Tower defense game <em>Evilot</em> is now compatible with the iPhone, and it arrive on PC later today (June 20). We recently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/27/review-evilot-ios-portabliss/">reviewed</a> the iPad version, taking note of the way it blends the mechanics of <em>Plants vs. Zombies</em> with <em>Triple Town</em>. Ultimately, the game lacked the polish of PopCap's ubiquitous <em>PvZ</em>, but we praised <em>Evilot</em> for its unique unit building mechanic.<br />
<br />
The iOS version of <em>Evilot</em> is <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/evilot/id638051061??partnerId=30&amp;siteID=lw9MynSeamY-YtWOex9TcqZVAUmAahnYEg">$0.99</a> on iTunes, and a limited <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/evilot-free/id639403770?mt=8">free version</a> is also available. The PC version launches tomorrow for <a href="http://www.desura.com/games/evilot">$1.99</a> on Desura.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/20/evilot-now-defending-iphone-and-pc/">Evilot now defending iPhone and PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Jun 2013 02:00:00 EST. Cable, Wolverine, Psylocke, and Domino were already announced as making appearances in the upcoming <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deadpool"><em>Deadpool</em></a> game by High Moon Studios (due out on June 28), and now you can add one more X-(wo)man to that list. Rogue is joining the team, and as you can see above, she's brought a new look with her.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deadpool-psylocke-domino-and-rogue-cards/">Deadpool (Psylocke, Domino, and Rogue Cards)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deadpool-psylocke-domino-and-rogue-cards/#5972913"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/deadpoolpsylocke_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deadpool-psylocke-domino-and-rogue-cards/#5972912"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/deadpooldomino_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deadpool-psylocke-domino-and-rogue-cards/#5972914"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/deadpoolrogue_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/20/rogue-joins-the-gallery-of-guest-stars-in-the-deadpool-game/">Rogue joins the gallery of guest stars in the Deadpool game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Jun 2013 01:00:00 EST. Publisher OP Productions has changed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-war-z"><em>The War Z</em></a>'s name to <em>Infestation: Survivor Stories</em>, "in part to help fans differentiate the popular game from similarly titled brands," a press release reads. If we were to take a wild guess, that's probably in reference to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/day-z/"><em>DayZ</em></a>, the <em>Arma 2</em> mod that gained massive popularity and is due out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/dean-hall-dayz-standalone-alpha-wont-launch-until-at-least-jun/">this year</a> as a standalone game.<br />
<br />
"OP Productions initially filed <em>The War Z</em> trademark early last year, but soon found out from the United States Patent and Trademark Office that the name was comparable to another property," the statement says. "After months of trying to resolve the issue, OP Productions decided the best option to avoid confusion among players was to rename the game. Current players will not experience any change or interruption with the exception of the change in name and game logo."<br />
<br />
<em>The War Z</em> launched on Steam on December 17, but was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/19/the-war-z-removed-from-steam/">quickly removed</a> for advertising inaccurate game elements. <em>The War Z</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/26/the-war-z-returns-from-the-dead-on-steam/">re-launched</a> on Steam in February.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/the-war-z-is-now-infestation-survivor-stories/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The War Z is now 'Infestation: Survivor Stories'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/the-war-z-is-now-infestation-survivor-stories/">The War Z is now 'Infestation: Survivor Stories'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Jun 2013 23:59:00 EST. The latest <a href="http://www.indieroyale.com/">Indie Royale bundle</a> is a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/30/indie-royale-dishes-out-the-really-big-bundle/">re-run</a>, chosen by fans, and it features the triumphant return of <em>Really Big Sky, Eufloria, Runespell: Overture, Cthulhu Saves the World</em> and <em>Breath of Death 7</em>. It's available for five more days for whatever the minimum price is (usually less than $5). Those who pay $7 or more can snag Disasterpeace's chiptune album <em>Rise Of The Obsidian Interstellar</em>.<br />
<br />
Indie Royale is a pay-what-you-want bundle system with a twist - there is a minimum price, and the only way to knock it down for subsequent buyers is to pay more than that. Bonus, paying more also helps out the developers who provide the games that you want to play in that bundle.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/indie-royale-bundle-re-runs-cthulhu-saves-the-world-eufloria-m/">Indie Royale bundle re-runs Cthulhu Saves the World, Eufloria, more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Jun 2013 22:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/joe-danger"><em>Joe Danger</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/joe-danger-2-the-movie"><em>Joe Danger 2: The Movie</em></a> are set to pop wheelies on Steam on June 24, and the sequel port will come with additional <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/minecraft"><em>Minecraft</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/team-fortress-2"><em>Team Fortress 2</em></a>-themed goodies. You'll be able to play as the <em>Team Fortress 2</em> cast - don't tell Joe you're racing without him! - and Minecraft Guy, plus pull from a whole suite of <em>Minecraft</em> items, objects and environments in the level editor.<br />
<br />
