GayGamer's E3 scrapbook series

Seriously, why does joystiq feel the need to post articles related to GayGamer? It's exploitative, unnecessary, and quite frankly irrelevant.

Rumor: "Avatars" are Microsoft's take on Mii's?

it's really too bad Microsoft couldn't do something different instead of doing yet another "me too" decision like it has in the past. It just smacks too much of playing "catch up", and that's really dumb, since they are already ahead.

you got it CONFUSEDgam3r. Watching people clamor for Obama is like watching the movie "The Invasion", where everyone becomes one-minded drones, all trying to shut down the opposition and seeking "change" through government where it is not government's role to interfere.

Valve: Left4Dead will come to PS3 if another dev wants to port it

May 6th 2008 6:45AM (Joystiq)
No, I don't think it's right when devs outright express hatred for a console. I think it's immature and it does not add to the discussion. I think Gabe Newell just feels upstaged because a company like EPIC has been so successful with their Unreal engine, whereas the Source engine has very few companies supporting it and propping it up. His one-sided comments directed at the PS3 are so transparent and he does not even have a rational reason to decry the system. If he was smart he would simply say "I run a small developer and cannot allocate the resources to put my games on the PS3" but instead he says he outright hates it. He comes off like an upset child who decides to take all the toys and leave because he's not getting his way.

Valve: Left4Dead will come to PS3 if another dev wants to port it

Known fact: Gabe Newell made himself a millionaire by working for Microsoft for 13 years.

Known fact: Gabe Newell openly stated that he hates the PS3, very early into it's lifecycle, and stated they should have just shut down production and told everyone sorry.

I'm sorry, but he just comes off as a jerk. He's only saying all that stuff because he's part of the Microsoft frat house.

PS3 Poll Police: Did you succumb to Rockstar's GTA IV "fix"?

May 4th 2008 10:15PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I have a 20gb PS3 and it was freezing up on me constantly a few days after I had bought the game. I ended up taking it back and exchanged it for the 360 version. Though the 360 version has not locked up at all, I do have to say the graphics on the PS3 were much nicer, cleaner, and the lighting was a sight to behold on the PS3. The 360 version just has that fuzzy look to it all the time and the colors are very muted. What really befuddled me about the 360 version is there is NO fullscreen mode for the TV programs (in your apartment). There are only 2 views for watching TV on the 360 and the screen is tiny. My guess is that they were able to put much higher resolution TV content on the PS3 version.

Portal rejected from XBLA

Gabe Newell, former Microsoft employee... explains alot.

From Wikipedia:

After dropping out of Harvard University[1] Newell spent thirteen years working for Microsoft Corporation, ultimately becoming a "Microsoft Millionaire." Newell has described himself as "producer on the first three releases of Windows".[2] Inspired by Michael Abrash, who left Microsoft to work on the Quake game at id Software, Newell and another Microsoft employee Mike Harrington left Microsoft to found Valve in 1996.[2] He and Harrington used their money to fund Valve through the development of Half-Life.

During production on Half-Life 2, he spent several months focusing on the Steam project.[3]

Gabe is notorious for expressing his displeasure for the Playstation 3 on numerous occasions, having stated that it is "a waste of everybody's time"[4] and "A disaster on many levels" and that "I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a do over. Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it"[5]. Because Valve did not want to handle the port of the The Orange Box from the Xbox 360/PC version to the Playstation 3 version, the project was given to EA, resulting in a sub-par Playstation 3 experience according to several previews.[6]

Metareview -- Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360, PS3)

Apr 27th 2008 2:17PM (Joystiq)
The 360 version does not have an install option, period. Are there any Xbox 360 games that have that option? No. Does it matter? No. Will Xbox Live crash when GTA IV comes out? We'll see. Will the "exclusive DLC" remain exclusive indefinitely? Who knows? Will PS3 get exclusive content at some point? Who knows?

Would Rockstar purposely handicap their game on one system or try to make one preferred over the other? That would be stupid, wouldn't it? Therefore I would surmise that PS3 is going to get some DLC love just like the 360 is, but like anyone, Rockstar would have been stupid to turn down $50 million. Honestly, the implication that the 360 NEEDS exclusive DLC to set it apart is a slap in the face of Rockstar if you ask me; and that's probably why Rockstar is going to show PS3 users some love with some eventual DLC.

Rumor: GTA IV DLC may include entirely new cities

Apr 21st 2008 12:15AM (Joystiq)
MS didn't pay for development costs, they paid for exclusivity. They are basically paying for an incentive, which may or may not be completely exclusive. The game belongs to Rockstar and if they want to make other DLC, even exclusive DLC for PS3, to ensure everyone has an incentive to buy the game across the board, they will make it.
