Jason Bateman pulled out of LA Apple Store line

Jun 25th 2010 8:24PM (TUAW.com)
I was 103 in the non-preorder line, then some kid walks up to me and says "Want to be number 13?" I was very hesitant at first to give up my spot but followed the kid. Apparently he tried selling his spot for $100 so the Apple reps made him give it to someone else far back in the line. Yes. People were very, VERY angry; especially those who waited out since 7pm the night BEFORE. Still got my iPhone, an hour after they opened too! I don't think anyone should be this lucky.

Joyswag: Risk: Black Ops board game & Risk: Factions XBLA codes

Risk: Black Ops is beautiful and I promise to care for it, always, and as with any strategy based board game I will play it... strategically! (While being careful!)

iPhone 3GS mod ditches plastic cover in favor of titanium vestment (updated)

Feb 24th 2010 6:55AM (Engadget)
I have to say, I think Apple might be moving in this direction. They could've done the iPad with a completely plastic back, but because they're doing more unibody in their product line I think the iPhone is next for the switch to metal. The mental image I have of an iPhone sized iPad would look much better than the iPhone currently. It would need to be VERY thin to look right though, but a metal iPhone would stand up better regardless.

Verizon removes gloves, begins 'There's a map for that' anti-AT&T ad campaign (video)

Oct 5th 2009 11:58PM (Engadget)
I travel frequently, and I hear a lot of bad stuff about AT&T as I'm a computer tech, but in all honesty, I get 3G service in places the Verizon "AT&T Coverage Map" claims I don't. I had full bars 3G in Anchorage, AK which would make sense as AT&T acquired Dobson Communications a few years ago; the map shows Alaska completely blank of AT&T service, and yes I've had my phone do nothing in parts of CA. Regardless every provider has their up's and down's, I've used them all (well the major AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, Nextel), and not to sound like a fanboy, but I really do like the iPhone for my needs. I'm sure there are other phones on other providers that I would like, but in the end it all comes down to marketing. Every carrier on their own coverage map shows the entire country covered (for voice, data does vary). It's really up to the individual needs of the consumer. When the providers realize that we'll see better products and better marketing.

Wacom Bamboo multitouch pen tablet spotted by Mr. Blurrycam

Sep 15th 2009 10:34PM (Engadget)
I work at Staples and we JUST put up the display 4 days ago. There are a few different sizes, 3 that say "Touch" and 3 that say "Touch + Pen". Then there's the Intuous line, which doesn't have touch, just pen and a mouse. They start at $69.99-$149.99. I'll post blurry cam when I get the chance.

Florida school may trash 200 Macs to go PC-only

Aug 12th 2009 2:02PM (TUAW.com)
Haha, I tried to stop my town from doing a similar thing. I set aside $5000 to try and outbid the "recycling" company from trashing thousands, NOT hundreds, of Macs. There were 2nd and 3rd gen iMacs, at least 50 PowerMac G4's, and I'm going to say a dozen or so Dual-CPU G4's. The school also had to pay $10 per computer to have them "disposed" of. When I question them why, they had told me the town charter didn't allow the sale of the computers being school property. I saw about 50 pallets head out on trucks, of computers I KNOW worked. Computers I would've taken the time personally to wipe for the school if it had meant them trying to sell and reclaim some of the money used purchasing them. Just another irresponsible move on the school's part.