<em>Joe Danger</em> and <em>Joe Danger 2: The Movie</em> on Steam both benefit from Big Picture mode and will incorporate Steam Workshop into their level editors. Keyboard and mouse controls, as well as game pads, are also supported.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/joe-danger-2-pc-team-fortress-2-and-minecraft-costumes/">Joe Danger 2 PC (Team Fortress 2 and Minecraft Costumes)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/joe-danger-2-pc-team-fortress-2-and-minecraft-costumes/#5975950"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/joedanger2pcminecraft1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/joe-danger-2-pc-team-fortress-2-and-minecraft-costumes/#5975951"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/joedanger2pcminecraft2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/joe-danger-2-pc-team-fortress-2-and-minecraft-costumes/#5975952"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/joedanger2pctf2heavy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/joe-danger-2-pc-team-fortress-2-and-minecraft-costumes/#5975953"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/joedanger2pctf2soldier_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/joe-danger-2-pc-team-fortress-2-and-minecraft-costumes/#5975954"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/joedanger2pctf2spy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/build-minecraft-levels-select-team-fortress-2-guys-in-joe-dange/">Build Minecraft levels, select Team Fortress 2 guys in Joe Danger 2 PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Jun 2013 21:00:00 EST. <br />
While we were given <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/11/titanfall-will-have-dedicated-servers/">a quick description</a> of the cloud computing at work in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-one">Xbox One</a> version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/titanfall"><em>Titanfall</em></a>, we weren't able to get an in-depth answer. So we took to a back room at E3 and asked Respawn Entertainment's Fairfax "Mackey" McCandlish, lead designer on <em>Titanfall</em>, to elaborate.<br />
<br />
Essentially, cloud computing helps matchmaking, allowing dedicated servers to be spun up on a moment's notice to handle multiplayer matches and find you the most local option when searching for a game. McCandlish also answers other burning questions - like what exactly powers these titan mechs.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/titanfalls-structure-and-cloud-computing-on-xbox-one-explaine/">Titanfall's structure and 'cloud computing' on Xbox One explained</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Jun 2013 16:00:00 EST. Publisher Bethesda is "unhappy" with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prey-2"><i>Prey 2</i></a>'s current state, company vice president of PR and marketing Pete Hines said during an <a href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/18/bethesda-explains-prey-2-silence">interview</a> with IGN during E3.<br />
<br />
"We appreciate that folks are displeased that we haven't had any update or any info on <i>Prey 2</i>, but whatever your displeasure is, you can't even be remotely as unhappy about it as us," Hines said. "We spent years and millions of dollars and a ton of effort trying to help [developer] Human Head make a great <i>Prey 2</i> game. What we said <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/19/prey-2-delayed-beyond-2012-has-not-been-cancelled/">the last time we said anything</a> was that it's not up to our quality standards."<br />
<br />
Human Head is rumored to have encountered numerous setbacks during <i>Prey 2</i>'s development. Anonymous sources claimed that development <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/19/rumor-prey-2-development-suspended-since-november/">stalled</a> in late 2011, and rumors from last month indicated that <i>Dishonored</i> developer Arkane Austin might be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/31/rumor-prey-2-in-hands-of-dishonored-developer/">taking over</a> the troubled project.<br />
<br />
Hines' frank comments during IGN's interview suggest that <i>Prey 2</i> is either on the verge of cancellation or a major shift in development. "You don't just keep throwing money at something or going down a path that you're not happy about," Hines explained. "You have to make tough choices. Again, when we have more info on it, we'll be happy to talk about it. That's what I can say for now."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/prey-2-is-just-not-good-enough-bethesda-says/">Prey 2 is 'just not good enough,' Bethesda says</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Jun 2013 15:00:00 EST. Beneath our descriptions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/hotline-miami-2-wrong-number-unmasked-blood-drugs-feelings/">violence, twisted psyches and new features</a> within <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/hotline-miami-2"><em>Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number</em></a>, there lies relevant information about the game that you surely shouldn't miss: It's due out this year - Dennaton co-founder Denis Wedin told us at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/event/e3-2013">E3</a> that it would be "late 2013" - and it's coming for sure to PC, Mac and Linux via Steam.<br />
<br />
Dennaton is talking with console companies about potential releases, and regarding Vita specifically, Wedin said, "We hope so." <em>Wrong Number</em> is a darker, more emotional journey through the lives of multiple, playable characters as they rampage throughout the '90s, enacting their own brands of bloody justice. Wedin wouldn't divulge how many playable characters were in <em>Wrong Number</em>, but the demo featured the Pig Butcher and the Fans - and there will be a playable lady character in there, Wedin told us.<br />
<br />
Dennaton doesn't have any plans for multiplayer in <em>Wrong Number</em>, at least not at first. They may add something down the line, Wedin said, but the story in the main campaign is the priority.<br />
<br />
"We tried to give different storylines to the characters, tried to work with different emotions - not just being crazy or like a psychopath," Wedin said. "We tried to give them other backstories." <em>Wrong Number</em> tackles deep feelings and character motivations, but it isn't a complete break from its <em>Hotline Miami</em> roots, Wedin stressed:<br />
<br />
"We're super proud of how [<em>Hotline Miami</em>] works and people seem to like it a lot, so we're only going to add more enemies and more weapons and more and more. So if you love the feeling and the pace of the difficulty in the first game, it's going to be in the second one."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/hotline-miami-2-wrong-number-due-out-late-2013-for-pc-mac-l/">Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number due out 'late 2013' for PC, Mac, Linux</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Jun 2013 12:30:00 EST. The <em>Company of Heroes 2</em> open beta, originally scheduled to conclude yesterday, has been extended through this Sunday, June 23, until midnight Pacific. In this latest phase of testing, beta recruits will have access to new multiplayer maps in the rotation. Players will also receive double XP this weekend in auto match multiplayer modes.<br />
