PSA: LucasArts' Steam-distributed games don't work on ScummVM (but they could!)

Jul 9th 2009 7:34PM (Joystiq)
... although Plants vs. Zombies is, unfortunately, almost unplayably slow under the version of Crossover Games I have. It seems to want to do all the graphics in software for some reason.

(But otherwise, yay for Steam under Crossover Games!)

Chocolate-covered almonds. Yum.

Survey proposes Netflix service for Wii

It does seem a bit strange that they're not distributing this via WiiWare, but I'll take it whichever way. I'd get this the first day it comes out.

Welcome to Joystiq Nintendo!

I just looked. You have pages (and specific RSS feeds) for about fifty different categories, including WiiWare, Wii Warm Up, etc... but you didn't think to create a DS or Wii category and tag the old posts when you merged the sites??? (And I still can't see a justification for merging them at all, but I'll leave that one alone.)

(Actually, if you go to nintendo.joystiq.com/category/wii, you get one single post from 2006 about Red Steel. Weird. And yes, it has its own RSS feed.)

Come on guys. I even own both platforms but I don't want to read DS Fanboy. I want to read Wii Fanboy, and I don't mind a slightly convoluted feed name, but you didn't think things through when you combined the sites.

Animal Crossing fishing is cool; MySims fishing is even cooler. But personally I love sending fossils off in the mail...

Surprisingly rare and expensive GameCube games

Nov 21st 2008 11:25PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Cubivore? Gamestop will sell you that mail-order for $24.99, and a good number of local Gamestops near me have a copy (YMMV of course.)

They had Beyond Good & Evil on the list at $22 when Gamestop have mail-order ones and a bunch of local ones at $14.99 -- methinks it isn't as rare as these guys surmise!

Wii Warm Up: What's your set-up?

Nov 13th 2008 11:48AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
27" non-widescreen CRT TV that claims to be HD (to be fair, it does 1080i and 480p). Of course I'd like to replace it but we can't justify the expenditure, particularly as both our TiVos are SD. (If you like, you can replace the above with 'my wife won't let me' -- but $600 for a TiVo HD with lifetime and $800+ for a decent LCD says she's probably right.)

Wii and (as of yesterday, upconverting) DVD player both sitting on top of the entertainment center, connected by component. Two TiVos connected by composite. A pair of controllers on a Nyko charging stand and the other controllers, the nunchucks and the GameCube controller in a wicker basket. Most-used games (SMG, Wii Fit, Madagascar, Go Diego Go Safari Rescue, etc., and yes, I do have a four-year-old son) in a neat pile on the eye-level shelf in the entertainment center and the rest on a shelf at the other end of the room. Balance Board under the entertainment center.

It's quite compact but just don't look behind -- there's a veritable rabbit warren of cables back there!

Fanswag: MySims Kingdom

I guess I'd start collecting essences and building stuff ;) (And hope that MSK doesn't break my Wii's DVD drive like original MySims did.)

Joystiq hands-on: Boingz (WiiWare)

Oops, apparently a PS2 version _does_ exist, but isn't very good.

Joystiq hands-on: Boingz (WiiWare)

Oct 6th 2008 6:58PM (Joystiq)
Lemmings was created by a Scottish company called DMA Designs. They went on to make some game called Grand Theft Auto or something ;)

Psygnosis, the publisher, is now owned by Sony. (So it's slightly surprising that it wasn't reissued for PS2...)
