Golden Sun: Dark Dawn features a hyperlinked 'Encyclopedia'

Nov 18th 2010 6:38PM (Joystiq)
Wasn't this mentioned on Joystiq a long time ago? I don't know if it's been in one of your preview articles, but I do know that it was known even before the Japanese release. I could have sworn a read about it on Joystiq, too.

Oh well, regardless, it's a freaking excellent idea. On top of being incredibly convenient, it'll add even more time to the game for people like me, who read all of the scans in metroid prime, and all of the mini-articles in age of empires: age of kings, and all of the entries in Mass Effect 2, regardless of whether we knew it already or not, *just because it's there*.

@fulluphigh

I should clarify: X-play really sucks. So does G4. I just reaaaally hated Judgement Day.

@Nolan North

Aaaaand this comment lost anything resembling credibility when the author implied that Judgement Day wasn't absolutely horrendous, or somehow was less biased then the current most absolutely biased game-reviewing outlet out there.

Preview: Metroid: Other M

@Alexisonfire

I agree completely. I spent a huge amount of time connecting all the little bits of lore and scanned pieces in my head from the first Prime to really and truly build the world up to its epic scale.

That was actually my biggest complaint about the subsequent two prime games: a reduction in scannable materials.

No. You can redownload it from the website, after you've registered your account and a game key, but you still have to have bought the game.

The "Enterprise". Because, should I ever own a ship, I'm legally bound to name it the "Enterprise."

BioWare: No fix for Mass Effect 2 SDTV 'tiny text' issue

Feb 5th 2010 9:25PM (Joystiq)
Yeah, I'm sure you're right. But the fact remains, it makes the game more tedious to play. And other commenters have mentioned games where it has been almost unreadable. I just can't imagine why a developer would let it happen. It's not something that you can really miss when testing.

And yeah, I was just using the computer thing as an example, of not being able to upgrade technology and still have fun with the game. But yeah, I'm sure you've a point there.

BioWare: No fix for Mass Effect 2 SDTV 'tiny text' issue

For a lot of people, it's not a matter of getting the "Full experience" out of consoles. If Mass Effect is a game that can't be enjoyed without mind blowing HD graphics, then its not much of a game. A lot of people who like to play games on their PC's, but can't afford to buy a video card every few months to keep up with the technology and get the full effect from the newest games. But they can still enjoy the games, because they can turn the settings down to something their computer can handle.

Now, I'm playing ME2 on a laptop, and it runs fine, everything on (literally. The video settings for this game are lacking). It's not a top of the line game, graphically, from a PC standpoint at least. It looks amazing, but it's not the best.

So for the console versions of these people, the kids in highschool, the poor saps like me in college, or the people who just have limited funds and have to budget, dropping money on an HDTV, regardless of how "cheap" it is (skewed view of "cheap, imo), is not an option. The consoles support SD, and for a reason. It's a game console, not a pretty picture box. If the game can't be enjoyed on a standard definition set, it's lost it's fun factor to whatever percentage of Gamers still own an SDTV. As in, all those raving reviews amount to shit in the toilet.