<br />
A general reminder that all that major wartime experience will transfer over to the full game if players pick up <em>CoH 2</em> within 60 days of launch (and use the same steam account as the beta). <em>Company of Heroes 2</em> storms the Stalingrad of retail next Tuesday, June 25.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/company-of-heroes-2-open-beta-extended-through-june-23/">Company of Heroes 2 open beta extended through June 23</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Jun 2013 11:30:00 EST. Those who opted into the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/steam">Steam</a> client beta may see some interesting language alluding to game sharing in the "steamui_english" file of the latest update. It's suggested that Steam users will be able to set a shared game library - when the original owner logs into the game, the game sharer gets a prompt to quit out.<br />
<br />
If you want to see the file for yourself, you'll need to be running the beta version of Steam - go into Steam settings and opt in, then restart the client. Then, you'll need to head into your public folder and open the "steamui_english" file in a text editor like Notepad. Final step: crack open a cold soda, sit back and feel good about being <em>a computer genius</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/rumor-steam-beta-update-file-suggests-game-sharing-is-coming/">Rumor: Steam beta update file suggests game sharing is coming</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Jun 2013 10:00:00 EST. Publisher 2K Games announced today that <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-bureau-xcom-declassified">The Bureau: XCOM Declassified</a></em> will have pre-order and post-launch downloadable content, which is about as shocking of a revelation as knowing Marmite will divide humanity into the two groups of the next great war.<br />
<br />
"We're excited that our stories will provide a new perspective on the war effort, much like how our critically acclaimed <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/minervas-den">Minvera's Den</a></em> DLC for <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/bioshock-2">BioShock 2</a></em> allowed us to present a unique perspective of Rapture," said Morgan Gray, development director at 2K Marin.<br />
<br />
The game's pre-order bonus is the "Codebreakers" side mission. In it, Special Agent Carter and his squad must reestablish contact a top-secret government communications facility, eliminate any threats and decrypt the employee's combined lunch order. There are no details about the post-launch DLC, but the first pack "will be available exclusively to Xbox 360 players."<br />

<br />
Unearthed from a crate thought lost to Hangar XCOM, this gameplay trailer shows how 2K Marin meshes real-time shooting with strategy in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-bureau-xcom-declassified"><em>The Bureau</em></a>. Time can be slowed down while players get tactical via a radial menu, from which they can command Special Agent Will Carter and his trusty squadmates.<br />
<br />
Also, it shows us that if you're going to see off an extraterrestrial invasion, you may as well do it dressed to the nines - Carter is the definition of dapper in that vid. <em>Independence Day</em> could only have been improved if Jeff Goldblum had boarded that spaceship in a tux.<br />
<br />
The fashion of alien warfare aside, <em>The Bureau: XCOM Declassified</em> touches down on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on August 20.<br />

<br />
Don't worry, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/hotline-miami-2"><em>Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number</em></a> is just as violent as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/hotline-miami"><em>Hotline Miami</em></a>.<br />
<br />
In fact, it has everything that made <em>Hotline Miami</em> so brilliantly bloody - and then it adds <em>more</em>. More characters, more emphasis on narrative, more enemies, more weapons, more underground electronica bands, more masks and more ladies. <em>Playable</em> ladies.<br />
<br />
In a demo at E3, one half of Dennaton Games, Denis Wedin, showed off two new, playable characters in <em>Wrong Number</em>: the Pig Butcher and the Fans. The Pig Butcher starred in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/video/8dcb2182">an early trailer</a> for <em>Hotline Miami</em>, and he's a throwback to the mass murderers of classic '90s slasher movies. That trailer begins with the disclaimer, "Based on true events," because it's for a horror<i> </i>film within the Hotline Miami universe, where these vigilante rampages truly did go down.<br />
<br />
The Fans really are <em>the fans</em>, Wedin said.<br />
<br />
"They symbolize the players that want <em>Hotline Miami 2</em> to be exactly like <em>Hotline Miami 1</em>," he said. "They collect masks and get phone calls - and that will be in there, but we don't want to make the same game one more time. We're trying to work with different storylines and what motivates the characters to actually go inside a building and start killing people."<br />
<br />
After the demo concludes, <em>Wrong Number </em>makes it clear that "more emotion" doesn't equate "less violence."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/hotline-miami-2-wrong-number-unmasked-blood-drugs-feelings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number unmasked: Blood, drugs, feelings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/hotline-miami-2-wrong-number-unmasked-blood-drugs-feelings/">Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number unmasked: Blood, drugs, feelings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Jun 2013 06:00:00 EST. Team2Bit's 2D brawler, <em>Fist Puncher,</em> is preparing to light up Steam on June 21. You can <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/238630/">pre-order</a> <em>Fist Puncher</em> right now for a buck off its $10 asking price.<br />
<br />
