on the touchscreen, including being able to control paint, thinner, and the electric beam of Oswald (the one that's not Mickey). The touchscreen can also be used to command AI and navigate the user interface, among a number of other actions.<br />
<br />
Disney <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/29/disney-closes-junction-point/">closed</a> original developer Junction Point earlier this year. The game sold 529,000 units in the US across November and December 2012, having launched for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and Wii on November 18. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/epic-mickey-2-vita/">Epic Mickey 2 (Vita)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/epic-mickey-2-vita/#5903559"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/epicmickey2-vita-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/epic-mickey-2-vita/#5903560"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/epicmickey2-vita-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/epic-mickey-2-vita/#5903561"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/epicmickey2-vita-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/23/epic-mickey-2-mouses-around-on-vita-june-18/">Epic Mickey 2 mouses around on Vita June 18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 May 2013 12:00:00 EST. In formality news, developer Infinity Ward took to <a href="https://twitter.com/InfinityWard/status/337334973684129792">Twitter</a> to confirm <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-ghosts/"><em>Call of Duty: Ghosts</em></a> for the PS4, in addition to the PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. In related news, the death of announcements featuring the phrase "next-generation platforms" is blissfully upon us.<br />
<br />
At the Xbox One event, Activision revealed it's continuing its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/call-of-dutys-xbox-multiplayer-exclusivity-cod-ghosts/">exclusivity agreement with Microsoft on Call of Duty DLC</a>. So, the one missing link regards <em>Ghosts</em> remains the Wii U, which Activision is staying quiet about.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/23/call-of-duty-ghosts-confirmed-for-ps4/">Call of Duty: Ghosts confirmed for PS4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 May 2013 08:00:00 EST. At first glance <em>Shelter</em> looks kind of cuddly; you play a badger mother looking after her cubs in some pleasant looking greenery. <em>Pid</em> developer Might &amp; Delight is billing its next game as anything but. As this early footage shows, you'll have to hunt other animals for food, and avoid becoming prey yourself. That inferno at the end isn't too cuddly either. <br />
<br />
<em>Shelter</em>, announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/15/pid-dev-badgers-steam-greenlight-with-new-game-shelter/">earlier this year</a>, is still foraging on <a href="http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=139295005">Steam Greenlight</a>. Might &amp; Delight's plans are to release it into the wilds of PC and Mac towards the end of this summer. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/23/pid-dev-unveils-early-gameplay-footage-of-wildlife-survivor-sh/">Pid dev unveils 'early gameplay footage' of wildlife survivor Shelter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 May 2013 07:00:00 EST. Atari Inc., the US branch of French parent company Atari S.A., filed for court approval this week to auction its assets in July. Those assets include the Atari logo, as well as the Test Drive, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Asteroids, and Pong franchises among others.<br />
<br />
As <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/05/22/us-atari-sale-idUSBRE94L0QP20130522">Reuters</a> and the <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323975004578499210656230972.html">Wall Street Journal</a> reports, Atari Inc., which filed for bankruptcy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/21/atari-bankruptcy-selling-assets/">earlier this year</a> in a bid to sell its assets and separate itself from Atari S.A., has failed to secure a "stalking horse" or lead bidder since then. Atari Inc. approached more than 180 parties about purchasing assets, but only 15 came back with preliminary bids. Atari Inc. didn't deem a single bid acceptable to set the minimum price for the division's clearout.<br />
<br />
As it is, Atari Inc.'s own listed minimum bids for the July auction total "nearly $22.2 million." They include $15 million for the Atari brand, $3.5 million for the Rollercoaster Tycoon franchise, $1.5 million for Test Drive, and RTS franchise Total Annihilation at just $250,000. Atari Inc. has already secured $5 million through debtor-in-possession financing. While the auction is still pending court approval, Atari Inc aims to hold it between July 16 and July 19.<br />
<br />
