Taito's RayForce hits iOS for ... more than you'd expect

Jan 15th 2012 4:13AM (Joystiq)
If you're looking for retro iPhone bullet hell, Cave already has a bunch of their titles on the iPhone:

DoDonPachi Resurrection
Espgaluda II
DeathSmiles

GameStop details digital distribution storefront, XBLA games 'coming soon'

Nov 1st 2010 1:29AM (Joystiq)
@Faceless Troll Microsoft gets exposure to people who go to GameStop.com, instead of just xbox.com. You might go to their website to pick up a physical joystick on the cheap, see Plants vs Zombies XBLA on the front page, and decide to buy that.

There really isn't much advantage if you know you want to buy X, unless you're some sort of frequent purchaser. But if GameStop can make enough on impulse purchases, it makes sense for them to do it.

Rumor: Kinect beta testers can keep sensor, get free Kinect Adventures

Oct 30th 2010 4:20AM (Joystiq)
While that is pretty generous of them, what else would they do with the sensor? It's not like they can repackage them and sell them. It would probably cost them more to track down the users and get them shipped back than they could make selling them used.

Give it to the users! Increase the install base. The value (and cost) of each user's feedback was probably far, far greater anyway.

You Don't Know Jack coming January 25

Oct 29th 2010 3:39AM (Joystiq)
@silverwolf761 I was wondering how much of their back catalog would get pulled into this update. While an all-new You Don't Know Jack with all new questions would gladly be welcome, it has been a while since they've released anything at all. They do have 19 disks and a whole lot of netshows to pull from.

Team Fortress 2 Halloween special adds game's first boss

@KiDPANDA It's more like a SMORPGFPS.

Pardo: Blizzard moving towards day-and-date digital releases

Oct 27th 2010 10:42AM (Joystiq)
@hbi2k Because getting that impulse exposure on a Walmart shelf is a good way to get people into the game, who wouldn't otherwise think about it?

It is a bit silly, though. Don't get me started on paying for the game AND a monthly fee AND expansions.

Assassin's Creed 2 now on XBL Games on Demand, Brotherhood Avatar items added

Sep 29th 2010 12:32AM (Joystiq)
@ben linus As much as I love digital download titles, $40 is just plain dumb. I bought Assassin's Creed 2 on Monday for $20, and I wasn't even looking very hard.

Even a $35 dollar listing would indicate some sort of tip-of-the-hat to real-world pricing. List prices are hardly ever what something sells for. Valve knows this, and flexible prices with alluring sales have been hugely rewarding for them. I'm failing to see how selling a download-only version of a title for substantially more than the disk version goes for will fly.

Maybe if they offered pre-0 day online sales (Get it as soon as it is gold!), it might be worth buying. And certainly, in the early days of a title when retail is actually at MSRP, it might be more enticing. But a year late, and %50 overpriced is just bad.

Joyswag: Dead Rising 2 - Case Zero

In a modern skyscraper. Big enough, and there should be plenty of food, and plenty of ways to cut off lower-level access.

Verizon can almost serve GigE on existing FiOS platform, which means you'll soon be relocating

Aug 16th 2010 2:05PM (Engadget)
@rsramkee 1. Working from home. I can't tell you how nice it would be to have gigabit to a perforce server. 2. 1080p streaming. Right now it's fine, but it could be much better, especially with multiple streams in a house. 3. Offsite backup. It takes forever to upload currently. 4. Proper bi-directional video streaming. Why must video conferencing suck? 5. Something new. The "out of left field" killer app can't be developed until the tech is in the hands of at least some of the people.

GoG.com chops 30% off Phantasmagoria 1 and 2

Aug 14th 2010 11:43PM (Joystiq)
@(Unverified) Phantasmagoria is legendary for pushing social boundaries, not necessarily for good acting. It is one of the first horror video games, and a pet project of Roberta Williams (the designer behind King's Quest, and many many other well respected games of the time). If you're a curious type, it's worth a play for historical purposes. This is the sort of game that comes up in conversation amongst game geeks.

And let's be frank, it's a better use of 12 dollars than a ticket to Avatar.
