May 4th 2011 2:22PM (Joystiq)-A GPU that surpasses that of the Xbox 360 and PS3. Graphics that "match" the aforementioned consoles won't cut it anymore, they're using technology that came out in 2005 and 2006. Nintendo needs to step up their game if they're going to future proof this thing.
-DDR4 Ram, I would say at least a gig.
-Native 1080p resolution, no 720p upscaling. HD has a high enough install base now for this to be a necessity, enough pussyfooting around.
-Which brings me to my next point, Blu-ray. If this is going to be the entertainment powerhouse we dream of, it needs to support Blu-ray. DVD is a dying format, nobody is going to want to use these in 5 years or so, it's time to take the plunge into the Blu.
-Solid State Drives are still too expensive to use in mainstream devices and keep the cost down, so I'd say go with the standard 2.5" HDDs that are used in the PS3, they're massive and inexpensive.
-A normal controller, you know, with two analog sticks. The Wii was cool for what it was, but it's controller is far from ergonomic when playing normal games. Put a screen on it if you want Nintendo, but this thing better conform to my hand like butter. I want to feel like Jesus when I'm playing games with this thing. Hardcore games like Call of Duty require a good controller, if Nintendo intends to court us hardcore gamers, then that's exactly what they need.
-A robust online experience. It's 2011 Nintendo, the internet is here to stay. Give us an online service comparable to Xbox Live, we want usernames, not friend codes. If you intend on this next console being for the hardcore crowd we want the ability to download extra content for games after it's release date, give us an amazing online marketplace, even incorporate all the previous virtual console titles and let us re-download them for free, that would win over a lot of gamers.
-A killer app on launch day. People that buy this new console are going to want to show it off to friends. Give us an amazing showcase title, a new Mario or Zelda game in glorious 1080p on DAY ONE!
