TiVo asks customers about live iPad streaming

tivo really needs to stop worrying about "extras" and get basic functionality working with any sort of iptv/fiber. they are very quickly becoming obsolete.

i was somewhat shocked he is only seeing 1.8mb on att. does la not have hspa+???

here in texas (specifically austin, houston, dallas, san antonio) i can see real world speeds of 5-7mb consistently over 3g. in austin, its often closer to 8mb.

Calibrate your monitors for cheap

Jan 12th 2011 12:08PM (TUAW.com)
monitor calibration is something that has to be done again every few months. its not a "one time, and forget it" type thing.

now... if you are just a basic home user, and it doesnt matter... then why spend the money at all? just eyeball it. it doesnt need to be perfect. it only needs to look good to you.

if you are someone who DOES need color perfection (desktop publishing, design, etc) you absolutely have to some form of calibration equipment. ive dropped the cash for a spyder (highly recommend... works great on my mac pro) that also monitors ambient light to adjust color profiles accordingly.

this article is just about useless.

Dear Apple: Tear out your optical drives

Oct 28th 2010 11:58AM (TUAW.com)
Dear Michael Grothaus:

Please shut the hell up.

Love,

As others have stated... this isnt a "cutting edge idea"... its abandonment of something that (outside of what you may like to believe) the overwhelming majority of us use daily and absolutely require. i would LOVE to have a macbook air... but without any sort of included optical media drive... its useless to me (yes, i know i can get an external, but then all benefit of having such a small portable device flies right out the window, and actually becomes more of a pain.. as i would then have 2 pieces of equipment to lug around and keep track of).

if apple were to remove its optical drives from all laptop lines, i would be forced to do the unthinkable, and purchase an ibm or hp laptop next time i upgrade (which is soon... my 15" mbp is ready to be upgraded)

Microsoft joins Apple in stance against Blu-ray

as pax said.... streaming still doesnt cut it.

i am more than willing to sacrifice a little quality for some convenience though... but... i also want to watch hd videos at my lake house, or play the ps3/360 i have stashed out there for the evenings or rainy days. there is NO internet available out there (no satellite, no cable, no dsl).... not even dial up (no local numbers). for those instances (and the millions of people that still have very limited, or NO broadband access) physical media is an absolute necessity. someday, we will all have 100mbps fiber connections... but until that day happens, we're SOL.

Parallels Desktop 6 coming September 13, with better 3D support and Windows/Mac integration

look... i applaud virtual box for what it is, and can do... and its great for someone who rarely needs to use virtualization. however, it doesnt come ANYWHERE close to the same ballpark as parallels.

TUAW's Daily App: Plex

Aug 31st 2010 10:52AM (TUAW.com)