<em>Fist Puncher</em>, published by Adult Swim Games, stars black belt holder and neurosurgery practitioner Dr. Karate, who is out to save the city of Los Cruces from the evil grips of the Milkman. <em>Fist Puncher</em> was financed through <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kickstarter">Kickstarter</a> last April, and an alpha for the game was made available back in September.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/fist-puncher-cracking-down-on-steam-june-21/">Fist Puncher cracking down on Steam June 21</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 22:59:00 EST. <div>Writer and developer Tom Francis originally planned his game, <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/gunpoint">Gunpoint</a>,</em> as a showcase piece to earn him a job at a game development studio, but after <a href="http://www.pentadact.com/2013-06-18-gunpoint-recoups-development-costs-in-64-seconds/">seeing the success of the title so far</a> he says he doesn't need to join another studio.<br />
<br />
As you can see above, Francis hit his initial goal for the game from preorders alone, and sales have only gone up since then, to the point where Francis now says designing the game was "so commercially successful that I'll never need" to work for someone else.<br />
<br />
Since the only real monetary cost of the project was a $30 purchase of Game Maker 8 a few years ago, Francis says <em>Gunpoint</em> "recouped its development costs" in just one minute and four seconds. That's after three years of work, of course, but the point remains that <em>Gunpoint</em> was very successful indeed.<br />
<br />
The next priority, says Francis, will be to port <em>Gunpoint</em> to the newer Game Maker Studio, where it can then be released for Windows, Mac, and Linux. He's looking to hire someone for this task, so he can get moving on actual updates and another project eventually. It sounds like a tough job, essentially taking over the core game's development for other platforms. "But as the graphs above should suggest," says Francis, "I can pay."</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/gunpoint-success-allows-dev-to-become-independent-mac-and-linux/">Gunpoint success allows dev to become independent, Mac and Linux ports on the way</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 21:30:00 EST. A "bigger" and "beefier" version of 17-BIT's tactical strategy game, <i><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/skulls-of-the-shogun">Skulls of the Shogun</a>,</i> will hit Steam <a href="http://skullsoftheshogun.com/2013/06/17-bit-announces-skulls-of-the-shogun-bone-a-fide-edition-for-steam/">next month</a>, boasting six new maps, a multiplayer progression system, and a new four-chapter epilogue.<br />
<br />
<i>Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-a-Fide Edition</i> features all of the content found in the Xbox Live Arcade and Windows 8 versions of the game, including real-time multiplayer, hotseat support, and asynchronous multiplayer modes. The Steam version's exclusive chapter introduces a new playable protagonist, along with a new unit type equipped with teleportation spells.<br />
<br />
Buyers who <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/228960/">pre-purchase</a> <i>Bone-a-Fide Edition</i> will receive instant access to a beta version, which includes the first single-player campaign chapter and all 36 multiplayer maps.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/skulls-of-the-shogun-heads-to-steam-next-month-beta-available-n/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Skulls of the Shogun heads to Steam next month, beta available now</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/skulls-of-the-shogun-heads-to-steam-next-month-beta-available-n/">Skulls of the Shogun heads to Steam next month, beta available now</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.humblebundle.com/">Humble Bundle 6</a> lasts for two weeks and includes PC, Mac, Linux and Android versions of five games for the low, low price of "anything": <em>Aquaria, Fractal, Organ Trail: Director's Cut, Stealth Bastard Deluxe</em> and <em>Pulse</em>. <em>Pulse</em> is the outlier, available for Android only.<br />
<br />
Pay more than the average and snag <em>Frozen Synapse</em> and <em>Broken Sword: Director's Cut</em>. <em>Frozen Synapse </em>is in late beta on Android and has some known issues, and it's best played on tablets, the developer notes. All games come with their respective soundtracks, too.<br />
<br />
Currently the Humble Android Bundle's average is below $5, so act fast and get seven games for less than one single-digit piece of American money. Or, knowing that you can allocate your money among charity, the developers and Humble itself, you can pay the equivalent of a double-digit piece of money. Or triple-digit. All of these games would cost $95 separately, and it's safe to expect more additions before the sale ends in two weeks. Because that's how Humble Bundles roll.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/humble-bundle-6-adds-android-to-pc-lineup-aquaria-stealth-bast/">Humble Bundle 6 adds Android to PC lineup: Aquaria, Stealth Bastard</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 16:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shadowrun-returns"><em>Shadowrun Returns</em></a> is scheduled to release for PC and tablets on July 25, a slight delay from developer Harebrained Schemes' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/10/shadowrun-returns-confirmed-for-june-pre-order-arrivals-outline/">original release window</a>, which in itself was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/25/shadowrun-returns-pushed-back-to-may-june-2013/">already a delay</a>. Harebrained has also gone ahead and noted some <a href="http://harebrained-schemes.com/post/its-happening/">highlights</a> on its site from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/30/shadowrun-returns-concludes-kickstarter-at-1-8-million-in-contr/">backers</a> using the game's editing tools, which will ship with the game.<br />

Ampltude Studios' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/endless-space"><em>Endless Space</em></a> will launch its first premium expansion, <em>Disharmony</em>, on June 26 through Steam. Publisher Iceberg Interactive will also have an English retail version - key-only box with 16 page artbook - two days later. The expansion is priced at 10 in both $ and &euro; Earth currency forms.<br />
<br />
The <em>Disharmony</em> expansion will add a new faction ("The Harmony") to the 4X strategy game, as well as new ship types, targeting and redesigned weapon systems, better AI, along with an "enhanced invasion mechanics."<br />
<br />
<em>Endless Space </em>has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/11/endless-space-sells-300k-copies-adds-fourth-free-update/">sold over 300,000 copies</a> and the developer has been quite generous with free add-ons, having done four since last year's July launch.<br />