While the Atari name is synonymous with the arcade's pioneering years, Atari Inc. traces its roots to a company called GT Interactive, founded in 1993. GT Interactive was eventually acquired by French company Infogrames Entertainment, and in 2001 Infogrames seized Atari Corporation and its Atari properties through the purchase of Hasbro Interactive. In 2009, Infrogrames renamed itself as Atari S.A., with what was GT Interactive by then renamed as Atari Inc.<br />
<br />
After some forty or so years that have seen the Atari brand transfer across several entities, if things go to plan then in two months time it'll find itself at a new home once more. What the ramifications of that sale would be for Atari S.A., financially and nominally, are unclear.<br />
<br />
In a financial statement published on May 15, Atari S.A. said, "Faced with the uncertainties relating to the proceedings that are underway in the US, where the Group's strategic assets and most of its business are located, the outcome of the Chapter 11 proceedings in the US will be decisive for all the stakeholders." The statement also reveals Atari S.A. recently sold the ownership of its Outcast franchise for a "nominal amount," and negotiations are underway at similar prices for its Desperados and Silver franchises.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/23/atari-inc-seeks-to-generate-22m-by-auctioning-assets-in-july/">Atari Inc. seeks to generate $22M by auctioning assets in July</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 May 2013 06:00:00 EST. Joining Ninja Gaiden's Momiji as new characters in <em>Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate</em> are Ein and Jacky Bryant, the latter from the Virtua Fighter series. As revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu (via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/21/dead-or-alive-5-ultimate-adds-jacky-bryant-from-virtua-fighter/">Siliconera</a> and <a href="http://remoon.blog15.fc2.com/blog-entry-25584.html">Game Jouhou</a>), the spiky-haired racer gels with the other combatants when the PS3 and Xbox 360 game hits Japan on September 5.<br />

The <em>Komplete Edition</em> of the 2011 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mortal-kombat-2011/"><em>Mortal Kombat</em></a> finishes Windows PC this summer, with the digital distributed fatality pinned for July 3. Retail annihilation is due a month later, so duck and cover on August 2 in Europe, and on August 6 in North America.<br />
<br />
As per the version released for consoles <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/09/mortal-kombat-komplete-edition-koming-to-konsoles-february-28/">last year</a>, <em>Komplete Edition</em> features all the game's DLC, with the expanded roster including a certain Freddy Kreuger (the regular creepy kind), Kenshi, Scarlet, and Rain. <em>Conduit</em> and <em>Kinect Star Wars</em> developer High Voltage Games, who've just released the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/zoombies-review-portabliss/">"addictive"</a> puzzler <em>Zoombies</em> for iOS, is handling the PC port.<br />

Crytek's 'Kinect-enhanced' brawler <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ryse">Ryse</a> </em>is exclusive to the Xbox One. The game, previously confirmed as exclusive to Xbox platforms, is revealed for the Xbox One by a countdown on Crytek's site, which is set to end on June 10 - that happens to match up with E3 time.<br />
<br />
The countdown also features the year 2013 in Roman numerals, perhaps pointing to the game being released this year for the new console. A blurb on the countdown reads, "Fight as a soldier. Lead as a general. Rise as a Legend," and the game is described as "controller-based gameplay enhanced by Kinect."<br />
<br />
We'll have more details on <em>Ryse</em> for Xbox One as we learn them.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/22/cryteks-ryse-confirmed-for-xbox-one/">Crytek's Ryse confirmed for Xbox One</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 May 2013 09:00:00 EST. Microsoft says it's bringing the newly unveiled next-gen Kinect to PC as well as the Xbox One. The company disclosed its plans to <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/5/22/4354472/next-generation-kinect-will-eventually-see-a-release-on-windows-pc">Polygon</a> and <a href="https://www.shacknews.com/article/79307/kinect-for-xbox-one-coming-to-pc">Shacknews</a>. Microsoft Corporate VP of Interactive Entertainment Business Ben Kilgore told Polygon the device will come to PC "at some point down the line," while Kinect Program Manager Scott Evans told Shacknews Microsoft will have "more information soon."<br />
<br />
The new Kinect <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/next-gen-kinect-sensor-unveiled-for-xbox-one/">features</a> a 1080P HD RGB camera, 30 FPS color, Time of Flight technology, and microphone arrays. It has a greater sense of depth and field of view compared to the original Kinect, and thanks to infrared tech it can see in the dark. Microsoft <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/xbox-ones-kinect-discerns-heartbeat-and-who-has-the-controller/">showed us</a> how the sensor can track two player profiles, each tied to a controller, and also demonstrated how it can estimate players' heart rates.<br />
