Dec 14th 2008 1:18PM (Joystiq Playstation)The problem with LBP is the game is about creating and cooperation, something that's lost on the majority of gamers. Actually it's something lost on most, period. People like to destroy stuff and to face competition. Testosterone fueled games sell big, others don't. It's not just LBP.
To truly enjoy LBP as a revolutionary experience you need to dive into all aspects, including the create portion. The create portion is time consuming though because there is a lot to learn. It's not difficult, it just takes time. It takes a lot more time than shooting someone in the face, running over a hooker, smashing your car or watching your enemy explode into tiny bits.
We live in a desctructive society, evidence is all around us (popularity of certain titles helps prove this) and there really is no place for financially successfull games like LBP in current pop culture.

Dec 8th 2008 7:28PM (Joystiq Playstation)My prediction is PS3 sales in November will be up due to high profile releases in the last week of October and first week of November. While the PS3 won't enjoy the same kind of spike in sales the 360 is likely to have, it'll be a far cry from a double digit loss.
The fact these "analysts" are predicting such a huge drop in PS3 sales during the biggest release window of the year is absurd and an insult to intelligent people. There is one truth in the above article, it's dramatic; as dramatic as sales prediction can be anyway. It'll grab a lot more attention than a boring status quo or marginal gain, which are both more likely than a double digit loss.

Dec 8th 2008 1:59PM (Joystiq)Some people don't like destructive gameplay. GTA3 appealed to me because it really was the first go anywhere, do anything, type game. However the novelty and fun of that "new" found freedom wore off. I don't like any of the characters in GTA4 and I'm sort of done with the "haha, look I can run over a prostitute, blow cars up and cause mayhem throughout Liberty City" gameplay. Some people aren't, and I get that, but I am and that's how I can "not" like GTA4.
I'm sick of testosterone filled killing games. In addition one could easily argue that GTA4 is little more than a grpahically enhanced, muddy and muted version of GTA3. You do the exact same thing in a world less funny. And while that may appeal to many (which it obviously does) I hardly deem it worthy of GTY. *shrug*
