Geek, nerd, or dork?
Dec 25th 2006 10:07PM (Joystiq)Nerds are the bookies (though the D and D makes sense) with the acne, Geeks are the obsessive people into alterna-culture.
DIY-erless Wii sensor bar
Nov 27th 2006 5:15AM (Joystiq)I'm sure this is gonna get answered before me, but from I have seen, I believe Excite Truck merely relies on the accelerometer within the Wii-mote to steer the truck as opposed to pointing the correct direction. Very similar to the Sixaxis and how it might control in a racing game.
Under the hood: game mechanics
Oct 25th 2006 4:45AM (Joystiq)That is actually an interesting point regarding games getting easier.
I don't know if you checked out the the "comments" at the bottom of the article, but one person brought up the question of, "is reading a book a game."
I find similar comparison to these "easy" games you mentioned. I also agree that some of the challenge of problem solving is being removed, and I would say that removing such elements are what actually drag games back into a primordial level of their potential.
Games seem to be on a reverse track, or maybe a plateau. They emphasize reverting gameplay back into a cinematic or story like presentation instead of utilizing the mediums obvious strengths to enhance the players experience.
Game over for Halo movie
Oct 20th 2006 6:58AM (Joystiq)Despite this, I still believe Blomkamp is/will be an amazing director. He seems to thrive on an extremely limited budget (at least what appears to be limited), and I would much rather watch something by him that is his own vision as opposed to someone elses concept that is interpreted by him.
Just make sure Neil Blomkamp doesnt get a budget over $25 dollars, and I am sure it will be amazing!

George Costanza spotted at Nintendo World Store?
Aug 29th 2006 9:52PM (Joystiq)It's difficult to land a gaming job even with formal education
Aug 29th 2006 9:50PM (Joystiq)As the industry grows and teams increase in size, their will be always be a greater need. Is this industry harder to get into than most other industries?
I think this might also be a case of the Blogosphere reverb chamber making an issue out of nothing. Of course its hard to get a job, you have to have talen! They dont hire anybody.
Rumor: Will Nintendo punk us with the Wii?
Aug 27th 2006 9:31PM (Joystiq)Here is what I think is realistic:
No, the Wii is not the enigma we all wish it was. But I DO feel that ATI's chip might specialize in something we dont know about. Nothing truly dramatic but maybe a subtle effect such as light rendering, shading or filters.
I doubt this would ever be revlealed if true. But I feel the chip enables at least some level of visual fidelity so a games appearence does not look entirely outdated the moment its released.

Aug 27th 2006 9:17PM (Joystiq)"Mac users aren't really into games"
Jun 2nd 2006 1:41PM (Joystiq)I really hope that one day very soon, Apple will come out with a killer 1st party game (think Nintendo), that will run fine on everyone's computer, and will be a Mac exclusive.
Imagine if Apple had a succesful franchise like Mario, Sonic, or Halo?