<br />
Each Xbox One ships with the device. The console launches later this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/22/next-gen-kinect-coming-to-pc/">Next-gen Kinect coming to PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 May 2013 08:00:00 EST. In an E3 conference not so far away, EA will offer a first look at its upcoming Star Wars games. The ink has barely dried on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/06/ea-disney-exclusive-rights-star-wars/">exclusive contract with Disney</a> in the wake of LucastArts' demise, but with next-gen consoles around the corner, it's no surprise EA is keen to offer a glimpse of what's to come.<br />
<br />
The news was spilled on EA's The Beat blog by Labels President Frank Gibeau, who name-checked <em>Battlefield 4</em>, EA Sports games, and the Need for Speed franchise as part of the company's E3 showcase of next-gen games.<br />
<br />
Around the time the post went up, Need for Speed's Facebook page uploaded a new screenshot (below the break) of what's very likely the next game in the racing series. The shot was tagged with the description "Have no rules, show no mercy."<br />
<br />
The screenshot completely negates any possibility of it, but we're gonna call it anyway. At E3 next month, prepare to meet <em>Need for Hyperspeed</em>. You heard it here first.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/22/ea-to-show-star-wars-plans-at-e3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EA to show Star Wars plans at E3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/22/ea-to-show-star-wars-plans-at-e3/">EA to show Star Wars plans at E3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 May 2013 07:00:00 EST. Are these the designs for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/22/xbox-one-game-box-art-appears-on-battlefield-4-site/">Xbox One</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ps4">PS4</a> game covers? The images come via the official <em>Battlefield 4</em> site, where they're pictured prominently on a couple of pages. They may just be EA mock-ups - no other companies, including Microsoft and Sony, have released any images - but maybe they are the real deal. We reckon they look <i>elegantly crisp</i>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/22/xbox-one-game-box-art-appears-on-battlefield-4-site/">Xbox One, PS4 game box art appears on Battlefield 4 site</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 May 2013 06:00:00 EST. Microsoft confirmed to Joystiq only <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-one">Xbox One</a> controllers and accessories are supported by the new console. The new system won't support the Xbox 360 controller or Xbox 360 Kinect. When approached, a Microsoft spokesperson provided us with the following statement:

<blockquote class="bq-standard">"Xbox One was designed from the ground up with entirely new technology to deliver a new generation of experiences for both games and entertainment For example, the Wireless Controller will connect to the console using high speed data transfer to enable higher fidelity headset audio and future controller add-on experiences that are not possible with Xbox 360 wireless technology. Additionally, the all-new Kinect sensor's ability to locate the wireless controller is dependent on new technology. In order for Xbox One to deliver robust, meaningful gaming scenarios for all users across all experiences, only Xbox One controllers and accessories will work with the new console."</blockquote>
Microsoft previously confirmed to <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/5/21/4353912/xbox-one-will-not-support-xbox-360-controllers">Polygon</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/21/building-xbox-one-an-inside-look/">Engadget</a> the Xbox One won't support the Xbox 360 controller or Xbox 360 Kinect respectively. Neither is surprising, given Microsoft's new system has a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-controller-has-new-d-pad-integrated-battery-compartmen/">redesigned controller</a> and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/xbox-ones-kinect-discerns-heartbeat-and-who-has-the-controller/">next-gen edition of the Kinect sensor</a>.<br />
<br />
However, while it isn't explicitly said, Microsoft's statement seems to indicate the Xbox One won't support any Xbox 360 accessories. When asked on Twitter if the new system supports Xbox 360 headsets, Xbox Support reiterated the statement we received, <a href="https://twitter.com/XboxSupport/status/337068679164477440">saying</a>, "Only Xbox One accessories will work with Xbox One, which helps us deliver better headset audio and other benefits."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/22/microsoft-only-xbox-one-controllers-accessories-will-work-wit/">Microsoft: 'Only Xbox One controllers, accessories will work with the new console.'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 May 2013 04:00:00 EST. Nintendo released what looks like a minor system update for the Wii U this week, and it's available to download now. Going by the patch notes, 3.0.1 U offers "further improvements to overall system stability and software compatibility."<br />
