GDC08 as retold through food
- Lunch: Tuesday, Feb 19
An Italian combo sandwich with salami, pepperoni, and (very chewy) proscuitto. The pasta salad was good and (blessedly) free of onions. The dessert bar, alas, remains unidentified, as we had no time to eat it. Protip: take the apple with you, as it makes a highly portable snack during a hectic trade show.
- Lunch: Wendsday, February 20
Turkey sandwich. The first half was eaten on the escalator on the way back to Joystiq's defacto HQ (we were late for an appointment, you see). Also present is a scoop of what seemed to be potato salad. Whatever it was, it was tasty. The cookie bar was unceremoniously split in half as we ran to make our appointment. A poor decision, as we soon discovered it was damned good. Again, note the ever present apple, injecting the appearance of health into the meal.
- Dinner: Wednesday, February 20
IN-N-OUT cheeseburger, fries, and soda from Gamerscore Blog's Meet-and-Eat.
- Breakfast: Thursday, February 21
The Microsoft blogger's breakfast, complete with ham, sweet potato hash, a bagel, (delicious) bacon, coffee, and orange juice. A stark contrast to the typical GDC breakfast of a bagel and nothing else.
- Breakfast: Thursday, February 21
Some of the food of which we didn't partake at the Microsoft blogger's breakfast.
- Breakfast: Thursday, February 21
Sweet potato hash and quiche at the Microsoft blogger's breakfast. Yes, quiche.
- Breakfast: Thursday, February 21
Mmmmmm ... Ham and Bacon.
- Lunch: Thursday, February 21
Cajun chicken sandwich. This one was probably the highlight of the GDC08 lunch menu. Again, served with delicious and onion free pasta salad. Oh, and the raspberry lemon bar? Heaven. Rectangular, gelatinous heaven.
- Not quite dinner: Thursday, February 21
Hot dogs from the Prototype party. Served on an actual hot dog cart.
- Not quite dinner: Thursday, February 21
Prototype-dog complete with dill relish and mustard. Note the upturned trashcan table it's resting upon.
- Dinner: Thursday, February 21
Ordered at the Grand Café during the Joystiq team dinner: Steak frites (the S is silent). After the parade of sandwiches and bagels of GDC, it doesn't get much better than this. Seriously, go to the Grand Café and get some truffle fries. They'll change your life.
- Dinner: Thursday, February 21
Oh wait, it does get better. Cream puffs and ice cream drizzled with the best chocolate sauce ever. You'll notice we ate a third of it before we remembered to take a picture.
- Lunch: Friday, February 22
Pastrami and cheese. A far cry from the steak frites we had the night before, but good enough as sandwiches go. The potato salad took a step down this time, thanks to the inclusion of onion, the bastard vegetable. The carrot cake, on the other hand, delicious.
- Dinner?: Friday, February 21
The last official meal of GDC08: a panini from the San Francisco airport. No apple, no side dish, no dessert. Suddenly we were struck with a newfound appreciation for the work that must go into feeding the masses at the convention. A big thanks to all the hard workers at the Moscone Center. We'll see you next year.
