Sick Street Fighter III Tourney footage (oldie but goodie)

street fighter 2 daigo We love this stuff. In the clip that follows, gamer Daigo playing as Ken is up against the ropes against Chun Li in the final round of a Street Fighter III tournament at the Evolution 2004 fighting game tournament. Ken is dropped to zero remaining health when his opponent pulls a super combo move on him. This normally means sure death, but instead, Daigo parries every last one of the 15-blow barrage, then promptly takes Chun Li out.

And of course … The! Crowd! Goes! Wild!

You'd have to have played SFII to really appreciate this demonstration of extreme reflexes and gaming performance, but this ranks up there with some of the other virtuoso moments we've featured in the past (DDR, Ikaruga).

I think the game is Street Fighter III Third Strike and not Street Fighter II, but great clip anyways

sorry but this is weak. justin might as well told daigo what he was going to do. parrying that super art with an arcade stick isn't all that difficult either... especially if you see it coming a mile away! daigo was tapping forward constantly... waiting for the super art. slow news day?

Yeah, that is def. Third Strike, two is the old school one with Blanka..

That is pretty amazing, that type of parry is hard to pull off and without taking a hit, especially with that pressure on. that's one of those moments which makes third strike so awesome, II would be way to slow to pull off that type of parrying and combo mayhem.

Sure, but, as others have pointed out, it would have definitely helped a lot more to have played SF3, as that's the GAME ON DISPLAY HERE.

If he had blocked normally he would've taken damage. Which is normally called "Chip Damage" because it chips away at the health bar.

Seeing as he was at Zero Health he would've lost.

To parry attacks in SF3 you have to press forward at a precise time to parry the attack, thus not taking any damage.

Given the fact someone has probably done that before is pretty impressive and a good measure of how skillful they are. Daigo pulled it off in the final round, of the final match for the championship with absoultely no health.

Talk about pressure.

I dont think this was the final game. It was some semi-final round. Diago ended up losing to someguy later. He didnt win the competition.

Isn't parrying kinda easy after you've blocked the first attack ? once you've blocked the first one, which is really hard, all the others just follow with the same intervals, no?

If you want to get anal, then no, because the rhythm breaks up between the 7th and 8th hits (when Chun-Li switches legs), and he had position himself and time just right to be able to combo like he did after parrying the last hit. Regardless, the timing is very strict, and I would definitely not call it "kinda easy", especially not when done under monumental pressure like this. The fact that Daigo managed to retaliate with a combo that was JUST enough to kill off Wong just makes it even cooler.

From some of the previous comments, I can tell that some people here have never played SF III Third Strike. This is amazing. I've seen this many times, and even have the EVO videos. If his parrying was a split second off on any of those hits, he would have died. He then jumps, does an air parry, and strings an amazing combo together. Street Fighter 3 isn't like Marvel vs. Capcom where you can button tap to string combos together, you have to cancel into things and it's much more difficult.

For those of you that don't think this is amazing, go pick up a copy os SF Anniversary Edition which includes Third Strike and go try it for yourself.

Yeah, the parrying was very, very nice and like Christopher said, the air parry was perfect (nice super move ending too).

But man, what was with the Chun-Li player completely telegraphing the move? Hell, why even bother with it? Someone got greedy.

He wasn't telegraphing the move. If you watch the actual video, the stupid window is not there in the corner, and you can see that he is throwing out random attacks to raise his super bar, so he can perform the super and finish Daigo off. It would be the ideal way to finish him off since he should not be able to parry them all, but he does.

yeah, like yay said, pick up anniversary collection and play this great game! this ain't marvel when it comes to pulling off combos, it's hard shit, but oh so fun.
definitely not "easy since he has an arcade stick". parrying chun li's SA2 is hard shit since the first hit is tricky haha.

Of course he's gonna do a super! It's generally the risk-free way of ENSURING that your opponent dies. Any single attack is in danger of getting parried.

I like how some have gone as far as calling this easy to pull off. I would really like them film themselves pulling something off something like this and then posting it on the internet.

yeh this is one clip i cant get sick of, parrying the full super is not easy, well not chuns sa2 at least that was some nice pwnage, great match justin tried to cheese win him and got full parried into combo KOed haha brilliant