<br />
We've downloaded the update and can't see any obvious changes. Maybe the Wii U just wanted to make itself heard over the clamor of a certain other box.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/22/wii-u-3-0-1-system-update-released/">Wii U 3.0.1 system update released</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 May 2013 03:00:00 EST. Are you too popular for the Xbox 360? The Xbox One is here for you with an expanded friends list limit of 1000, as revealed by Microsoft Support's official Twitter account. That's ten times the limit on Xbox 360, so even the most beloved of gamers should be placated.<br />
<br />

Info on Microsoft's 'Meet Xbox One' page reveals the newly unveiled console allows you to play 'immediately as games install.' The Xbox One can install games to the console's 500GB hard drive. According to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-may-require-game-installs-close-out-used-game-market/?a_dgi=aolshare_twitter">one report</a> the console may require games to be installed, with a fee required if you want to install them onto a second account. Either way, going by this, players can boot games as soon as they start installing them.<br />
<br />
In terms of instantly switching between games and the system's other functions like live TV and movies, as detailed during Microsoft's presser, the page confirms the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-one">Xbox One</a> lets you suspend games "right where you left off, so you can resume instantly." Think how the Vita, Wii U, or 3DS work when you exit and suspend a game to use the systems' other functions. Except not with those systems, but with a shiny new Xbox.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong>Microsoft told our friends at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-installs-friend-list/">Engadget</a> that Xbox One 50GB Blu-ray discs automatically rip to the system's 500GB hard drive, although it's not clear if installation is mandatory or not. Also, <a href="https://twitter.com/XboxSupport/status/336933801517260800">Microsoft Support</a> indicated via Twitter the report mentioned above about installing games to a second account was inaccurate. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-lets-you-play-immediately-during-installs-suspend-an/">Xbox One lets you play 'immediately' during installs, suspend and resume games [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 May 2013 15:20:00 EST. No surprises, but Ubisoft announced it's bringing <em>Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag</em> and <em>Watch Dogs</em> to the Xbox One, hot on the heels of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-one">the console's reveal</a>. Ubisoft says the duo are two of "at least six next-gen games" it's bringing to the Xbox One in the system's first year.<br />
<br />
"The next generation of consoles will reinvigorate our industry and make it possible for us to deliver incredible new entertainment to gamers," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. "Our teams are using the innovations in connectivity, immersion and social gaming included in Xbox One to create original and memorable next-gen gaming experiences."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/watch-dogs-assassins-creed-4-confirmed-for-xbox-one/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4 confirmed for Xbox One</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/watch-dogs-assassins-creed-4-confirmed-for-xbox-one/">Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4 confirmed for Xbox One</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 May 2013 14:27:00 EST. Microsoft unveiled the successor to the Xbox 360's Kinect add-on, and revealed it'll be paired with "every" <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-one">Xbox One</a>. It features a 1080P HD RGB camera which can be used with Skype, 30 FPS color, and an increased field-of-view. Among other voice commands, which let you instantly switch between playing a game, live TV, wathing movies, playing music, or browsing the web, Kinect's mic lets you turn on the new system by saying "Xbox On."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/next-gen-kinect-sensor-unveiled-for-xbox-one/">Next-gen Kinect sensor unveiled for Xbox One, paired with 'every' system</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 May 2013 13:27:00 EST. We've pulled together the very best minds at Joystiq Tech to analyse the all-important changes between the old Xbox logo (left), originally on the Xbox.com site, and a new logo (right) that's appeared today. After hours of heated discussion, they came to a consensus.

