Angry Birds crashed into 6.5 million devices on Christmas Day
Jan 4th 2012 11:41AM (Joystiq)"phenomenon." I really would like to know what else has made it big though. Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, that doodle platform game and sometimes Cut the Rope seems to be the only titles I ever hear about. If there are other titles what are they, and why haven't they gotten as much media coverage as the Birds?
Maybe I'm just in the minority, but it seems that retail presence goes a long way to make more than 1 or 2 smash hits relevant in a platform's ecosystem.

Jan 4th 2012 11:36AM (Joystiq)I remember people going "holy crap this AYBABTU thing is hilarious" for years. Think positive, the brand has some legs.
CD Projekt demands Witcher 2 pirates pay up, '100% sure' it's targeting properly
Dec 15th 2011 4:20PM (Joystiq)Has it really? Looked up the Hurt Locker case and saw that 90% of the cases have been dismissed, but that means 10% are still up for trial. It's not like these people are stupid, and you can bet that there's been progress in ways to differentiate between actual offenders and possible red herrings.
In any case it'd be great to see this make actual headway. The best thing you can do to pirates is to give them a good scare so most of the casual offenders go away.

Dec 6th 2011 4:27PM (Joystiq)it's the power of 60fps gaming. And the 3D "gimmick" which is also every bit a graphical enhancement, just something that doesn't show up on a screenshot. The sense of speed that comes from these two elements (along w/ the frantic gameplay) is incredible.
Super Mario 3D Land comes with new 3DS firmware
Nov 3rd 2011 12:12PM (Joystiq)Oops, must have skimmed the second one too quickly.
Nevertheless, not much of a news since flashcarts don't exist for 3DS and only the DS. Hope it stays that way so Robin Hoods of the world over actually learn to pay for goods.
Super Mario 3D Land comes with new 3DS firmware
Nov 3rd 2011 12:09PM (Joystiq)The 'sources' have absolutely nothing to say regarding any flashcart issues. Did you omit sources, Joystiq, or did you just fabricate news to incite more hits?
Sony predicting another year of losses, despite growing games sales
Nov 2nd 2011 5:41PM (Joystiq)the irony is that, because they have lots of sectors, they should be (and frequently DO) actively throwing out the bad apples on their plate. TV and gaming have been among the chief contender for years.
Much of sony's profits these days come from its financial/insurance arm, and though I haven't bothered to check myself the Japanese stocks apparently mirror the movement in that sector quite well. As a company they 'may not be in trouble,' but they stand to lose the least by not following up on their losses (and they haven't been able to for years).
Detoc: Rocksmith reviews show 'lack of enthusiasm' for innovation
Nov 1st 2011 12:32PM (Joystiq)It's a legitimate complaint, though. Deviate from the norm or do something that might appeal to the 'casual' market and suddenly reviewers and 'hardcore' gamers are all against you.
Of course, in this day and age when all the things that these 'professional journalists' shrug off are taking off like a rocketship, it's probably best to pander to the folks that still listen to you. Between the guaranteed high score of AAA games regardless of quality and the haphazard scores of EVERYTHING ELSE, I'm surprised there's still as many people that even bother.
Editorial: The broken, sputtering launch of Battlefield 3 online multiplayer
Oct 28th 2011 6:08PM (Joystiq)They couldn't make money if they made servers to accomodate the launch crowd though. You'll probably see 50% or greater dropoff within a week, and in a couple month's time ~10% of those initial week numbers (still a lot of people will be playing, just not All At The Same Time) actually regularly playing the game.
Understandable? Definitely. Forgivable? Hell no.
