Joystiq's video tour of Avatar Kinect

Jul 25th 2011 10:38PM (Joystiq)
@Doomedlion Mine said available when I first signed on, but I played Googly Eyes with my kids (my 1-year-old actually asks for it by name), and when I was done, it went back to "coming soon".

XBLA prices slowly rising, says Microsoft

Jul 24th 2011 5:46PM (Joystiq)
"Charla said that XBLA's pricing trends are 'a little bit of the opposite' of what one might normally see in an app-store ecosystem..."

That's because XBLA is the opposite of what one might normally consider a "free market". Prices are dictated by Microsoft (just ask Valve), prices don't decay with time (XBLA launch titles are still at original prices; disc-based launch titles can sometimes be found for less than those prices; also, note that things like the $30 DLC for Samurai Warriors hasn't changed even when you can get the game itself for $5), and they only go on sale when Microsoft decides they go on sale, and for how long.

WRUP: Planking into unemployment

@(Unverified) Taking pictures in the store is cause for termination? Really? I don't understand that at all.

Granted, if the policy is there and known, they're stupid for violating it; but I still don't understand why the policy is there in the first place.

BioWare: 13% of Mass Effect players use default hero, 18% play female Shepard

It would be interesting if they could include gamers' demographics. I'm curious how many players play a gender opposite their own. I know I'm not as comfortable playing as the opposite sex, personally.

New PS3 model drops HD Blu-ray display over component

@kgoo867 Again, I did not "blame" Sony Computer Entertainment specifically. Your strawman is invalid.

New PS3 model drops HD Blu-ray display over component

@Solais I didn't say SCEA, I (and the article) said "Sony", the company as a whole, which most certainly DID have a hand in it. My comment stands, despite your quibbling about what division may or may not have been involved.

New PS3 model drops HD Blu-ray display over component

Actually, since Sony was a major player in shoving blu-ray down our throats, it kind of *is* Sony's fault.

If my component-only HDTV hadn't crapped out on me a year ago (or, if I owned a PS3), I might care more. But unlike the commenters who believe "it doesn't affect me, so this news is useless," it's worth publicizing so people can double-check their connections before they freak out and figure Sony dropped blu-ray movie playback altogether.

The DRM evil is a whole separate discussion...

Dark Souls aiming for October 11 launch despite PSN problems

@jmc0b Since when is GameStop an authority on release dates?

Stringer issues apology for 'inconvenience and concern' caused by PSN breach

Thomas the Tank Engine is behind the hacks?

Oh wait, that's "confusion and delay", not "inconvenience and concern".

XBLM 'coming soon' schedule features a few sales, fewer surprises

Apr 27th 2011 9:16AM (Joystiq)
@This Little Man Says His Name Is :
And it would *still* be overpriced.

I bought the game *two years ago* for $6. The DLC is $30. Half-off would still be more than I paid for the actual game.

This is the difference between a free market and a corporate-controlled marketplace.