<ol>
	<li>The font is a different color.</li>
	<li>The sphere doesn't have the same sheen.</li>
	<li>The X on the sphere is darker, and a bit wider</li>
</ol>
When asked what this all means, if anything, our hive-mind melted into a puddle before quickly evaporating into a steam cloud that drifted out of the window. Maybe we'll find out more in a few hours time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/xbox-logo-undergoes-subtle-change-on-site-ahead-of-next-gen-reve/">Xbox logo undergoes subtle change on site ahead of next-gen reveal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 May 2013 11:05:00 EST. In four hours time, Microsoft gives birth to a new generation of Xbox. We'll be there inside the tent, ready to cover the screams, the pain, the joy, the relief - the whole messy ordeal.<br />
<br />
We'll have our liveblog and a live stream straight from the show, and they'll get going on the front page at around 12PM ET (9AM PT, 5PM Brit-time). The show, the main event, the big Kahuna itself starts at 1PM ET - you can check your local converted time <a href="http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Xbox+Event&amp;iso=20130521T10&amp;p1=234&amp;ah=2">here</a>. Target is currently offering the 8GB Wii U Basic at <a href="http://www.target.com/p/wii-u-8gb-basic-set-console-white-nintendo-wii-u/-/A-14174036#prodSlot=medium_1_5&amp;term=wii+u">$239.99</a>, one of the lowest prices <em>if not the lowest price </em>we've seen from a major North American retailer. Put your calculators away: that's 20 percent off the normal price of $300. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/wii-u-basic-sale/">Back in March</a>, Best Buy put the Wii U Basic on sale at $250 for a couple of days.<br />

The Wii U fell below targets In Nintendo's year-end financials, coming in at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/24/wii-u-shipments-miss-targets-at-3-45m-fy14-forecasts-of-9m/">3.45 million shipped worldwide</a> as of March 31. <br />
Sony's Japan Studio followed up <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/sonys-panopticon-countdown-ends-with-mysterious-trailer/">last week's mysterious 'Panopticon' trailer</a> with a second offering today, unveiling the project a a Vita multiplayer action game called <em>Freedom Wars</em>. The trailer also revealed it's coming to Japan sometime next year.<br />
<br />
The new trailer is an embellishment of the first one, providing more context. Panopticon seems to be the region <em>Freedom Wars</em> takes place in, a totalitarian dystopia in the future. The world is devastated by dwindling resources and zero population growth - maybe because hundreds of millions are dying in war.<br />
<br />
The YouTube blurb denotes <em>Freedom Wars</em> as a "multiplayer action" game. A collection of screens on the <a href="http://www.jp.playstation.com/scej/title/freedomwars/">game's website</a> show what looks like skirmishes taking place across regions in Japan. One screen is a Yahoo Maps snapshot of the Shibuya region in Tokyo, but with icons superimposed on it indicating particular in-game locations.<br />
<br />
<em>Freedom Wars</em> remains shrouded in mystery - although at least we now know it's a Vita game. The website indicates more info will be spilled later this month.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong>Here's a bit more info, courtesy of a press release translated by <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=58316436&amp;postcount=202">NeoGAF</a>. According to it, <em>Freedom Wars</em> supports 8-player co-op and competitive modes, supports both Adhoc and Wi-Fi, and use the Vita's GPS and Near tech - which may explain the Yahoo Maps screen (see above).

<blockquote class="bq-standard"><em>Freedom Wars</em> is a brand new game which aims to offer a new gaming experience in the popular multiplayer action genre by taking advantage of the PS Vita's unique functions. The player is a criminal in a post-apocalyptic near future, sentenced to a million years of hard labor, fighting for his freedom. By completing missions where you rescue civilians and allies who have been captured by huge enemies known as Abductors, you can reduce your sentence. The game supports a maximum of 8 players at a time in both co-op and competitive modes, and supports Adhoc and Wi-Fi Online functions so players all over the country can play together. The game will also support the GPS and Near capabilities of the PS Vita to enhance the gameplay experience.</blockquote><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/panopticon-is-freedom-wars-a-vita-multiplayer-action-game-d/">'Panopticon' is Freedom Wars, a Vita multiplayer action game due in 2014 [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 May 2013 06:30:00 EST. Irreverent Marvel antihero <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deadpool">Deadpool</a> may be gracing the Wii U, at least according to a listing by <a href="http://www.amazon.ca/Activision-Blizzard-047875769922-Deadpool/dp/B00BKX4H46/ref=sr_1_3_title_0?s=videogames&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1369056867&amp;sr=1-3&amp;keywords=deadpool">Amazon Canada</a>. Spotted by <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=559128">NeoGAF</a> over the weekend, the retailer has High Moon Studios' madcap action game pinned for the Nintendo console.<br />
