Liveblog from Nintendo's 2008 E3 Developer Roundtable

Jul 17th 2008 12:17AM (Joystiq)
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the "accelerometers" only measure a change in velocity, not the velocity itself. Sure it senses tilt and all that, but it doesn't actually know how fast you're moving in a direction, just how fast the change in how fast your moving it in a direction is. ie, say you're moving the wiimote uniformly .01 meters per second to the left, the accelerometer wouldn't pick up anything.

A post on wiifanboy notes the tech involved with this, I''m pretty sure this is the link

It's a pretty interesting read. Hope this helps.

E308: Wii Fanboy reacts to Nintendo's keynote [update]

Jul 16th 2008 9:09AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Thanks, it's good to know that at least somebody else on this earth isn't missing the fact we got those two things out of it. It almost seems like people are whining just to whine this year. Why is that even if people get some of the things they've been screaming for the past two years, they still complain about the things they weren't told about, even if we all already know they're coming anyway?

E308: Wii Fanboy reacts to Nintendo's keynote [update]

Jul 15th 2008 10:35PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
People just don't seem to be focusing on the fact that both 1:1 motion and voice chat are now options in games. Is that not pretty freaking big news?? Yes the show seemed underwhelming and if those two things weren't there, then yes it would have been a complete waste.

But really, what else is there that they could announce that we wouldn't have seen coming? We know some sort of storage solution is on the way, we just don't know when. We know that the major franchises are coming up, just not when, but they will be here. It's not like there never going to ever put another of the key franchises ever again. We know things are on the way, and this 1:1 will surely alter those.

Why are people so gosh darned intent on looking at this show as completely casual related and will in no way affect the games "we" usually purchase? And others above have stated that not even Brawl was announced in their keynote, so there's nothing to fear.

E308: Wii MotionPlus puts better control in your motion control

Jul 15th 2008 12:30AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
With a "big" first party title? I was thinking more along the lines of that Wii Conduct thing they had displayed. This seems like it would be perfect for that and we haven't heard anything about that in awhile. Could be wrong though.

Wii Warm Up: Would you buy Wii Sports?

May 24th 2008 11:21AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
That's a tough question. I think I would have bought it. I haven't played it that much, but only because I've had so much else to play, or have been busy with college or something like that. A price of $15 would have been fine with me.

Friday Video: Nunchuk camera hack

I seem to have mispoke, it's the remote you do that with in baseball, not the nunchuck. Oh well.

Yeah, the tilt functionality of the nunchuck is really better than it's given credit. It's not all just shake it. In Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2, you have to tilt it up to gain altitude. It's the 1-1 kind of thing, but I'm not sure of anything that does do that. This video demonstrates more of the tilt in the Wii Sports baseball kind of way, with the bat. I'm not sure if that helps or not.

This was an awesome video. There are so many possibilities with this kind of thing.

Joystiq live-ish at the U. of Illinois SSBB midnight launch

Mar 9th 2008 4:10PM (Joystiq)
I can't believe I missed that. I went there at about 12:20 to scope things out and didn't think there was a whole lot of room in the store and figured I'd just leave. My wii is actually back at home because I have a younger sibling and just wanted to see the game in action a week before I really could.

What a random place to choose to do this though. I guess U of I is a big school, but it just seems like there are bigger places to go for this.

It is definitely a big school for engineering though, I'm in mechanical engineering, so it wasn't surprising to see it so packed.