GOG.com, already home to hundreds of ridiculously cheap games, may be going a little bit crazy. The site is currently running a "#NoDRM" <a href="http://www.gog.com/">summer sale</a>, discounting over 500 games, with most of them down to $5 or less. Then we have the <em>really </em>nutty deals like <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/alan-wake"><em>Alan Wake</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/alan-wakes-american-nightmare"><em>Alan Wake's American Nightmare</em></a> for <a href="http://www.gog.com/promo/wide_awake_bundle">$4.48</a> and several other games, like <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/torchlight"><em>Torchlight</em></a>, for <a href="http://www.gog.com/gamecard/torchlight"><em>free</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/gog-com-summer-sale-free-torchlight-alan-wake-series-for-4-48/">GOG.com summer sale: Free Torchlight, Alan Wake series for $4.48 and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 13:00:00 EST. Steam let <a href="http://steamcommunity.com/games/765/announcements/detail/1604686826011817344">six games and one piece of software</a> through its Greenlight service last week during E3, granting each the ability to be distributed on the platform.<br />
<br />
The greenlit games were <em>Assetto Corsa</em> by Kunos Simulazioni, <em>DreadOut</em> by Digital Happiness, Benjamin Hill's <em>Ether One</em>, <em>GunZ 2: The Second Duel</em> by MAIET Games, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/stonehearth"><em>Stonehearth</em></a> by Radiant Entertainment and Ben Falcone's first-person survival horror game for Oculus Rift, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-forest">The Forest</a></em>. <em>Stonehearth</em>, a sandbox strategy game, recently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/02/crowdfund-bookie-may-26-june-1-stonehearth-tug-son-of-nor/">raised $751,920 on Kickstarter</a>. <em>Heaven Benchmark</em> by Unigine was the lone piece of software that community approval last week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/steam-greenlight-sneaks-out-six-more-games-one-more-app/">Steam Greenlight sneaks out six more games, one more app</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 12:30:00 EST. Up until now, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/saints-row-the-third"><em>Saints Row: The Third</em></a> modders have had to rely on community-created tools to make Volition's game even more lively. Jeff Thompson, Volition's studio director of programming, is currently preparing official engine tools to share with the mod community, prominent modder IdolNinja explains in a <a href="http://idolninja.com/blog/?p=1944">blog post</a>.<br />
<br />
In addition to <em>Saints Row: The Third</em> documentation, Thompson is preparing official <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/saints-row-2"><em>Saints Row 2</em></a> tools - something IdolNinja explains is a "test run" for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/saints-row-4"><em>Saints Row 4</em></a>. "In simple terms, the modding community will finally be able to create and offer new clothing, new vehicles, new guns, new NPCs, new missions, and even new world geometry which will greatly extend the life of the series and enhance the Saints Row games in ways we never even dared to dream of," IdolNinja explains.<br />

IdolNinja concludes that Thompson is expected to send something along this week, though there's no indication if that'll be the Volition mod tools or just the first steps in making that happen.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/volition-working-with-modders-will-release-official-saints-row/">Volition working with modders, will release official Saints Row tools</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 09:30:00 EST. In late March, Square Enix <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/26/square-enix-weak-sales-tomb-raider-hitman-absolution/">cited "weak sales"</a> of big console titles to explain its massive restructuring, which saw the dismissal of now-former President Yoichi Wada. Games such as <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/hitman-absolution">Hitman: Absolution</a></em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tomb-raider-2013"><em>Tomb Raider</em></a> were slated to reach over three million units in sales in fiscal 2013, arguably considered successful to other publishers.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Eidos Montreal's reboot of the long-running Thief series reportedly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/30/report-thief-reboot-suffered-multiple-setbacks/">suffered multiple setbacks</a> during its lengthy development cycle. When asked if he feels pressure to ship a critically-acclaimed game in light of the "disappointing" sales of other top-tier Square Enix games, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/thief-2014"><em>Thief</em></a> Producer Stefan Roy told Joystiq at E3 that the developer "cannot compromise with this one. We reinvented this franchise, I think we have a single shot."<br />
<br />
"We cannot say, 'oh sorry, we missed, so we are going to try again.' No, it doesn't work that way," he added. "So we cannot compromise, we must really give a good product, we must work closely with the marketing to make sure that the messaging around the game is really clear."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/">Thief (E3 2013)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/#5960175"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10893thief-e3-2013online061113ss01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/#5960176"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10894thief-e3-2013online061113ss02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/#5960177"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10895thief-e3-2013online061113ss03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/#5960178"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10896thief-e3-2013online061113ss04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/#5960179"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10897thief-e3-2013online061113ss05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/thief-producer-we-have-a-single-shot/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Thief producer: 'We have a single shot'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/thief-producer-we-have-a-single-shot/">Thief producer: 'We have a single shot'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 08:00:00 EST. The adorable picture above is letting you know that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/incredipede/"><em>Incredipede</em></a> on Linux is now absolutely free.<br />