<br />
Unlike other platforms listed by the retailer, the release date is apparently a placeholder (December 31 2013) and the listing is minus details and box art. Even if a Wii U version is on the way, given the timing it seems unlikely it'll launch alongside the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC ones on June 25.<br />
<br />
We've reached out to Deadpool himself (and Activision) to clear things up. <strong>Update:</strong> Activision reps got back to us and have said, "There are currently no plans for DEADPOOL to come to Wii-U."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/20/deadpool-listed-for-wii-u-by-amazon-canada/">Deadpool listed for Wii U by Amazon Canada [Update: Activision responds]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 May 2013 13:00:00 EST. The first Yakuza entry for a non-Sony console is <em>Yakuza 1 and 2 HD</em>. Nintendo announced the Wii U port in last week's Nintendo Direct. Going by this vid, the gangster classics are compatible with off-TV play. The HD combo roughs up Wii U in Japan on August 8. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yakuza-1-and-2-hd-wii-u/">Yakuza 1 and 2 HD (Wii U)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yakuza-1-and-2-hd-wii-u/#5893347"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/1-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yakuza-1-and-2-hd-wii-u/#5893348"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/1-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yakuza-1-and-2-hd-wii-u/#5893349"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/1-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yakuza-1-and-2-hd-wii-u/#5893350"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/1-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/yakuza-1-and-2-hd-wii-u/#5893351"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/1-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/20/yakuza-1-and-2-hd-to-paint-the-wii-u-red-in-japan/">Yakuza 1 and 2 HD to paint the Wii U red in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 May 2013 10:30:00 EST. Warner Bros. revealed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/batman-arkham-origins"><em>Batman: Arkham Origins</em></a> is fronted by two of gaming's most prominent voice actors. Roger Craig Smith is confirmed as the caped crusader, and Troy Baker is his nemesis, the Joker.<br />
<br />
If you don't recognize the names, you'll definitely recognize their previous work. Craig Smith's immense portfolio includes Ezio Auditore from Assassin's Creed, Chris Redfield from Resident Evil, <em>and</em> he's the current voice of Sonic. While he's never starred in anything Batman related, he does have superhero experience. It is for the other side, however; he's played Captain America in both games and animations.<br />
<br />
Baker is similarly prolific. While he recently graced our screens as Booker DeWitt in <em>BioShock Infinite</em>, his past work includes Sgt. Matt Baker in Gearbox's <em>Brothers in Arms</em>, Snow from the Final Fantasy 13 line, Kai Leng from <em>Mass Effect 3</em>, and Vincent from <em>Catherine</em>. When we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/troy-baker-the-industrys-new-nolan-north/">profiled</a> Baker around this time last year, he shared his love for all things Batman on the back of starring in <em>Arkham City</em>.<br />
<br />
"Being a part of Arkham City was just incredible - because I'm a huge Batman fan," Baker told us, "And to play Two-Face and Robin after growing up watching <em>The Animated Series</em> was a banner moment for me."<br />
<br />
The news follows apparent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/19/kevin-conroy-returns-for-batman-arkham-origins/">confirmation</a> long-time Batman vocalist Kevin Conroy <em>does </em>star<em> </em>in <em>Origins</em>, but how he features remains to be seen. We know<em> Origins</em> deals with Batman's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/29/report-batman-arkham-origins-doesnt-feature-voice-actor-kevin/">"initiation into that insane world"</a> of the other Arkham games, so perhaps Conroy's role is something retrospective. Even if Conroy doesn't play the dark knight in any sense in <em>Origins</em>, to fans he's still <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=ZX5A8q7_pKE">the goddamn Batman</a>.<br />

It's another familiar week of UK cha-... oh wait, it isn't.<br />
<br />
After<em> Dead Island: Riptide</em> sliced through its competition for three weeks, this time it's dethroned by another follow-up in the form of <em>Metro: Last Light</em>. By debuting in top spot, it does what <em>Metro 2033</em> failed to do when it placed fifth in 2010.<br />
<br />
