New iPad sales surpass three million over weekend
Mar 20th 2012 11:50AM (Joystiq)an addition to my previous post: i don't really use it for core gaming, as I use my Vita for that. But it does provide some occasional entertainment when I am away from home and without my console/my Vita is charging.
New iPad sales surpass three million over weekend
Mar 20th 2012 11:49AM (Joystiq)actually, it does much more than that. I don't upgrade every year or anything like that and wouldn't call myself an avid Apple fan. But, the utility of the device is beyond what everyone thinks, in terms of just a browser. Rather than pack up my 17" laptop when I travel, I take my iPad 2 (not buying a 3, nor did i have a 1). I have Pages, Keynote, and their Excel clone. I have been able to stay enrolled in online classes because my school has textbooks on iPad, a mobile app to access and participate in class, as well as the ability to type out my research papers and projects in the word processors. The .pdf functionality lets me store references for these projects as well. I have a small logitech bluetooth keyboard that helps me do my homework, as the onscreen is not as useful. I also use it to Skype with my wife, who is back in the US (I am overseas)
What i am saying is that there are more functions than simply being a net browser. As a constantly traveling military member, I am so happy to have something I can carry so easily that allows me to stay in school, video chat with loved ones, AND browse the web. That's just my two cents, not trying to persuade the masses.

Rumor: Valve working on 'Steam Box' console standard with customizable controller, biometrics
Mar 3rd 2012 1:41PM (Joystiq)Also, I realize the specs of this supposed machine are pretty good, but we all know that computers are constantly evolving. If this is to be Gabe's universal console, will it be able to keep up without getting Valve into the console manufacturing cycle that Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft are in? Or is this more of an attempt to try to get the big 3 to get onboard with a universal device? So many questions.
