Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon review: Shoot, shoot, shoot, end

Aug 4th 2011 8:30AM (Joystiq)
@burnov Exactly.

IA is a Westernised TPS generica version of 2017 / GDF. It resembles the latter games only superficially and in the franchise's most shallow aspects like it moniker and the bugs... but even the latter are not in anywhere near the numbers of the earlier games NOR do that 'swarm', only spawn stupidly until a pointless objective is met.

Gaymores like the above posters who argue who-gives-a-shit elements of the game like "there are more than 2 CPU allies in some parts of the game" are moslty fanboys of anything Americanized (even if it's clearly to the detriment of the product) or simply those who have no idea what EDF is about.

The game was screwed up for two reasons primarily (*devs have confirmed this - see Gamefaqs message boards):
1) to accommodate ho hum online functionality
2) like you said, to make it more appealing to US 'junk food' gaymores.

The one positive aspect of all this is however, apparently, Insect Armageddon isn't a direct EDF sequel and an 'EDF 4' (developed by Sandlot) is on the cards! So if the turd IA has turned out as means the franchise (proper) will be rebooted, then maybe all's fair in quality niche gaming and shovelware cash-ins! =D

@Pipp

- You're blind.
- You're delusional.
- You're a midget, scrubby and lowbrow.
- Only a handful of the last weapons are pick-ups, the rest of the ho hum weapons are mere 'upgrades' to their attack power.
- Only TWO(2) AI replacements (when playing single player) are present; no more War of the Worlds, only Rambo: Space Marine 3-some.
- It may take YOU that long, but why play Easy or Hard if there's Inferno and weapons aren't difficulty dependant any more?
- 3 of the 4 classes have roundly be condemned as 'filler', with Tactical being the only useful class.
- Forced, 'US dumb' is not 'lost in translation' Ingrish dumb (i.e., it's not funny).
- Endings in game like this are irrelevant to the extreme, but that doesn't escape the fact those 3 endings are garbage... especially 2 of them.

You likely own all 3 Halos. 10/10 is more like your IQ over your mental age.

Unfortunately, the developers chose Americanizing the game for the derrr-dumb demographic and lagline play in lieu of making a 'proper' sequel to 2017.

- weedy explosions
- no more skyward careening bugs
- weak-looking bosses
- no more weapons drops
- far to few on-screen enemies
- no more bug swarms only a constant trickle
- AI buddies dumped for 2 co-op replacements
- health packs heal communally, as is Gen Wii's wont
- a paltry 15 levels and 3 difficulties Vs 70+/5 (GDF) and 50+/5 (2017)
- classes mostly pointless
- dialogue now REALLY dumb and unfunny
- game ends abruptly with no ending...

A 4/10 game, at best.

Takeuchi: Lost Planet 2 team 'working on' couch co-op

What, so a negligible graphical compromise isn't worth the at least having the option of split-screen functionality? o_0 I mean, you don't HAVE TO use the option if you're that much of a graphics whore. -_-

Some of us have REAL friends and want to SOCIALIZE while playing. Local multiplayer is integral for this type video gaming. On-line is amusing -- yes. But with lag, random adolescent scrubs, watered down multiplayer options/modes... it's a poor substitute for 'tangible' multiplayer.

I second that motion!

Local co-op sells games that normally wouldn't even attract a second glance. I'm surprised greedy devs don't see this fact and, well... whore it! Like they do everything else that they think has money-making potential. -_-

I think it's the atmosphere of the boss battles that seem SotC-y... even EDF 2047-y in a way. The creatures just seem so huge yet perfectly interactable. The one that can swallow you and lets you continue the battle in it's sigmoid colon looks hella fun! : D

It's because devs are lazy in a sense and just want to make the game LOOK great and rush it out asap. Split-screen would take a bit more production time, granted. But could still be done with relative ease with moderate resolution/draw distance sacrifices.

Laziness is the real reason. That's why gamers need to make it understood that no local co-op = no deal!

Capcom's printable Street Fighter IV training manual is awesome

Mar 3rd 2009 9:07AM (Joystiq)
The game's too n00b friendly to be considered a 'harcore fighter'. Capcom made the conscious decision that sales were more important than gameplay integrity. Love it or hate it, SFIV is what we're left with.

Wii this... PS3 that...360 this... oh my FREAKIN god! Talk about a trailing off topic! Who gives a rat's rectum whether or not the Wii can handle 'Euphoria' or 'DMM' (it won't/can't incidentally... just use your eyes!)
Why not concentrate on the REAL issue of import here- the progression of the Star Wars franchise...?

'Ooooh! I've got a degree as a loner keyboard jockey!' ... 'I was frigging myself over MS DOS before your mom was lactating... nerrrr!'
What a bunch of no-life, forum trolling, console fanboy n00bs!
Here's some salutary advice>>> Get a life your freakin zeros!