Chart-Track says <em>Metro 2033</em> sold stronger than <em>Last Light</em> in its launch week. Back then, <em>Metro 2033</em> was fighting March megatons like <em>Final Fantasy 13</em>, <em>God of War 3</em>, and <em>Battlefield Bad Company 2</em>. In contrast, May 2013 has been dead quiet - emphasis on dead.<br />
<br />
Having said that, this week sees another new release in the top ten via <em>Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity</em>. The spinoff charts fourth this week. We expect the next 3DS Poke-game to do slightly better.<br />
<br />
In other movers and shakers, <em>Last Light</em> only nudged <em>Riptide</em> into second place, making this week a 1-2 for Deep Silver and Koch Media. <em>Tomb Raider</em> drops out of the top five for the first time in its 11th week, slipping down to sixth. Meanwhile, <em>Injustice: Gods Among Us</em> and <em>The Walking Dead</em> (packaged retail edition) shuffle into eighth and seventh.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/20/metro-last-light-shines-in-this-weeks-uk-charts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metro: Last Light shines in this week's UK charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/20/metro-last-light-shines-in-this-weeks-uk-charts/">Metro: Last Light shines in this week's UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 May 2013 07:00:00 EST. The former Sony Liverpool devs at Sawfly Studios are bringing <em>Men's Room Mayhem</em> to Vita next week, via PSN. It should arrive on May 21 in North America, although as always with news revealed by the <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/official-playstation-blogcast/id483223024">PlayStation Blogcast</a>, dates can be subject to change.<br />
<br />
If you're curious about the curiously named game, Phil Gaskell from publisher Ripstone describes it as "<em>Flight Control </em>meets <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carry_On_at_Your_Convenience"><em>Carry on at Your Convenience</em></a>." - No, it's not the flight paths of... that stuff, but about getting patrons to where they need to go.<br />
<br />
"In <em>Men's Room Mayhem</em> you're hired as the janitor of your very own chaotic men's room," said Gaskell on the <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/05/02/mens-room-mayhem-enforces-laws-of-the-lav-on-ps-vita-soon/">PlayStation Blog</a>. "You're responsible for directing patrons, keeping everywhere sparkling clean and steering patrons away from trouble! You need to get your customers safely to the urinals and cubicles in time - otherwise there'll be a few nasty accidents for you to clean up!"<br />
<br />
The Blogcast also outed a wee (ahem) bit of other content in next week's PS Store update. A "smattering of DLC" is coming to <em>Aliens: Colonial Marines, </em>although the podcast wasn't any more specific than that<em>. A</em> digital PS3 version of <em>Mugen Souls</em> is also due.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/mens-room-mayhem-hits-psn-next-week-aliens-colonial-marines-d/">Men's Room Mayhem hits PSN next week, Aliens: Colonial Marines DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 12:45:00 EST. The <em>Super Luigi U</em> DLC for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/new-super-mario-bros-u"><em>New Super Mario Bros. U</em></a> is being released as a digital download for the game on June 20 in both North America and Europe. However, it's also coming to retail as a packaged standalone. It'll be available August 25 in North America, and July 26 in Europe. The DLC will be priced at $19.99, while the standalone is $29.99. You won't need <em>NSMB U</em> to play the packaged game.<br />
<br />
This morning's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/nintendo-direct-summer-may-17/">Nintendo Direct</a> also revealed that Nabbit, a little critter who you chased in the first game, is a playable character in the new content. He'll be available in multiplayer games as an easier alternative to Luigi and the Toads. He won't take damage when he touches enemies, but to balance that he won't be able to use power-ups. <br />
<br />
<em>Super Luigi U</em> makes changes to<em> NSMB U</em>'s campaign to make every course "all-new" - it's essentially a new Luigi campaign.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/super-luigi/">Super Luigi U arrives as DLC June 20, packaged standalone August 25</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 10:21:00 EST. Sega and Nintendo have entered into a "worldwide partnership" on three upcoming Sonic games, and the first fruit borne from it is <em>Sonic: Lost World</em>. It's coming to Wii U and 3DS, and there'll be more news on it prior to E3.<br />
<br />
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said on this morning's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/nintendo-direct-summer-may-17/">Nintendo Direct</a>: "<em>Sonic: Lost World</em> is a brand new action-adventure platforming game that will launch exclusively on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/sonic-lost-world-confirmed-for-wii-u-3ds/">Sonic: Lost World announced, launches 'exclusively' for Wii U, 3DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 10:05:00 EST. <br />
