Metal Gear REX

Metal Gear?! You knew?! Well, of course you did, because the game's frakking called Metal Gear Solid. It's the nuclear-equipped bipedal battle tank that serves as temptation for power hungry men and portent of global annihilation. This creaking, roaring beast of war serves not only as a vehicle for many of Snake's foes, but also game designer Hideo Kojima's anti-war message.

Special abilities: Metal Gear REX's main advancement lies in its magnetic rail gun, which allows it to launch nuclear warheads without detection. It can also step on pesky cybernetic ninjas as if they were bugs.

Weaknesses: If REX's radar dome is destroyed, its targeting ability becomes hampered, forcing the pilot to open the protected cockpit for a better view. A few Stinger missiles will make quick work of the exposed electronics.

Trivia: The second battle between Snake and Liquid occurs on top of the destroyed Metal Gear REX. As if falling off the edge during the scuffle wasn't enough of a danger, there's also a time bomb to worry about.