<br />
<em>Incredipede</em> developer Colin Northway says he made the Linux version free "because Linux users are such strong supporters of indie games," and because he enjoys its open source philosophy. <em>Incredipede</em> is available for Linux <a href="http://www.incredipede.com/linux.html">right here</a>, and though it will run fine out of the gate Northway includes a list of tweaks to make it extra pretty.<br />
<br />
<em>Incredipede</em> is also on sale <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/230150/">on Steam</a> for $5 through June 24. This is all part of an "Open Source Appreciation Week," and 50 percent of sales directly through Northway's <a href="http://www.incredipede.com/buy.html">Humble Store hub</a> will benefit FlashDevelop and Box2D, two open source programs that he used to create <em>Incredipede</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/incredipedes-linux-version-goes-free/">Incredipede's Linux version goes free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 02:00:00 EST. One of our favorite talks from GDC was Brian Provinciano's session, in which the indie developer discussed bringing his game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/retro-city-rampage"><em>Retro City Rampage</em></a>, to just about every platform known to man. It's a valuable talk for many reasons, giving a clear picture of what it's like working with The Big Three[TM] and the types of hurdles a determined indie developer will inevitably hit.<br />
<br />
Provinciano's determination to port <em>Grand Theft Auto 3</em> to NES hardware escalated into <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/12/retro-city-rampage-review/">a love letter</a> to video games and pop culture. While Provinciano hasn't announced his next project yet, he says we should expect more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/05/expect-more-humorous-open-world-games-from-brian-provinciano/">humorous open-world games</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/watch-brian-provincianos-retro-city-rampage-talk-from-gdc/">Watch Brian Provinciano's Retro City Rampage talk from GDC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Jun 2013 23:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/surgeon-simulator-2013"><i>Surgeon Simulator 2013</i></a> will soon support the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/oculus-rift/">Oculus Rift</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Razer-Hydra/">Razer Hydra</a> peripherals, adding a new layer of immersion to Bossa Studios' PC medical malpractice sim.<br />
<br />
In <i>Surgeon Simulator 2013</i>, players attempt vital organ transplants from a first-person perspective using an intentionally awkward control scheme. It suffices to say that if you're squeamish, head-tracking and motion-sensing peripherals won't make the experience any less nauseating.<br />
<br />
The peripheral-enhanced version of <i>Surgeon Simulator 2013</i> will be playable at <a href="http://www.rezzed.com/">Rezzed 2013</a> in Birmingham on June 22 and 23. An update adding official support for the Oculus Rift and Razer Hydra will be released to the public "soon."

Bossa Studios puts meat on the bones: Surgeon Simulator 2013TM now supports cutting-edge peripherals, playable at Rezzed show this weekend<br />
<br />
London, 17 June 2013 - Bossa Studios announced today that Surgeon Simulator 2013 will soon support the hotly anticipated Oculus Rift[TM] and the Razer Hydra(R), taking surgery to the next level of mayhem and creating the most immersive operating theatre experience ever. In addition, the game will be playable with the hardware at the Rezzed Show at the NEC in Birmingham on June 22 and 23 2013.<br />
<br />
Released on Steam in April 2013 at &pound;6.99 (or equivalent), Surgeon Simulator 2013 has quickly become nothing short of a phenomenon. The original prototype - developed in just 48 hours at the 2013 Global Game Jam in January 13 - challenged players to complete a heart transplant using a combination of keyboard and mouse actions, armed only with an arsenal of clumsy and inappropriate tools and a hapless hand that was diabolical to control.<br />
<br />
Set to release soon and with development kits already with Kickstarter backers, the Oculus Rift allows players to step into game. It was one of the big hits at this year's E3 show in Los Angeles, impressing the audience with its stereoscopic 3D experience and a huge field of view.<br />

<br />
Double Fine is using a second (and already successful) Kickstarter to produce "<a href="http://joystiq.com/game/massive-chalice">Massive Chalice</a>," an ambitious turn-based strategy game that hinges on the lineage of your kingdom. Project lead Brad Muir is candid about the early delta between the game's promises - allowing you to produce and raise multiple generations of heroes in a war against demons - and the reality anticipated by those committed to its crowdfunding drive, which exists independently of that for <em>Broken Age</em>.<br />
<br />
"We're gonna mess up in public, and that's a little bit scary, but it's also like - I think it helps build trust too," Muir told me during E3 last week. "We're totally fallible, and we're gonna trip up, but we'll figure it out and we're gonna make the game the best game it can be."<br />
<br />
Muir also responded to fears from backers who have yet to see the fruition of Double Fine's previous Kickstarter project, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/broken-age"><em>Broken Age</em></a>, and expressed enthusiasm over developing a game with "the doors wide open on the studio."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/brad-muir-on-building-trust-with-double-fines-massive-chalice/">Brad Muir on building trust with Double Fine's Massive Chalice</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Jun 2013 19:05:00 EST. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/state-of-decay">State of Decay</a> </em>developer Undead Labs can't begin working on its follow-up game, an MMO called <em>Class4</em>, until it agrees with Microsoft on a series of terms about future technology, support and goals, Undead's community director Sanya Weathers told <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-17-state-of-decay-mmo-follow-up-class4-still-in-negotiations-with-microsoft">Eurogamer</a>.<br />
<br />