We're not sure today's Nintendo Direct will announce much in the way of new Wii U games. Well, it' unlikely to reveal any new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/ea-has-no-wii-u-games-in-development/">EA ones</a>, anyway. What we <em>do</em> know is that the North American broadcast covers Wii U and 3DS games coming in the summer.<br />
<br />
As ever, the North American stream intertwines with simultaneous ones from Europe and Japan. Ninty's Euro division says its stream is about spring and summer Wii U games. Should you prefer, you can find both those streams after the break.<br />
<br />
We hope you're ready to rumble, because this summer party gets started at 10AM ET (7AM PT, 3PM UK) right here on this post, right here on this Joystiq. We'll have all the news for you as it's revealed, like lots of little suns peeking out from behind an Iwata-shaped cloud.<br />
<br />

Series creator Hideo Kojima announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-rising-revengeance"><em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em></a> is coming to the PC. Speaking on his HideRadio podcast, Kojima revealed the upcoming port. The news was then confirmed by Platinum Games creative producer Jean Pierre Kellams.<br />

Epic lays down <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/gears-of-war-judgment">Gears of War: Judgment</a> </em>with new multiplayer DLC in June. The 'Lost Relics' pack a new gametype and four further maps, including the return of 'Checkout' from Gears of War 3. Also bundled in are new armor and weapon skins.<br />
<br />
The gametype is called Breakthrough. It features one team trying to get a flag from A to B, and another trying to stop them. The attacking team has a limited pool of lives, while the defensive team has unlimited resources. Sounds like the attacking team's has their work cut out.<br />

You can peruse layouts of the four maps - that's Checkout, Lost City, Museum, and Ward (for OverRun) - in the gallery just below these words. More details are due in the coming weeks. Finally, in case you missed it, <em>Judgment</em> received a free OverRun map <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/10/gears-of-war-judgment-gets-free-overrun-map-may-15/">earlier this week</a>. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gears-of-war-judgment-lost-relics-maps/">Gears of War: Judgment (Lost Relics maps)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gears-of-war-judgment-lost-relics-maps/#5887497"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/checkoutmap_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gears-of-war-judgment-lost-relics-maps/#5887499"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/lostcitymap_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gears-of-war-judgment-lost-relics-maps/#5887500"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/museummap_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gears-of-war-judgment-lost-relics-maps/#5887501"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/wardmapwithobjectives_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/gears-of-war-judgment-gets-lost-relics-multiplayer-dlc-next-m/">Gears of War: Judgment gets 'Lost Relics' multiplayer DLC next month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 07:30:00 EST. <br />
Ahead of <em>Arrested Development</em> blue-ing up on screens once more when the fourth season arrives <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2013/apr/04/arrested-development-netflix-may-26">later this month</a>, Netflix released a sizzle reel (below the break) for the sitcom's hapless actor wannabe Tobias F&uuml;nke. As ever, Tobias' awkward choice of words is the star of the show, but the <em>Jumpman</em> cameo is a very close second.<br />
<br />
That'd be pretty tenuous to post on its own, but thankfully Capcom stepped in and gave us the perfect excuse. Responding to Tobias' call in the sizzle reel - "Insert me anywhere!" - Capcom did just that with a selection of its classic games. And now we want a Mega Man game with Dr F&uuml;nke as the villain. Make it happen, universe.<br />
<br />
Also, we got this far without making the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/18/capcom-adjusts-forecasts-following-canceled-games-revises-strat/">obvious gag</a>. <a href="http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lwuhjeD9i01qbbk61o1_400.gif">Huzzah</a>!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/capcom-inserts-arrested-developments-tobias-funke-everywhere/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Capcom inserts Arrested Development's Tobias Fünke everywhere</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/capcom-inserts-arrested-developments-tobias-funke-everywhere/">Capcom inserts Arrested Development's Tobias Fünke everywhere</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 07:00:00 EST.
