Sep 14th 2009 10:08AM (Joystiq)And I am saying a console like the PS3 should've had more sales rather than just "slightly better".
Playstation 2 reached the 100 million sold milestone in just 5 years, the PS3 is not even halfway there in 3 years. Like anyone else, you would expect the PS3 to sell better, but it is even 6 million short of catching the 360. Blame the recession and call Playstation 2's sales a fluke, but you'd have to accept Sony squandered everything it had built up with the PS3.
It should've been able to crush 360 sales with its namebrand and recognition alone. The red-rings of death were just a freebie on top of it all, and Sony still couldn't pull it off.
Also, if you say PS3 sales were edging out 360 until it dropped the price-point, then I would say that price drop was a smart move for Microsoft. I mean, is it not what Sony is doing right now?
Japanese hardware sales, Aug. 31 - Sept. 6: Does not compute edition
Sep 13th 2009 11:23PM (Joystiq)No, that isn't so amazing. What is amazing is Sony's inability to sell a console that was not plagued with hardware troubles. Their inability to sell a console that had free multiplayer, better specs/hardware, and a brand name that was synonymous as the best selling console of all time.
Seriously, it got beat by the console that practically has 50% or higher failure rate. It better catch up or otherwise Sony better step out of the game.
And that isn't taking in the account of the console that is only as powerful as two Gamecubes.