Microsoft owns the IP for <em>Class4</em>, following a deal that funded and developed <em>State of Decay</em>, Weathers said: "We cannot begin working on <em>Class4</em> without a greenlight from Microsoft ... and a mutually agreeable contract." Undead is still talking with Microsoft about the specifics of <em>Class4</em>.<br />
<br />
<em>State of Decay</em> was originally called <em>Class3</em>, and Undead viewed it as the first step toward that larger MMO project, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/undead-labs-class3-to-serve-as-precursor-for-mmo-focused-class/">Undead founder Jeff Strain told us</a> in 2011. "The minute-by-minute core of the game will all be there in <em>Class3</em>," Strain said. "The only thing it won't have is the massive player participation the sequel will have."<br />
<br />
Today, Weathers explained the negotiations with Microsoft regarding <em>Class4</em>. "We have to agree on where we think the technology is going to be in a few years (since the game will take a few years to develop); we have to agree that we have the same goals; and we have to agree on how we'll collectively run and support the final game," Weathers said.<br />
<br />
<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/state-of-decay-sells-over-half-a-million-copies-update-being-re/">State of Decay</a></em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/state-of-decay-sells-over-half-a-million-copies-update-being-re/"> is doing well</a> - since its launch on June 5, it's been crowned the fastest-selling original game on Xbox Live Arcade, ever, with 500,000 sales. We found <em>State of Decay</em>'s premise and vibe to be tense (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/07/state-of-decay-review/#review">in a mostly good way</a>), but we ran into some technical issues that Undead is currently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/state-of-decay-sells-over-half-a-million-copies-update-being-re/">having problems patching</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/state-of-decay-mmo-sequel-class4-in-limbo-at-microsoft/">State of Decay MMO sequel, Class4, in limbo at Microsoft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Jun 2013 18:00:00 EST. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dota-2">Dota 2</a> </em>is due to launch this summer in its full form throughout North America and Europe, Valve's VP of Marketing Doug Lombardi tells <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/dota-2-to-be-released-this-summer-6410348">Gamespot</a>. It will hit before this year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/26/dota-2s-the-international-tournament-will-return-august-7/">The International</a> championship, which runs August 7 - 11 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Washington. This is the third installment of <em>Dota 2</em>'s The International tournament, which offers a prize of $1 million for the <em>Dota 2</em> team that proves it's the best in the world.<br />
<br />
<em>Dota 2</em> entered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/23/dota-2-launch-moved-up-to-satisfy-seething-fans/">beta</a> in 2011, and nearly anyone can now purchase an <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/570/">early access key</a> and start playing immediately. The early access key costs $30 and adds some downloadable goodies, though <em>Dota 2</em> is a free-to-play game and it should live up to that descriptor when it goes live sometime before August.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/dota-2-to-launch-before-august-7-ahead-of-the-international/">Dota 2 to launch before August 7, ahead of The International</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Jun 2013 17:30:00 EST. Despite being "an important IP to EA," there is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/05/report-dead-space-4-canceled-after-poor-dead-space-3-sales/">no new <em>Dead Space</em> game</a> in development; instead, Visceral Games is working on something else right now. "Is that team working on a Dead Space game today? No they're not," EA executive vice president Patrick Soderlund told <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-14-dead-space-isnt-dead-but-no-ones-working-on-dead-space-4-right-now-ea-confirms">Eurogamer</a> at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2013">E3</a> last week.<br />
<br />
"They're working on something else very exciting. You have to think of it from that perspective. Is it better to put them on the fourth version of a game they've done three previous versions of before? Or is it better to put them on something new that they want to build, that they have passion for?" This isn't the end for <em>Dead Space</em>, however, as S&ouml;derlund reiterates that it's "a brand that is close to Electronic Arts' heart."<br />
<br />
"I am of the utmost opinion that we have to put the best possible games in the hands of our fans," S&ouml;derlund added. "How you get to a great game, the first thing you need is a great development team that have a passion for building what they're building. That's a simple parameter. Everything else follows. Money, time, everything else follows. It's less relevant. That's ultimately how you get success. It's as simple as that."<br />
<br />
<em>Dead Space 3</em>, which launched earlier this year, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/08/dead-space-3-sales-below-ea-expectation-pace-slower-than-sequel/">failed to meet EA's sales expectations</a> at launch and has had fewer sales than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space-2"><em>Dead Space 2</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/ea-dead-space-team-working-on-something-new-series-not-dead/">EA: Dead Space team working on something new, series not dead</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Jun 2013 10:00:00 EST. The problem with movies is that none of them take place in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/skyrim"><em>Skyrim</em></a>. This is <em>Skyrim at the Movies</em>, a take on the classic tale of Superman created by animation outfit Tyrannicon with Chris Hardwick playing the Man of Steel himself.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/superman-defends-tamriel-in-skyrim-at-the-movies/">Superman defends Tamriel in Skyrim at the Movies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Jun 2013 09:30:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/26/antichamber-exponentially-recouped-dev-costs/">Indie hit</a> <em>Antichamber</em> is already a mind-bending monster, but now add some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/oculus-rift">Oculus Rift</a> and you've got a "trapped on the holodeck" episode of <em>Star Trek: The Next Generation</em>. That's what computer science student <a href="https://twitter.com/Vaecon">Vaecon</a> has done in this VR conversion of the game.<br />
