PSN Thursday: Let's play Noby Noby Boy

Feb 19th 2009 10:24PM (Joystiq)
Sony should really do some quality control for PSN releases because I am incredibly dissapointed in Zuma. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the game Zuma, I just expected the PS3 version of it to look a little better then the iPod/iPhone version. Seriously, all PopCap did was port the game from their infinte versions and made one for the PSN. Even though it boasts 1080p resolution, its 4:3 ratio (with some graphic bars on the side) and its clear its upscaled from most likely a 480 resolution, starcase plauged 2D graphics and no effort put into visual effects just shows that PopCap is into whoring their games on as many platforms as they can get licensed on. They are not interested in innovating or improving their franchise games, they had a few good ideas 5 years ago and haven't done anything new since. Also at $9.99 this is a joke compared to a game like Flower which is both innovative and boasts supperior graphics and far better production quality to Zuma. Even Noby Noby at $4.99 is a better show for the PSN then Zuma.
Sony should be ashamed for bringing PopCap games to the PSN, and PopCap should be ashamed for plauging thier PS3 with their inferior and lackluster ports compared to the innovative exclusive titles the PSN has become renowned for.
I for one will never buy a PopCap game on the PSN until they put more then a frew hours of effort into porting the game to the PS3.

Hands-on with Wanted: Weapons of Fate

Feb 2nd 2009 11:50AM (Joystiq)
This movie was utter garbage and I am sure the game will suck too. I would have had more fun farting catnip in a tiger's pen then seeing that movie.

Uncharted 2 enemies have improved since you last met

Jan 14th 2009 4:24PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I loved uncharted, but I hope they change the game mechanics to prevent waves of the same looking pirates swarming you at regular intervals. I mean, it was a game where you clear an area, take 2 steps, and then another 20 minute gun fight broke out.

I would personally enjoy a little more platforming and a puzzler then a run and gun game. Not saying there can't be non stop on your seat action every now and then, but the original game did suffer from repetitive waves of enemies that became slightly ridiculous at times.

No plans for a FFXIII demo outside of Japan

Jan 12th 2009 1:59PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Chances are that no matter what Sony would have paid SE, SE has been dissing the PS3 since its release so it would not have mattered. Also I admire Sony for not throwing money around the way Microsoft is to steal exclusives and generate propaganda. Microsoft is ruining the game industry and Sony doesn't need to sink that low.

Personally, SE is coming off as one of the most arrogant, self-righteous game developers of all time (they make EA look docile and Valve look humble). They been going on about how Sony didn't position the PS3 as a game console, and then SE has been releasing movies and "other" company's games while they slowly develop another derivative FF title.

Personally I will buy FF13 used if the game ends up being any good. I have never finished any FF title because they get sooo boring and repetitive around the 20 hour mark and I don't want to give SE one red cent for the experience.

CES 09: Killzone 2 vids from the show floor

Jan 10th 2009 11:37PM (Joystiq Playstation)
This is where the men are separated from the boys. Xbox360 games are getting into their 2nd and 3rd generation of development and don't look this good, GoW 2 looks nowhere this good, this is a FIRST gen game from Guerilla for the PS3 and it looks amazing.

Game developers a starting to truly understand the power underneath the PS3 and are going to make more and more use of it over the next few years, and the only way Microsoft is going to compete a year or two from now is to come out with the Xbox720 cause I think the Xbox360 is being stretched to is maximum potential these days.

Red Bull Air Race now open worldwide

Jan 8th 2009 3:46PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I bet when I want to play in a race, it says the plane is occupied and I have to wait in line for my turn. They seriously have to get rid of only allowing one person to play an arcade game at a time. I don't fire up Home to play a game only to have to wait to play the game (although the arcade games suck in PSN so far).

Final Fantasy XIII's battle system detailed in Famitsu

Jan 8th 2009 3:44PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Hopefully they got rid of them stupid Quickenings, I never new how to actually perform them properly and they just seemed like some lame Quicktime event system gone wrong. I never put any license points into developing Quickenings and found every battle can be won without using it.

CES 2009: MTV Networks adding 2000 hours of programming to PS Store

Jan 8th 2009 2:14PM (Joystiq Playstation)
It's the Canadian government that prevents these services from showing up. Its the CRTC which holds this up in red tape and of course the CRTC is deeply entrenched the pockets of both Rogers and Bell. Rogers and Bell do not want people to get television through any other means then subscribing through Roger's or Bell's services. This is why the Apple iTunes store was so slow to get a video service for Canadians (and then its flooded with mostely made in Canada junk anyways), and why it will be years before we see anything appear on the PSN for Canadians.

What is unust about about this is that its movies are also available on the PSN too, and of course Rogers also rents movies on cable and in retail stores. But you can buy and rent movies from other places not monopilized by Rogers and yet online rental and sales of movies are blocked by Rogers' CRTC lapdogs.

I want Sony to flip the switch and enable the PSN store to sell and rent movies and shows to Canadians, and then deal with the CRTC in INTERNATIONAL trade court. I am sure any SANE court of law will find that CRTC blocking online movie and TV services is anti-competitive and monopolistic and we can end the CRTC blockade of "innovation" in Canada.

Sony, grow a pair and flip the switch.

Resident Evil 5 gets custom PS3 bundle

Wasting money buying multiple PS3's is not a hobby, the first step to curing yourself is to admit you have a problem.

Microsoft expects PS3 price cut soon, while Reeves reiterates profit mantra

Jan 6th 2009 11:11AM (Joystiq Playstation)
I do have to say that Sony dropped the ball this holiday season. Some form or price cut, even a temporary one during the holiday season, would have helped sales. It would have also given games like LBP and Resistance 2 an up because they would most likely be the first games people bought with a new system.

I can understand that Sony doesn't want to lose a lot of money on selling the PS3, but they are starting to fight an identity crisis where the PS3 is underperforming compared to two companies they used to dominate over, and the arrogance of assuming a strong line up of games will boost console sales is not working (2008 was an excellent year for PS3 games, yet the PS3 undersold this holiday).

That combined with the global recession, people are just not interested in spending $400+ for a game console, so a $50 price cut over the holidays would have been a big move.

What bugged me the most was on Boxing Day after Christmas seeing an Xbox360 Pro bundle with 4 games and a couple of movies selling for $259 CDN and right next to it a PS3 with only the Blu-ray remote bundled with it selling for the same $399 price. I ALMOST bought the Xbox360 just because the price was amazing.

Sony is supposed to have a smaller (cheaper to make) Cell processors, cheaper Blu-ray drives, and the fall of HDD prices and memory costs along with other cost savings features available for the PS3, its time they used them, drop the price, and get back into the game.
