Microsoft looking to bring Surface home sooner

Feb 5th 2008 12:58PM (Engadget)
How cool would it be if you could make this sync with your mobile devices by just placing them on the table. OR EM field interface for things like external hard drives, memory or even addition processor modules. I'm feeling the whole Superman crystal thing coming on...in a only kind of joking sort of way...

It's not exactly rocket-surgery. but it is based off of valid brain science.

Scientists scold celebrities for promoting Brain Age

Jan 4th 2008 9:36AM (Joystiq)
Oh good grief. The activities in Brain Age mimic the same sorts of activites that IQ test questions are based off of. It's a simple theory. use the same neural pathways more often, and they become accustomed to being used and become faster in use (by increasing the baseline charge inside the neuron itself, the Na/k pumps in our neurons take care off the rest, just like it would if we lowered the neuron firing threshold by using some standard non-video game method to accomplish this. Like Crossword Puzzles or Scrabble. There is sound and fundamental neurophysiological principals being utilized in this claim.

the more you do something. The easier time you have doing it. All they need to sharpen this claim is to provide analogous training to teach people to recognize classes of puzzles and translate them across other puzzles - or even real life situations.

Today's most therapeutic video: Wii rehab

Jan 4th 2008 9:27AM (Joystiq)
I think that Nintendo ought to set up business accounts, specifically geared towards Hospitals so that they can get Wii consoles at cost. This way, they can justify ramping up production, get great PR and Hospitals can benefit from this at a reduced cost.

Smallville's Kristin Kreuk to play Chun Li in new Street Fighter flick

Dec 26th 2007 5:37PM (Joystiq)
It looks like the casting director is one of those people that would have passed up Bruce Lee for Carradine all over again. (glower) Maybe it's because there aren't enough asian people in this world to be able to cast one for this role. Maggie Q would have rocked in this part. Now if Kylie Minogue's younger sister get's Cami's part, this movie truly be able to walk in the footsteps of the first street fighter. (and not the sonny chiba one, either)

SCEA is 'very happy' with Ratchet & Clank sales

Nov 20th 2007 3:19PM (Joystiq)
wow. He has a point. 74k in sales is abysmal by any game released for any other system. You'll notice that he's not bagging the game. It is good. My guess is that it is a sign of things to come and the PS3 may round the bend and become a viable game system.

R&C is one of the most impressive games that I've seen to date. It feels like an interactive pixar movie. As a ps3 early adopter (I waited until 8 months after launch) I am glad that good product is finally coming out. In addition to this, multiplatform titles have finally reached parity as far as performance is concerned.

It's painfully true statements that F.R. made and continue to make that will get Sony's attention to actually support it's product and, in turn, support the consumers that believe in the product enough to own it...which, let's face it, Sony's got a bad track record of leaving us out to dry. Recently Sony's adjusted their marketing strategy and have made dev kit's more accessible.

Owning all 3 platforms takes me out of the fanboy mentality. I just don't want any of these purchases to be a waste of money. Something that, until now, the ps3 was looking more and more to be.

Kudo's to R&C. I look forward to more. Staring at a tech/spec sheet that tells me how superior my already upside down by $200 game machine that has nothing to do does little to nothing about the fact that, yes, for the last 6 months, it's been a shiny, heavy, dust collecting, folding, paperweight. But playing this game and seeing others makes all the difference.

As I see it, Sony needs to first win back the people that they have, to this point, turned thier backs on. The people that already own the system. That have seen 2 price cuts. That have had not had anything to show for thier early loyalty to a company that has made "cost-prohibitive" a part of thier long term sales strategy. This is a step. Continue to and increase supporting your Dev's Sony. Show me that I didn't make a mistake by buying your machine.

F.R., keep willing to be the guy that gets flamed for telling the obvious. In the long run, it helps everyone, because criticism creates improvement. Maybe some of this will get back to the right people, and they'll do something about the sad state of affairs that has placed an established company in the position to tout an obvious failure as a reason to take encouragement...and also...try the game out...it's pretty dope.