<br />
"It's interesting seeing that someone has gone ahead and done this, and I guess I really need to go and get it up and supported officially," said <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/antichamber"><em>Antichamber</em></a> developer Alexander Bruce when we pointed out the video to him.<br />
<br />
"I have an Oculus dev kit at home, but haven't yet run the game on it myself. I tried watching that video using the good old cross-eyed method, but it was pretty much the same as seeing the game normally. The lack of textures in the game makes it really difficult to see any real sense of depth."<br />
<br />
At least <em>Antichamber</em> looks like a more cerebral and calm Oculus experience than some of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/14/in-the-eve-vr-cockpit-ccps-space-dogfighting-demo-for-oculus-r/">whiplash inducing games</a> we've seen use the tech.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/antichamber-trips-the-oculus-rift/">Antichamber trips the Oculus Rift</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Jun 2013 09:00:00 EST. Dean Hall is focused on launching the PC version of his zombie-infested baby, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/day-z"><em>DayZ</em></a>, but he's talked with both Sony and Microsoft about the PS4 and Xbox One, too. Nothing's set in stone, but Hall "absolutely" likes Sony's approach to indies; he's turned off by Microsoft's ban on self-publishing and history of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/20/microsoft-responds-to-polytrons-fez-patch-claims/">charging thousands for game updates</a>.<br />
<br />
"Sony lets you self-publish and they don't make you pay for updates," Hall told <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-13-dean-hall-in-talks-to-bring-dayz-standalone-to-ps4">Eurogamer</a>. "Microsoft requires you to have a publisher. They have no digital distribution strategy and they require you to pay $10,000, or whatever it is, for updates."<br />
<br />
Hall <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/02/hall-dayz-console-port-discussed-with-sony-wait-and-see/">mentioned</a> potential console releases for <em>DayZ</em> back in April, and said he'd already met with Sony in particular. Sony was "obviously interested," Hall said, though he didn't mention next-gen at the time.<br />
<br />
Last week Hall said that once the PC version is good to go, a PS4 iteration is "definitely" something he'd look at. "But we have to do the PC version first," he said. "Once we get the alpha out, that's a good time for us to run it up on a [PS4] dev kit and see what happens."<br />
<br />
Hall isn't counting Xbox One completely out, but he still has some unanswered questions about developing for Microsoft's console: "I like what I saw on the Xbox in a lot of cases as well. I'm not shitting on them. I'm kind of hopeful that Microsoft has just forgot to talk about its indie support. Maybe I'm being a bit naive."<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/dean-hall-dayz-standalone-alpha-wont-launch-until-at-least-jun/">Last we heard</a>, the <em>DayZ</em> alpha was scheduled for June (that's this month) at the earliest.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/16/dayz-creator-considering-ps4-xbox-one-after-pc-has-an-early-fa/">DayZ creator considering PS4, Xbox One after PC, has an early favorite</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 16 Jun 2013 16:30:00 EST. <p><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rome-total-war"><em>Rome: Total War</em></a> is one of those games that a certain, very dedicated audience loves, while the rest of the gaming world is left outside admiring the craft but not quite understanding the dedication. The first <em>Rome: Total War</em> <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/rome-total-war">was critically acclaimed</a> and spawned a line of expansions and updates, and now strategy giants The Creative Assembly are returning to the game with a full sequel, not to mention switching around the title to <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/total-war-rome-2"><em>Total War: Rome 2</em></a>.<br />
<br />
What's different? "Just about everything, really," says lead battle designer Jamie Ferguson during an interview at E3 2013. "In the ten years since we did <em>Rome 1</em>, we've completely overhauled the game. The game engine isn't even the same."<br />
<br />
TCA has released a number of <em>Total War</em> sequels and spinoffs throughout periods of history, and updated the original title with new features and systems already. But even despite those improvements, Ferguson says the new game has even more updates and improvements. "When we call it <em>Rome 2</em>, it might be a bit of a misnomer in a way," he says. "We might call it <em>Rome Redux</em>, I guess. It's a completely reworked vision of the game."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/total-war-rome-2-e3-2013/">Total War: Rome 2 (E3 2013)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/total-war-rome-2-e3-2013/#5962220"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/28058twriie32013camelarchers_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/total-war-rome-2-e3-2013/#5962221"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/28059twriie32013camelcharge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/total-war-rome-2-e3-2013/#5962222"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/28060twriie32013capturepoint_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/total-war-rome-2-e3-2013/#5962223"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/28061twriie32013egyptianflagship_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/total-war-rome-2-e3-2013/#5962225"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/28062twriie32013nilenavalbattle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/16/total-war-rome-2-is-a-completely-reworked-vision-from-the-cre/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Total War: Rome 2 is a 'completely reworked vision' from The Creative Assembly</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/16/total-war-rome-2-is-a-completely-reworked-vision-from-the-cre/">Total War: Rome 2 is a 'completely reworked vision' from The Creative Assembly</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 16 Jun 2013 10:30:00 EST.
